Oz (Finding Home Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 2,784 ratings

What happens when temporary becomes forever?

Oz Gallagher does not do relationships well. Bored and jobless after another disastrous hook up, he decides to leave London for a temporary job in the wilds of Cornwall. Surely managing a stately home on a country estate will be easier than navigating the detritus of his relationships at home. Six months there will alleviate a bit of his wanderlust and then he can come back to London as footloose and fancy free as the day he left it.

However, when he gets there he finds a house in danger of crumbling to the ground and a man who is completely unlike anyone he’s ever met. An earl belonging to a family whose roots go back hundreds of years,

Silas is the living embodiment of duty and sacrifice. Two things that Oz has never wanted. He's also warm and funny and he draws Oz to him like a magnet. Oz banks on the fact that they're from two very different worlds to stop himself falling for Silas. But what will he do when he realises that these differences are actually part of the pull to one another? Will falling in love be enough to make him stop moving at last and realise that he's finally home?

From bestselling author, Lily Morton, comes a romantic comedy about two very different men and one very dilapidated house.

This is the first book in the Finding Home series.

In a single moment, Oz loses his boyfriend and job when he catches his boyfriend/boss cheating on him. For anyone else, this might be a crushing blow that sends them spiraling, but for Oz, he merely brushes it off and moves on. With irreverent humor, and a lot of charm and charisma, Oz applies, interviews, and is hired as the House Manager for an aristocratic country estate. Silas is the newly single Earl who owns the country estate, and whom Oz knows he shouldn’t crush on – after all it doesn’t work out well for Oz when he dates his boss. But what power does reason have when the heart is involved? Despite their attempts to stay professional, Oz and Silas have a chemistry that sparks and sizzles. There’s no stopping their chemical reaction.

I absolutely loved this book. Oz is one of the most delightful and enjoyable characters I’ve had the pleasure of reading in while. He’s funny, charming, with a clever wit and a biting tongue. And Silas! He’s just as enjoyable and wonderful as Oz – loyal, strong, and just as fun as Oz. The two of them together made me laugh out loud. Plus their relationship was beautiful and romantic, with some incredibly steamy moments that had me swooning. Lily Morton is an extremely talented writer – the prose flowed smoothly and the dialogue was crisp and natural.

I listened the audiobook which was performed by Joel Leslie, one of my favorite narrators. Joel Leslie did a fantastic job with his performance in this book. First, his accents were on point (and so sexy), and, despite me being an American, I had absolutely no problem understanding him. He brought this book to life and I could hardly put it down and ended up finishing it in one day. I started in the morning and only reluctantly paused the audio when I absolutely had to. I already know this audiobook is going in my re-listen to pile. It’s definitely in my favorites list.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants a romantic comedy that makes their heart swoon and melt.

I wanted to give this five stars, because the characters are very good and the plot is very good and it made me happy. The setting and the dogs and all the humor are lovely, and if any of that appeals to you, you should read it. The reason it misses that last star is due to the author's habit of duplicating words and actions within a paragraph or two. It's frequent enough that I found it distracting, which detracted from my enjoyment. But I loved Oz, and I loved Silas, and as gooey as that epilogue is, I am happy I read it.

4.5 stars!! 🤩💕💕 Loved it!!! Ms Morton has done it again.. 😁 I'm still to find a book of hers that I don't like..., I just love her writing, her characters and how they fall in love. This one was no different; Silas (Henry's brother from Risk Taker) is living a pretty lonely life on a giant estate and despite being the Earl of the region; he is simple, down-to-earth and sweet natured. In this world arrives the snarky, sassy and delightfully funny Ozzy; who has been hired by Silas's friend/manager to build/remodel the old estate so that it can be opened for public viewing. Both Silas and Oz have been hurt in their past relationships; Silas's exes have always taken advantage of his position and power and Oz's modest background has been used to hurt and humiliate him many times. Understandably they are both hesitant to do anything about their mutual attraction but living in such close proximity as well as a friendly nudge from the ghost of an ancestor has them falling in love pretty soon.
The romantic dates, 😍scenic Cornwall, steamy sex,💘 adorable dog (Chewwy) and some cool characters all work together to give us an amazing love story. From the outside Oz and Silas seem very different from one another, but seeing them from the other's eyes; they couldn't be more perfect for one another. It is also pretty awesome to see Henry and Ivo going strong and up to their usual antics. 😉The epilogue is especially sweet with an awesome HEA. I hope we get to read Milo and Niall's story next. 😍

This book has humor, heart, and heat. First of all, Oz is awesome. He comes in a small package but he has a big presence. He rarely holds back, and his job interview for the manor is hilarious as well as his first interactions with Silas. Oz is confident yet vulnerable, snarky yet deeply caring and loyal to those in his inner circle, of which Silas would love to be a part.

