    This is NOT a STAND-ALONE! Just like the previous stories, this one will also end on a cliffhanger that does not involve the H/h. The great news is the next story is available to read right away through KU or for purchase.

    This is a very interactive series with a dynamic universe that continues to build with every new story. It has multiple reoccurring characters, consecutive timelines (with flashbacks), and overarching themes. I love how this has been like one intense action-packed, drama-filled, hits-keep-on-coming romance! I am already dreading the day when I am caught up with the series … oh well, I guess it just gives me an excuse to read the series again when the next new one is available.

    There are a few grammatical issues but they are minimal and primarily comprised of incorrect word choice / tense, typos, punctuation issues, missed words and an extra inserted word. I am mentioning these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.

    I do think there was a missed opportunity / explanation about Texas dislike of his given name. We learn about his family and what his father did to his mother, but nothing to indicate why he is vehemently opposed to being called Logan.

    We also learn a little more about Finley who was introduced several stories ago when she signed on to be the MC’s attorney. This story begins with Finley coming to the clubhouse seeking protection from a neo-nazi that she sent to prison when she worked for the DA’s office. Maxen should still be in prison but was granted release and now he was out for revenge for her prosecuting him.

    Texas, who has been teased about following Finley around like a lost puppy, is the first volunteer for her protection detail. It only makes sense, as he is one of the co-Sergeants At Arms (SAA) … right?! She makes him feel, and that is not something that Texas does with much frequency, so even though he knows this attraction, obsession, or whatever you want to call it, doesn’t have a shot at going anywhere, he just can’t not be there for her.

Finley is a driven and successful attorney that took a risk and helped the club when they needed it. She loves a great fight but suddenly finds herself a target by someone she put behind bars. Knowing she needs protection and help, she reaches out to the club. Of course, given all the help Finley has provided to the club, they agree and assign Texas to her detail. Now Texas and Finley have always had a comfort around each other but as they spend 24/7 together, they are finding it harder to ignore the spark that they share. For Texas, he has learned to mask his emotions but Finley seems to be the one person to break through the walls to not only ignite his passion but allow him to truly feel. As they work to handle the threat against Finley, we also get to spend time with the other club members that make up this unique family which adds to the drama and suspense since there is never just one threat coming at them. The journey that Finley takes where she has to let Texas in and must give up control in her life feels true. This duo learns how to help each other as they work to protect Finley from danger.

    Finlay and Texas have gradually been becoming closer in the series so this is wonderful to see them explore a relationship or to see if they could have one. As Fin thinks to herself, ‘Texas is worth the risk!’ he definitely is but she is a powerhouse herself too. A match made in heaven they are not, more like oil and water that shouldn’t mix, but only in the eyes of society being that she is a high-powered, successful attorney and he is a 1% biker.

    This fast-paced story is jam-packed with nail-biting action and intense drama that often has you on the edge of your seat, I loved every bit of it. I will say there were some scary moments and my anxiety really did rise through fear for loved characters. Such is the quality of the writing by this author, you truly feel like you know these characters and want only the best for them.

    The mystery behind who is after Finlay isn’t one for long because you find out quickly but what you don’t know is what his plans are, when he will strike next nor how. The suspense is enormous and well played out, not over-the-top but well-balanced. Then add in more twists and this unpredictable storyline gets even better.

    With an intriguing ending like that it only makes you want book 6, Deceptive, now! These books are addictive because they are so good.

    Texas and Finley really have their jobs set for them in this one. Always fighting the pull and the heat to each other. But it’s no use… not when you have an attraction as strong as these two. They’ve been fighting this pull for far too long!

    I really love how KE keeps the other characters so in tune with each story just building and building on the storyline and plot! The focus may be on Texas and Finley… but bringing a little more focus to Wraith and Priney, Zero and Cherry and Neon and Shiver! They all continue to grow as characters and a family!

    Finley Knight is a lawyer who takes on the worst of the worst when it comes to criminals. So when she took on Maxen Miller and won that was a good win, but Miller threatened her as he was taken out of the courtroom. Now the worst has happened his conviction has been overturned and she needs protection.

    The members of Houston Defiance MC are there for Finley who is their club lawyer; so there is no problem stepping up to provide protection. Texas and Phantom have volunteered to give her the 24-hour protection she needs. Of course there is a reason Texas stepped up, he is interested in her, but he also feels he isn’t worthy enough to move on that interest.

    The club may be quiet now, but one never knows what will happen!

    These men have quite a sense of humor, especially when it comes to those who are now married and when they find out about Texas’ interest he gets some good ribbing. They are also a group that are going through change, not bad change, definitely some good change but it will take time to accept the change.

    Author K.E. Osborn gives readers light moments, but when the action begins it is non-stop and the members of Houston Defiance along with the visitors from Chicago Defiance step up and take care of business.

    This book moved, through good days and bad days and I was surprised when the book ended as time had flown quickly. Although I haven’t read the entire series I didn’t feel I was missing out on anything coming in at Book 5 but as always you might want to start off with book 1 of the Houston Defiance series.
