Andy:
If my life was a movie, I would be the sidekick. Not an especially promising start when my plan is to finally let my best friend know I have a crush on him. No worries, though. I have a plan. I just need a complete makeover. Change everything about myself so that when Falcon returns from his summer vacation, he can finally see I’m the love of his life. I totally know what I’m doing here.Well, not really. If I knew what I was doing, I wouldn’t look like every nerd cliché wrapped into one awkward package. In short, I’m screwed. But then Law Anderson enters the picture…
Law:
It’s all very simple. I need somebody to tutor my hockey team, and Andy needs somebody to help him with his crush. Sounds like a match made in heaven.Only the more time I spend with Andy, the more I like this quirky guy who makes me laugh, and pretty soon I’m the one who’s tutoring Andy in way more than we initially agreed upon. It’s fine.I have it all under control. But as weeks pass and the chemistry between us turns explosive, I’m starting to think that I might be in way over my head with Andy.If only I could make Andy realize that he doesn’t need to change himself for love. If only I could make Andy see that he just needs to be with somebody who has considered him perfect all along…

About the author

Briar Prescott is a work in progress. She swears too much, doesn’t eat enough leafy greens and binge watches too much television. It’s okay, though. One of these days she'll get a hang of that adulting thing.
Probably.
Maybe.
She hopes.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2025Such a sweet, feel-good story with two amazing characters! Have seen this trope before, but Briar’s characters make it fresh and fun. Andy and Law are so cute together. And she even managed to make the rival turn out nicely so that character can stay a good guy.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2020Andy grew up as "an odd duck", according to his dad, who grew up to be a very, very strange man. I guess being accepted as a best friends by Falcon meant he never felt a need to change who he was. Until, of course, he figured he had to change in order to make Falcon fall in love with him. I figured out the real dynamic of Andy's feelings for Falcon 12% in, whereas he didn't realize himself until nearly the end of the book. That was about the most frustrating part of the entire plot: that even as he started developing feelings for someone else, Andy downright refused to give up on his end goal of getting Falcon. For the record, Falcon isn't even revealed to be gay until halfway through the book, so I wasn't sure if he was or if Andy was just hoping that he'd become "GFY" when Andy proved they were "perfect" for each other. Also, from the little bit that was revealed about Falcon, which did not include any background info, he wasn't even all that likeable. To be clear, Andy wasn't an all around sidekick, he was just Falcon's sidekick. He led his whole life that way.
Law was pretty likeable, though his parents were not. Andy's family was a bit strange but likeable. The book was fairly funny and well written, with very few editing mistakes. The ending/epilogue was great, although it tell nothing of Falcon. I'd read more by this writer.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2021I’m late to the party, but I loved Andy and Law!! This book wrapped me up with fuzzy feelings, some great laughs while also fanning myself through those sexy first times! Oh yes, you read that right, first times! It’s one of my favorites and it was done so well in their story. Law, an assistant hockey coach searched out Andy for his Physics Prowess to tutor his players. Unbeknownst to Law, Andy had a terrible fear of public speaking, but an obvious crush on his best friend. Andy agreed to tutor Law to pass the knowledge along, and in turn Law agreed to help Andy get his best friend Falcon to notice him. What developed was a wonderful friendship between Law and Andy. They had great chemistry and I loved their character connection. Law was absolutely adorable to Andy, and helped him see how truly amazing he was. Andy cracked me up! I found myself laughing out loud at parts and I adored him! I loved seeing their relationship develop and seeing each of them realize their feelings. This was a wonderful story, and I think these characters will stick with me for a long time!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2020Andy thought of himself as ordinary, the nerdy sidekick, sadly he does not like who he is. So he has come up with a plan so that his best friend, who he is secretly in love with, will notice him. And Project Hero is born. But apparently he needs help.
Law needs a tutor for his hockey team. And everyone he asks says that Andy is the guy he needs. So he spent the time to track him down but talking Andy into it is harder than he planned. Law is coming to enjoy their exchanges, the more time they spend together the more he likes the adorable quirky guy. Somehow he has to convince Andy he needs Law just as much as he does.
Andy finds himself trusting Law, it also surprises him that Law seems to enjoy his company. He even finds himself enjoying Law's company.
Law finds himself unsure of all the changes Andy is making. He like him and all his awkwardness. Then things get complicated and he is now the one tutoring Andy. Things heat up and feelings get involved. So now he just needs to convince him he doesn't need to change himself for love. He just needs someone who thinks he's been perfect all along.
Both are so clueless about falling for the other, and the chemistry is just explosive. What happens when plans change, when you no longer feel like the sidekick? All the awkward adorableness, sweet snarky humor, liking a person for who they really are, and just being yourself, makes this a must have read. So if you like jock/nerd, finding ones self, or a hot, sweet, humorous read, this is a definite one click. Can't wait to see what this new author has instore for us next. Do I recommend this book? Yes. Would I read it again? Yes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute quirky read
Cute, quirky physicists major and a hopeful assistant hockey coach that just click. The writing was well done, and the story kept me engaged start to finish. A cute comedic M/M read.

5.0 out of 5 stars oblivious
💕 I truly enjoyed this story. I love the awkward nerdy Andy and how he sees some things so clearly, and yet had no clue about others. Law is sweet and a big snuggly blanket. A lovely slow burn romance with little angst, and lots of smart comebacks, sarcasm and wild arm gestures 💕 sometimes love just creeps up on you so unexpectedly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very funny
That is a very fun book to read. Feelings are in there all along, of course, but it also made me laugh out loud, wich always is an amazing surprise with a book. I love Andy's character. Well, Law is good too, but Andy is something else entirely and it is real fun to follow his story.
So yeah, if you hesitate to read that book, just quit hesitating and dive in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars what a great story ! :)
I loved this book so much - not only well written, but the charas are so lovely and pure. It is so much fun to watch them interact, and to watch their feelings grow from a tentative friendship to a great friendship towards deeper feelings and love :))
The banter was absolutely fantastic ... and the whole plot is so real that you can feel whith the charas, and understand their problems and misunderstandings :)
This book is a 100% recommendation if you like romance, friends to lovers, banter and so much fun on the way to be entertained the whole book ! :))))
*hugsdeeply* and thanx so much for this wonderful book, bye, Blackie :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepare to laugh your guts out...
I haven't "laughed-cried" (if there exists such a word) in like forever over a book like this one made me. Oh gosh!! Where do I start. Briar Prescott has created a magic of a character in Andy. His internal monologues and verbal ramblings are so witty, sharp, humorous and endearing. I wish we got to see more of his parents cause they are both equally entertaining. Thank you Briar Prescott for making my day.