He’s a gorgeous number and certainly catches Silas’ eye right away. They’ve both had a History with previous relationships and are not ready to fall in together, but come on, they can’t overcome their chemistry.

Silas is absolutely wonderful. He is everything anyone would be lucky to have in a partner. His biggest challenge has probably been his love of home in Cornwall, because it just isn’t for everyone. Oz comes on the scene and almost seamlessly meshes with not only the estate, but in Silas’ heart, too. It’s like Silas was waiting for Oz to come home.

Oz is OK spending this time with Silas, just knowing that this is temporary, since why on Earth would an Earl be with someone like him for the long term? A bit of fun and memories for now never hurt anyone, right? So he thinks, but Silas knows better.

These two are fantastic together, and I absolutely loved how they just took such care of each other. Not gonna lie, I may have teared up a little a few times, like when Oz takes Silas home for a visit with his Mum. He’s half dreading and expecting Silas’ reaction to be about what his previous paramours’ had been when visiting his Mum’s humble abode, but Silas surprises him yet again, and don’t get me started on another tender moment involving nail polish. Gah, I tell you, Gah. Loved these two.

Highly recommend. (Side note: Is it just me? Not a fan of the book cover).

This book was the perfect slow burn romance. You have sweet, kind, quirky men and beautiful scenic locations getting to know each other and overcoming their fears all to be together.
I took my time reading and savouring every detail. Lily Morton's characters are all so endearing and their love so silent and resilient yet exciting.
For those who've read the mixed messages series will be happy to reunite with Heny! I know I was. I love him so much!

Definitely recommend it to pure romance readers. This book covers all the bases.

For the record, I bought this book and I loved it. The characters were totally charming and had me laughing many times, especially Oz's interview and the driving lesson. I even loved Chewwy the dog. But "Oz" wasn't just funny. I had its tender, heartwarming and even sad moments.

I'm looking forward to reading "Milo", the second book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superbly funny Oz - highly recommended.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 8, 2018
Oz Gallagher has just found himself without a boyfriend, without a job and without a place to live. It wasn't his fault that his boss was a cheating creep. Still, onwards and upwards as they say and he carts himself off, black eyeliner, nail polish and all, to search for a new job. After giving a spectacularly off the wall interview he finds himself employed by Silas, the Earl of Ashworth, for a six month contract, managing his huge house in the wilds of Cornwall. Oz's preconceived notions of how an Earl should be, stuck up and entitled, go out the window pretty quickly as Silas basically opens his arms wide and welcomes Oz into the warmth of his circle. Oz is attracted to Silas, despite his reservations about getting close to his new boss, and Oz thinks he's just wishful thinking when Silas's warmth towards him looks like he cares for Oz - there must be a catch, mustn't there?

Silas has always been alone, no-one he gets close to, can cope with the wilds of Cornwall, well no-one he's had relationships with anyway. His home has always been more than a pile of stone to Silas, it's the heart of his family, his history and heritage. It breathes with him and he's part of it. Silas was lonely till he found Oz, now he has to find a way to keep him. Silas has never met anyone quite like Oz, he's so alive, a feisty, pocket rocket of a man wrapped up in a vibrant package and yes, there is most definitely a caring, soft centre to Oz.

Oz does not suffer fools gladly and sets to, sorting out the mess of renovations left by the previous manager at Ashworth House. The building contractor learned too late to beware of a certain smile on Oz's face, it usually means sacarstic and verbal cutting pain will follow. Oz also has some ideas up his tattooed sleeve to help Silas sort out the financial burdens that he inherited along with beautiful Ashworth House and its estate.

Oz is the first book in Lily Morton's new Finding Home series and is a standalone M/M romance with a happy ending, told from two points of view. It is also very hilarious, Oz is so funny and is so appreciated by Silas. Lily is my new go-to author for snark, humour, and brilliant, witty, hot M/M romance. Each of Lily's characters you get to know in her books, becomes your new favourite and leave delicate traces of themselves in your mind. Lily's descriptions of the beauty of Cornwall have me wanting to get there as soon as I can to wallow in the sights, smells and sounds of the sea and the land. I highly recommend Oz and all of Lily's books, especially the Mixed Messages series.
