Protecting My Commitment: Sulfur Springs Book 1 Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 775 ratings

Dalton Andrews has seen it all. After spending a little over ten years with the Denver PD, he’d had enough and joined Wildlife Services, not expecting it to be such an isolating career. When his job takes him on assignment to Crooked Bend, he jumps at the chance to work with actual people again when the town’s sheriff needs to hire a few more deputies. While at his new boss’ wedding reception, he unexpectedly meets a blue-eyed architect that makes his brain go fuzzy.

Collin McKenzie has trust issues. After countless bad experiences, culminating in spending over a year hidden in the closet by his ex, he decided enough was enough. He not only broke up with him, but he moved to a different state to start fresh. He loves working for the Welsh brothers and living in Wyoming puts him closer to his family. He’s sworn off men, but while attending a wedding, he sees a dark-haired man that makes him catch his breath.

After spending an unforgettable night together, Collin mistakenly lumps Dalton in with his past experiences. Things are awkward between them, but the attraction is there and undeniable, so they agree to give it a try. But when Collin’s ex finds him in Wyoming and won’t take no for an answer, Dalton steps up and claims what he wants, Collin. But will he be able to protect the man he’s quickly falling hard for? And will Collin ever trust him enough to let him in?

Protecting My Commitment is the first book in the Sulfur Springs series. This is a Men of Crooked Bend spin off, but it isn’t a requirement that you read that series to enjoy this one. Familiar faces will be seen, but this series takes you off of the ranch and into the lives of those in Sulfur Springs. While each book focus’ on a different couple and may be read as a standalone, you will receive maximum enjoyment reading them in order. Each book contains sexually explicit material between two men and is intended for adults over 18.

The Men of Crooked Bend Series is my first published series and those Redfeather men will always have a special place in my heart. It was incredibly difficult to let those men go. It was originally supposed to be a trilogy but it ended up as an eleven-book series. In the Men of Crooked Bend series, you get to know the cowboys and other men of Wild Creek Ranch in Crooked Bend, Wyoming (a totally fictitious town). The series is set in the foothills of the Grand Teton Mountains, a place I fell in love with as a teenager.

Sulfur Springs is a closely related spin-off series to the Men of Crooked Bend. In it you leave Wild Creek Ranch and go to the little neighbor town of Sulfur Springs and meet the sexy men of the Sulfur Springs Fire Depart, the sheriff's department, as well as quite a few US Marshals. You see some familiar faces but you also meet some very new ones. It’s a complete series and has nine books to round off that world in a twenty-book world.

I love to read, it’s always been one of my favorite things to do since I can remember. When I started writing, I couldn't decide if I wanted to write contemporary or paranormal as I love both. I chose contemporary but still, paranormal was talking to me and those darn shifters kept saying, “tell our story, it’ll be fun.” So I did. And it was. That’s how I started what’s turned into Edison’s world. lol

It starts with the bears of the Honey Creek Den series. Honey Creek is another totally fictitious town set on Flathead Lake (a real place) in Montana. I've never been there, but hope to get there at some point. Honey Creek Den is finished with the planned six books. The Timber Valley Wolf Pack is the second series in that world and is also finished with six books. After the bears and wolves, I of course needed to give you Edison and his warlocks! The Warlocks of Amherst Series takes us away from the den and pack and we get to travel to Amherst, Massachusetts for some fun. The Vampires of the Beloved Gem follow Master Nikolai and his wayward vampires as they float up and down the Mississippi River in their riverboat casino. The Paranormal Council Enforcers is where we’ve ended up, and it is my current series. We’re meeting all kinds of enforcers who are busy dealing with evil while trying to win the affections of their fated mates.

When I'm not busy drinking coffee and writing about warlocks, vampires, wolves, or dragons (to name just a few), I like to read (who doesn't?). Because of my limited free time, I’m fond of short stories and novellas. I can be found on Amazon, Book Bub, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.

This is a great start of a new series. Taylor Rylan was a new author for me and I loved this story. It's both a steamy romance and action thriller with amazing characters and hot guys. If you've read the Men of Crooked Bend series, you are already familiar with most of the characters and the MCs. I believe you will get more out of this story if you've read the first couple of Crooked Bend stories first. That will give you a better understanding of the Croocked Bend and Sulfer Spring world and the background of the characters.

Sheriff Dalton meets someone & has one of the best nights of his life and thinks perhaps not just a one night stand? Then he heard Collin ranting & raving made Dalton best feet out of there. Starts a story on a humorous start. Collin literally had 7 brother ( 3 biological & 4 cousins that lost their parent that are like brothers). This is an absolutely incredible series about a pure unconditionally love. A beautiful expression of accept the other as is & not wanting to change anything about them. Supportive/vulnerability & acceptance/evolving and having hurdles that bring them together. It revolves around the three best friends Collin, Trust in and Hawke and the 7 brothers. Awesome seroes! Son of a Biscuit has the best coffee around and if you get there early enough you can have their delectable scones and coffee cake. Until you're drooling over the last baked cake held by the sexy architect you can't get out of your head. When he finally relents and you stop being a jerk, there's a chance you might be able to convince him to date you. But when his stalker ex starts causing trouble and your guy's skilled family are called in to help, priorities become clearer.

Protecting My Commitment is the first book in the Sulfur Springs series. This series seems to be a spin-off from the Men of Crooked Bend series, which I haven’t read, and although I can definitely tell that some of the characters have more history than is depicted in this book, I never felt confused or lost during the story.

Protecting my Commitment was just an average romance. The characters had some immature relationship issues which seemed a little flimsy to make such a huge plot point, especially in the beginning. I did like the drama with the stalker—it was over the top, but I enjoyed the drama and the protective streak that came out. This is one of those books that hits on different tropes and gives the reader a huge dose of fluff and sass which I found satisfying. I liked this book and it was easy to read and had me interested in the next book in the series.

The audiobook was narrated by Michael Dean who did a fantastic job like always. Michael voiced all the characters wonderfully and gave us a perfect performance. The audiobook production was nicely done and overall I liked the audiobook.

I liked the plot. The characters had flaws. The experience would have been better if I'd read the other books in which Collin's family were introduced.

    I'm planning on reading them!

Dalton and Collin are great characters and their story is filled with sweetness, funny moments, sexy times and a few bumpy patches on the road to their happily ever after. I enjoyed reading about these two men and the guys who surround them. Definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sulfur Spring, a Crooked Bend spin off

A return to the wonderful world of Crooked Bend. This time to Sulfur Springs.
    .
Taylor Rylan creates lovely main characters and wonderful side characters.
Everybody to fall in love, ok except for the villains.
    .
This time we meet Dalton and Collin. Both are not really able
to communicate reasonably with each other.
But the mutual attraction is strong.
It takes a long time to the to the HEA, but the way is worth it.
    .
The secondary characters, Collins brothers and a few dogs are absolutely adorable.
And also provide plenty of very funny situations.
We also meet the cherished characters from the Crooked Bend series again.
    .
I love the way Taylor Rylan develops her characters.
    An absolute "must read" book
