BOOK FIVE IN THE KINGDOM OF DURUNDAL SERIES - A MOTH IN THE FLAMES.

A TALE OF SACRIFICE, LOVE, AND DEEPEST MAGIC . . .

The bonds and wards that protect the Dark Lord and his Disciples are slowly failing - but pockets of evil still lurk in the darkness, and Sansara knows from the Fates that she still has work to do.

Banished to Tarragon Island to hone her craft, Sansara is selected to protect the chosen one - and the challenge is intense. Facing dangers, isolation, and hidden magic, the struggle can be too much for a woman on her own; so when the mysterious Raoul is shipwrecked on her island, she is torn between their strong connection and the sense that something feels very wrong.

Betrayed by the Fates, pursued by her demons, and beset with a madness that plagues her fury, Sansara takes matters into her own hands.

However, the Fates are watching closely, because Sansara has the future of the kingdom within her grasp—but with everything against her, can she fulfil the prophecy?

Excerpt:

'Whatever you read now you must believe. I will tell you things that seem impossible and highly improbable. But remember that we live in a world where everything is decided by what we can see and what we touch. If we can't see it or we don't understand it, then we perceive that it doesn't exist. But it does exist, and what may seem impossible here, is in fact highly probable in another world.'

What readers are saying:

S.E. Turner has built an amazing world with her series "The Kingdom of Durundal", and this book didn't fail to disappoint. A Moth in the Flames captivated me from the beginning - when one of the first sentences states the dragons were watching Cornelius, how could it not!?
Cornelius is met by a beautiful human like being, who offers him a deal of sorts. He will help her father a daughter in order to fulfill a prophecy and in return, no man will ever kill him.
The daughter, Sansara, is the woman who results and will assist the prophesied child. When she is sixteen she is sent to live on an island alone to fulfill her destiny. This is where the story unfolds and keeps going, taking us on a magical ride reminiscent of Lewis or Tolkien.
I loved this book. The characters are interesting, well written, and magical without being completely over the top. They can be related to. The world itself comes complete with a map so we don't get lost, discombobulated or lose interest, particularly when the creatures, the adventures and the interaction is so marvellous.
So order this book today, and then order the whole series for the entire family and read it for a magical experience together!

HISTORY OF THE KINGDOM

There are none who can say with certain knowledge when the Kingdom of Durundal began, yet this has not stopped the dragons, the kings, the sorcerers and other wise-ones from seeking the answer. What we do know is that dragons ruled supreme and considered by many to be the Dawn of Time.

This was a time when Elves, Dragons, Humans and Forest Folk were all at peace and lived in harmony—but in time, something changed.

Power and Ambition.

The Fates stepped in with a prophecy; a prophecy that proclaimed a 'chosen one' would rule the kingdoms with knowledge and wisdom and bring peace to the realm. However, the Dark Lord in his rage and eternal damnation vowed he would do everything in his power to stop it.

And so it was—the Dark Lord became unstoppable as his Disciples of Death searched out the chosen one. Barbaric! Uncivilised! Numerous! It is said that the earth cried blood and the barren soil left behind bore no fruit. The dragons disappeared, the Elves retreated, the Forest Folk went underground. Hearts were broken, loved-ones were lost, thrones were burned, and the kingdoms were in turmoil. Many said that darkness would prevail and man would never be understanding of acceptance and remain beyond all evil.

Yet—there was hope. The Prophecy was beginning to unfold; and with it came the Age of Heroes.

Welcome to the Kingdom of Durundal.

Review

What can I say... I want more. This book has it all. The naivety of children, the hatred of men, the wrath of jealousy, the greatest love that we all seek, the magic of the universe and the tales of the mysterious. This book is written so well I found my heart racing with anger then fuelled with love. I found myself weeping with joy and could feel the warmth of the sun. I cried with deep pain when the main character Sansara lost part of herself. I was enveloped into a world that was beautiful and joyous. I was happy but also saddened when I reached the end. I want more. I want more of the magic, more of the love, more of the sapphire blue island. More of the sorceress. ★★★★★

This series goes from strength to strength becoming more enthralling with each book. A Moth in the flames is absolutely brilliant, keeping me captivated from beginning to end. The powerful descriptive scenes really pulled me in creating a real sense of being there. The story-line is both emotional and empowering, I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to reading some more from this talented author in the future. ★★★★★

The Kingdom of Durundal series is far more than the single genre of fantasy for one particular audience. Rather, it blends into a prestigious crossroads where fantasy meets reality, and the surreal meets the sublime. I wanted to write a series that everyone could read, and I'm happy to provide an exciting, epic story that a wide variety of ages will enjoy.

The magnificent Kingdom of Durundal ~

Series Information:

The Kingdom of Durundal is an award-winning epic 12-part fantasy/adventure/drama that boasts a wealth of researched history, mythology and folklore.

