5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece - The best collection of poetry I've ever read!
Reviewed in India on February 11, 2019
I know Priyanka Naik since 2015 when I read her debut book 'Twists of Fate'. I loved it and even recently I read her short story named 'The Awakening', which I really liked. So when I discovered that she had released her next book 'Potpourri', I didn't think twice before buying it, despite it being a collection of poetry, which is definitely not my preferred genre.

However, from the very first poetry itself, I was hooked. And by the time I finished the book, I was mesmerized. The wonderful wordplay, the depth of her vocabulary, and the stylish, subtle way of portraying emotions left me amazed, so much so that I was mentally uttering 'Wow' after literally every poem.

I saw that Priyanka included (in this collection) a couple of poems that won her an award in the prestigious Tata Lit Live Fest. No wonder she was awarded—she writes so beautifully. Actually, I don't need words. Let me give you a couple of examples of what kind of writing you'll find in the book. That will be enough.

    "I don’t want to be

    The moon in your sky

Or the sun in your firmament

    I want to be

    The black of your night

    The light of your day

    Inseparable identities

    Enveloping each other

    Until they become

    Recognisable

    In no other way"

    And this one:

    "Every now and then

    I recall

    How I survived the fall

    Gathering the ashes

    Of fractured dreams

    Smearing them on my face

    Like war paint

    I continue to fight

    Towards the light"

You get the drift. This is just a glimpse of the mastery that you will find in the book, and the longer ones, especially, will take your breath away.

I would urge everyone who is reading this review (regardless of whether you like poetry or not) to get hold of this masterpiece immediately. You will definitely not regret it.

I, as a writer and a honest reviewer, am not qualified to give this gem of a book anything less than 5 stars. And after buying this book, I plead you to kindly post a short review on Amazon/Goodreads. I am shocked and sad to find no reviews of this amazing book on both the platforms. So please help this amazing author and encourage her to write more. Thanks.
