- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2023I really like the view of the guards side of story.. I’ve been on the other side of this.. It’s true some guards just like treating cons like nothing.. It’s refreshing to see people treating people right..
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2023Very interesting and also very different. It was a fast read also. The part with the inmate cook, was pretty gross. Could never handle your job or not know if my husband's coming home. Will be reading your second set in the future.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2021The diary is very interesting and entertaining. I especially enjoyed learning about prison life and the different aspects of the officers duties. Also found the writing to be cogent and authentic. Would recommend this series to anyone who would like a first hand account of life inside a maximum security prison.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2021I thoroughly enjoyed these books because it was a true and factual trip by someone who seemed to enjoy his job, and explained some misconceptions.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2021A true to life revelation of what goes on behind those walls. You can almost expect what you read. Lots of repetition.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2021It is interesting reading. Not many people realize or understand what a dangerous job working in a jail or prison is. Thanks for the insight.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2021In my review of book one I likened it to a school report about what when did on vacation. On my first day of vacation I did this - on my second day of vacation I did that. That synopsis still holds for me.
Since my taste runs more to the blood, guts and horror variety I would recommend this series be read by the faint of heart as I found it to be more fitting in that category.
That being said, I am thinking about looking into Simon's other series hoping they are a little more, shall I say, involved.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2021I read all your prison stories, all 12 in 12 days, what a wake up call, really enjoyed, especially when you ended some books with "today was a good day'. Stay safe, keep writing, am praying for you and your family and a big thank you for all you do. From a fan in the USA.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fantastic read
It's not often I write reviews for the books I read but I had to for this. What a great read! I couldn't put it down. It's so well written with so many tales from the inside. Absolutely deserves 5 stars and I can't wait to get stuck in to the next 6 months!! A fellow DT addict as well ..all things serve the beam S King jr 😊

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Reading my own notebook
It was like reading my own notebook of 25+ years in the job. His gaol is obviously more modern than the heritage listed buildings of my Bathurst Gaol.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great books
I really enjoyed these prion diaries.
After watching a show called 60 days in, it shown the similarities between prisons.
It’s scary stuff & I do feel that guards/wardens do have their work cut out dealing with red tape etc.
The only gripe I have with these book was the end of every day ending with a good or bad day.
After a few pages it got annoying & I learnt to ignore it half way through the book.
Maybe on certain days it could have been necessary but not daily.
I look forward to Simon’s other work.