Book 1 is 'A Hare in the Wilderness' where the child of prophecy has been chosen by the Fates. Her task is to prove she is worthy of leading her people out of the darkness and into the light. The next 10 books follow the journey of those who cross her path - directly and indirectly.

The animals used in the titles of the first five books are totems; symbols of courage and strength, guides and talismans.

Books 6, 7, 8 introduce the Sorceress of the Sapphire and how the prophecy is finally fulfilled.

Books 9, 10, 11 expose the back story behind several of the key characters. Who they really are and what changed them; for the greater good . . . or for the worse.

The Prophecy is book 12 and a prequel to the series. This book details the origins of the prophecy amid the dawn of time - when dragons, dwarves and elves ruled the kingdoms and the Dark Lord vowed to plunge the kingdoms into eternal darkness and rule with fear.

Inspiration comes from my interest in the past; in ancient civilisations and dynasties; the kings, emperors, dictators, leaders and religious ambassadors. The Kingdom of Durundal is an epic 12-part-saga, steeped in layers of blood-feuds, warring deities, and at the centre of it all - the common people fighting their own battles in order to survive.

Books in the series are:

1) A Hare in the Wilderness

2) A Wolf in the Dark

3) A Leopard in the Mist

4) A Stag in the Shadows

5) A Moth in the Flames

6, 7, 8) Sorceress of the Sapphire parts 1,2,3

9) Severn

10) Sable

11) Sagitta

12/Prequel) The Prophecy

I had a specific reason for writing 12 books, as the number 12 carries religious and universal data in addition to mythological and magical symbolism. It represents perfection, completeness and holds a significant value in astrology. Notably, all my dragons in Sagitta ( Book 11) are named after the constellations.

When people read these books, I hope they enter a world that they will never want to leave behind - a story that, when retold, reveals even more than the first time around.

Epic Revelations & Resolutions Seal Durundal’s Fate!
Overview: Sansara, the daughter of a powerful sorceress, is the Chosen One. Banished to a secluded island to hone her craft, she finds the challenges intense, but her life becomes even more complicated when a mysterious stranger shipwrecks on her island. After receiving a sudden revelation, Sansara has the future of the entire kingdom on her shoulders, but her strong connection to Raoul my put everything in jeopardy. With highly descriptive passages that elicit poetic blissfulness, compelling and engaging characters, and surprising plot twists that will leave readers speechless, Author S.E. Turner pens an enchanting, exciting, enriching, and invigorating read in “A Moth in the Flames”, her fifth chapter in her epic Kingdom of Durundal Series. Through broadening the main plotline and picking up on the mythology of the Durundal series, Author Turner delights her fans and readers with the introduction of a set of enchanting yet potentially dangerous characters who all have direct ties to the kingdom’s throne. As these mythical and magical backstories emerge and blend together within the primary plotline, the entire novel series experiences epic revelations and resolutions that affect both royals and commoners. “A Moth in the Flames” is a riveting read that may be enjoyed as a stand-alone book. To understand the critical relationships in this novel and obtain the best overall view of the entire novel series, however, I recommend this novel be read sequentially within the series as the author intended. Fans of ancient historical fiction, adult fairytales, and gaslight fantasy will greatly appreciate this truly unforgettable read. I highly recommend this novel for ages 13 and up since it does contain some adult situations and moderate violence.

When the reader first meets Sansara, it quickly becomes evident that she is a powerful young woman with a destiny to fulfil, but they can not predict how she might achieve that mission, nor what her role will be in the resolvution of the mysteries and complications of earlier storylines.

The way in which the pieces of the puzzle fall into place and this instalment is seen to fit neatly into the broader narrative leaves readers who have followed the series as a whole with deep satisfaction. The conclusion of the book is well executed, and yet it does not feel like a complete ending: there is  a sense that there is more to come, and that there is a new generation of adventurers, warriors and leaders to come.

The fifth book in The Kingdom of Durundal fantasy series, 'A Moth In The Flames’ stands on its own as a very good fantasy story, full of mystery, adventure, magic and challenge. While first-time visitors to the Kingdom of Durundal will be able to infer the assumed knowledge needed to give this story its own integrity and resolution, returning readers will bring with them the deeper understandings and knowledge that will enable them to draw more meaning from the conversations and explanations between characters that reference the events and characters of the previous books in the series.

So, while readers of fantasy are sure to enjoy this book on its own, my recommendation would be to start with book one and enjoy the richness of the bigger story, so that Sansara’s story is enjoyed in its entirety.

