There lived dragons, elves, witches and giants ...

Legend has it that the dragons and the giants helped build Durundal, using their great strength to lift and carry and wrestle the enormous blocks into place. These same legends also say that the elves contributed their magic to the city, with underground passages to the Elven World. Legend also has it that witches sought the seeds of the greatest dragons and spawned great heroes with the heart of a human and the strength of a beast. Durundal was the most magnificent kingdom back then. But then the Dark Lord began to destroy it all and rule with brutality and fear.

Before the lands were split by oceans or rule, there was deepest magic. But in the wrong hands magic is dangerous with unsurmountable power to corrupt.

The destruction of one of the richest and most beautiful cities in Durundal, and the enslavement of her people, shocks and enrages the Elven Queen. But when she goes missing and the Elven King is found slain, everyone knows that this is the work of the Dark Lord. For her presence hangs over him like an axe. A constant hindrance to his vile ambitions and now her days are numbered.

'We shall all be slaves unless we join together to end this threat,' declares the greatest of them: Brinadoon, the dragon king, Lord of all Durundal.

And so it was; the allies of over a thousand years plan a rescue mission to save their queen, save Durundal and save a legacy.

But this would be no ordinary army, this would be no ordinary battle, they would be dealing with an extraordinary evil which has the power to destroy them all.

HISTORY OF THE KINGDOM

There are none who can say with certain knowledge when the Kingdom of Durundal began, yet this has not stopped the dragons, the kings, the sorcerers and other wise-ones from seeking the answer. What we do know is that dragons ruled supreme and considered by many to be the Dawn of Time.

This was a time when Elves, Dragons, Humans and Forest Folk were all at peace and lived in harmony—but in time, something changed.

Power and Ambition.

The Fates stepped in with a prophecy; a prophecy that proclaimed a 'chosen one' would rule the kingdoms with knowledge and wisdom and bring peace to the realm. However, the Dark Lord in his rage and eternal damnation vowed he would do everything in his power to stop it.

And so it was—the Dark Lord became unstoppable as his Disciples of Death searched out the chosen one. Barbaric! Uncivilised! Numerous! It is said that the earth cried blood and the barren soil left behind bore no fruit. The dragons disappeared, the Elves retreated, the Forest Folk went underground. Hearts were broken, loved-ones were lost, thrones were burned, and the kingdoms were in turmoil. Many said that darkness would prevail and man would never be understanding of acceptance and remain beyond all evil.

Yet—there was hope. The Prophecy was beginning to unfold; and with it came the Age of Heroes.

The magnificent Kingdom of Durundal ~

Series Information:

The Kingdom of Durundal is an award-winning epic 12-part fantasy/adventure/drama that boasts a wealth of researched history, mythology and folklore.

Book 1 is 'A Hare in the Wilderness' where the child of prophecy has been chosen by the Fates. Her task is to prove she is worthy of leading her people out of the darkness and into the light. The next 10 books follow the journey of those who cross her path - directly and indirectly.

The animals used in the titles of the first five books are totems; symbols of courage and strength, guides and talismans.

Books 6, 7, 8 introduce the Sorceress of the Sapphire and how the prophecy is finally fulfilled.

Books 9, 10, 11 expose the back story behind several of the key characters. Who they really are and what changed them; for the greater good . . . or for the worse.

The Prophecy is book 12 and a prequel to the series. This book details the origins of the prophecy amid the dawn of time - when dragons, dwarves and elves ruled the kingdoms and the Dark Lord vowed to plunge the kingdoms into eternal darkness and rule with fear.

Inspiration comes from my interest in the past; in ancient civilisations and dynasties; the kings, emperors, dictators, leaders and religious ambassadors. The Kingdom of Durundal is an epic 12-part-saga, steeped in layers of blood-feuds, warring deities, and at the centre of it all - the common people fighting their own battles in order to survive.

I had a specific reason for writing 12 books, as the number 12 carries religious and universal data in addition to mythological and magical symbolism. It represents perfection, completeness and holds a significant value in astrology. Notably, all my dragons in Sagitta ( Book 11) are named after the constellations.

When people read these books, I hope they enter a world that they will never want to leave behind - a story that, when retold, reveals even more than the first time around.

    I ordered this book as soon as it became available for pre-ordering, but life got crazy and I finally read it last month. I always wondered why the author chose to save the beginning of the story - the prophecy that started it all - for the end, and now I know. I think, had this book been the first, it would have made little sense, and I might not have read on. But at the end of a series that I loved so much that I would read anything written by this author just to glean one more nugget of understanding of what transpired in Durundal, it was the perfect end, the backdrop for all the wonderful emotions I experienced as I read about Ajeya, Lyall, Namir, Sakia, and all the others. I tried to think of a favorite, but each one of them captured my heart, and the slow burn of suspense as each of the books was released, the growing understanding, has now been culminated in the perfect way. The dragons, the Elven Queen and King, and each of the heroes who sacrificed and heroically defended Durundal were appreciated all the more once the picture was complete. As always, the lush descriptions and amazing intertwining of events and characters made for an amazing journey. Thanks for hours of reading pleasure and the imparting of knowledge and legendary truths that are so needed today.

    Amazing! This brings the entire story line into perspective. I've read most of the books, but now I want to go back and read them all over again with this new knowledge dancing around in my head. I've loved this series since the first book. Each one, like this one, has powerful words, and words to enchant. I love reading each word as they all bring the scenery, characters, and story itself to life with their beauty. This one, in particular, is even better, as it has dragons and other fantasy characters in it.

    A great beginning to an epic fantasy adventure. It has everything you need: a faery queen, centaurs, minotaurs, magical shape-shifters, and evil sorcerers. There are plenty of additional adventures after The Prophecy for anyone wanting more.