I enjoyed this tale featuring Sansara, a young sorceress, as she lives alone on an island while she develops into a strong, powerful woman. However, I would suggest reading all the books in order. The second half of the book introduced me to characters that had me somewhat confused. Had I read the other books, I believe it would have been an easier read. The prose was absolutely gorgeous, full of wonderful sights, textures, and flavorful foods. The book was maybe a little too sweet for me as ended with the evil vanquished and happy outcomes for all. This book would make a great movie, either animated or live action. If you like fantasy that isn't cynical and doesn't have bad language and explicit scenes, you will like this book.

This series is absolutely fantastic. Every part enriches the world. Sansara is my new favorite and that's saying a lot with so many fantastic characters in all of the parts. I loved getting to know her, first when she was alone, watching as she grew into who she was and what it meant to be her and then when she isn't alone and then... I won't give spoilers but there is some truly beautiful and emotional writing here. As always the setting is vivid and lush and compliments the story. It had a great pace and answered as well as presented questions that kept me flipping and satisfied. I hope this kingdom continues to grow as I look forward to coming back for many visits.

Welcome my dearest Book Dragons to another Saturday’s Child. I know many of you are in the midst of holiday preparations and all the buzz and excitement that goes along with them, but allow yourself to sit a wee spell and relax over a bowl of hot punch and admire a most wonderful Gem. This Gem is oval in form, see how it shimmers and glows in the light, even the dimmest light allows it to cast off radiance from within. It bursts forth occasionally with a bright blue pulse. It’s magic is clearly great indeed. It doesn’t depend on what One can see or touch or taste, but rather it gathers it’s energy from what One believes can happen and what the world around us is capable of. It’s delightful! This is ‘A Moth in the Flames’ by Gem Maker S. E. Turner.
S.E. Turner has built an amazing world with her series “The Kingdom of Durundal”, and this book is actually the last, book five. I do so wish I had had the opportunity to read all five in order. This book captivated me from the beginning. When one of the first sentences states the dragons were watching Cornelius, how could it not!?
Cornelius is met by a beautiful human like being, who offers him a deal of sorts. He will help her father a daughter in order to fulfill a prophecy and in return, no man will ever kill him. Immortality in exchange for a night with a beautiful being? Parent’s please note, there was nothing graphic, nor untoward here.
The daughter,Sansara (isn’t that a beautiful name), is the child who results and will be the prophesied child. She is beautiful and gentle, with green eyes and dark hair. She loves the place where she lives with her mother and sisters. When she is sixteen she is sent to live on an island alone to fulfill her destiny. This is where the story unfolds and keeps going, taking us on a magical ride reminiscent of Lewis or Tolkien but on a less grand, but no less interesting scale.
I loved this book. The characters are interesting, well written, and magical without being completely over the top. They can be related to. The world itself comes complete with map so we don’t get lost, discombobulated or lose interest because there is too much jumping around and the creatures, adventures and interaction is marvelous.
I would not suggest this for children younger than 11 or 12 and when the kids are finished with it, sit right down with a jug of hot chocolate, or a pot of tea and settle in to read it yourself, just remember, it’s their Christmas or Hanukkah gift so you have to GIVE IT BACK…lol.. better yet.. order a copy for yourself as well.. order the whole set for the entire family, read it together! It is free on Kindle Unlimited right now and the paperback is very reasonably priced!

I've loved this series from start to finish. Each story is unique unto itself, but also intertwines with the others, just like our own lives are our unique story, but could not be told without telling the stories of others. The descriptions take your breath away with their loveliness, and the characters get your emotions boiling with hatred or love. You may think you know all their is to know about this kingdom, but you'll find a few more surprises in store for you in this final installment of this part of the story.

I love this quote that's repeated in the story. It says so much about life in general. You have to believe...
"But remember that we live in a world where everything is decided by what we can see and what we touch. If we can't see it or we don't understand it, then we perceive that it doesn't exist. But it does exist, and what may seem impossible here, is in fact highly probable in another world."

There as so many little aspects to enjoy about this book. The story continued coming to a favourable end, the journey and quest of Sansara, and the justice meted out to an old evil. For me, I loved how all the strings of the previous storylines get tied up and completed. We also finally get the real truth about the terrible circumstances that drive Eujena and Ajeya from their palace and home and I felt everything comes to a nice full circle. One thing that I also wanted to highlight, is how much I enjoyed the author's ability to vividly describe surroundings, clothes, etc in a beautifully descriptive way that really pulled me into the story. This is a quick read and I fully recommend it, however, do start with the first book in the series as this one alone will not do it justice.

I took a few days to read this book but that was not because it was a slow read. Just the opposite; I was so happy while reading it that I would stop myself after each chapter just to pace myself so it wouldn’t end too soon. It is incredibly sad in places, so much so that I cried buckets, but also I cheered with fire in my lungs on so many more occasions. Thoroughly recommended to all those who love magic, fantasy, dragons, and witches.
