The Puckable Playbook: A Standalone Hockey Romance (Warner University Bulldogs Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 552 ratings

From USA TODAY Bestselling Author E. M. Moore comes a delightfully endearing hockey romance between an awkward wallflower and her perfect, hockey-playing "dating coach" who become mismatched roommates. A touch of humor, spice, and scenes that will have you swooning all await you in The Puckable Playbook.

When college journalist, Lenore, finds herself trapped rooming with a hockey player, she’s anything but thrilled. After all, Len despises athletes—too cocky, too entitled, and definitely not included in her long-term goals. With a lengthy list of ex-roommates, however, she doesn’t exactly have a choice.

Coming off a bad breakup with his new roomie’s best friend, Zaiah isn’t exactly happy either, but it’s better than the alternative. He’s signed all of her stupid contracts (No puck bunnies? No problem.), and is hoping to finish out his senior year in peace until…

He notices Len has a little crush on her editor, and before he knows it, he’s agreeing to be her dating coach.

Their goal: Make this wallflower more puckable.

The problem: He may have just made her into
his perfect girl, and now he has to stand by as she uses her new moves on someone who definitely doesn’t deserve her.

Can Zaiah turn the athlete-hating word princess into a hockey lover? Or will old fears and prejudices keep them both from scoring the ultimate goal?

The Puckable Playbook is an m/f hockey romance standalone within the Warner universe!

Swoon worthy!
4.5 Stars. Tropes/themes for this book: ex best friend's ex boyfriend, hockey x writer, college romance, supportive family, she's all that vibes (slight), roommates, forced proximity, dating coach, relatable, understanding guy, she's learning how to be herself. I really enjoyed Len and Zaiah's story. She was betrayed by her friend and was gaslighted so it took awhile for her to speak up for herself and others. Zaiah went through the same situation basically with the same person. They're pushed together as roommates and she asks him to be her dating coach so she can get this guy she has been crushing on. I think we all basically know how it goes from there. I loved their story and I loved his family. I will definitely be reading more by E.M. Moore.

Loved the way the two characters learn to believe in themselves, fight for their dreams, all while falling in love!

"Who doesn’t want to be seen? Who doesn’t want all the little parts of them to be bare to the world and accepted?" This, in essence, is half of what this story is about; feeling seen by those you love. The other half is about dreaming large, believing in yourself, and finding someone who will encourage you and lift you up while you chase your dreams.

I was a little surprised when I saw the next Bulldogs book would be a hockey romance since we haven't seen any hockey yet in this series, but I was so pleasantly surprised by Len, Zaiah, and the whole Hockey crew. It was refreshing to read a hockey romance where not every player is headed to the NHL because, let's face it, that's not the reality for the majority of collegiate hockey players in this country. I also appreciated the journey for Zaiah to keep playing; oftentimes, we don't hear about the AHL option many players take, and again, it was refreshing to see this different take. Len had her own development as well, of course, and seeing her come into her own, embracing her independence and learning her worth gave me such the warm fuzzies, so to speak, as so many women struggle with this, and it's always wonderful to see yourself on the pages of a book.

Of course, the main reason we're all here is the love story of Len and Zaiah. They were just too cute not to love. The fact that he called her "sweetie" was enough to melt any cold heart. There was a moment when I felt like they were continuing to have the same argument with each other, which got a bit tedious, but overall, they were such a sweet pair to read about, and I really felt they loved each other in a deep, and real way.

I did wish for a little more detail into Len's relationship with her father to fully understand their dynamic. Additionally, I would have liked a few flashbacks of when Trish was in the picture, again, just for more understanding of their history.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and getting to spend more time in the Warner world. I'm looking forward to more stories and can't wait for the next read!

He was such a green flag! The way he loved her and the way she loved him was so strong! I loved how they had real life issues to deal with and were able to overcome them in a way that wasn’t a miscommunication that broke them up. It was them and they were true to themselves and each other! I love love love them!

I was going to rate this story 4 stars, but the main FMC really bothered me, especially towards the end. I did not like her at all.
I also hated how this book left a lot to be resolved with other characters. It felt very rushed towards the end, like the author wasn’t sure what conflict to add and how to add it.
Overall liked the book, but about 70% in made me change my mind on the book.

I really enjoyed this book. The banter and openness with minimal miscommunication because they talked things out. I absolutely loved the MMCs family. I would love to be a part of their family! They were such a fun part and had me laughing out loud. I didn't love the 3rd act almost breakup. But it definitely added to the story line. One of my favorites I've read this year.

So typically, I would start off telling you to read your trigger warnings, but this book is pretty safe. it’s a cute, swoony, hockey romance you love to love.

Len is a great fmc. She’s funny, witty and sweet. She might be too shy to talk to Clark and be a women he might notice but she doesn’t hold back when it comes to zaiah. She has no issues telling him what makes her happy.

Zaiah is this charming guy who really is a better guy than I think he puts off. Though in the beginning hearing him talk about his ex made me jealous that Len wasn’t her but it worked out well for both of them anyway.

The banter in this book was a+. I love a good banter and can’t get enough of it. It really makes it more enjoyable. You find yourself waiting for the next time. Of course it was super sweet and I really enjoyed how hockey wasn’t the “it” sport. I feel like it gave zaiah a more realistic and less untouchable vibe we see a lot. Plus E. M. knows how to spice them up.

    4 out of 5 stars.

    🌶️🌶️🌶️ out of five.

This book is a good palette cleanser if you need something that won’t keep you on edge the whole time! Enjoy!

“I’m a flawed man. I don’t deserve this. I don’t deserve Len, but as long as she’ll keep by my side, I’ll try for her.”

I’ll be honest at first I wasn’t to sure about this book, but once it got going I quickly fell in love with these two. Zaiah was super sweet, at times headstrong, and worse a little self sided. But the boy loves Len with his whole entire heart. I loved watching him fight to right the wrongs throughout this book.
Len really had a glow up in this book! From shy and lonely girl dreaming about her editor to spunky and confident writer who knows her worth.

“You’re special, Lenore, and I’m going to make sure you know it for as long as you allow me to.”

I’m super sad that there wasn’t an epilogue as I’d love to see what the next steps of these two characters would’ve been.

“There isn’t anything that can tear us apart when we grow together. Two people who care enough to work with each other. Who want to see the other win in the best of ways. Who will be by the others side while they do it and be the first to don the party hat.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Len and Zaiah

A college romance you don’t want to miss because it has it all.
We follow the journey of Len and Zaiah here. Two sweet characters who get their second chance with the right person this time.
He is her ex best friend's ex boyfriend and in need of a place to live in peace and quiet.
She has had her fair share of disastrous roommates and just needs someone nice and quiet.
They made a contract and it went well despite their difficult past. When Zaiah discovers her secret crush on someone and how that turns out, he offers her his help. As a dating coach.
But the more he gets into this the more he sees the girl behind the baggy clothes and gruff personality. A smart and beautiful one. And realizes he has turned her into someone he would be perfect for himself.
And watching her make her moves he only wants to turn the tables. But a girl that obviously hates hockey, would she even consider him.
There is a give and take between them. She can help him too. It follows hurt feelings, missing appreciation and groveling. Both needed to learn about the other one and think about each other's feelings. But that made it so real and relatable.
The ending was truly perfect, as it should be. We see that everything is possible.
I really liked his family and her dad too. The perfect addition. Zaiah’s teammates too.
Story and characters were very well written. They have their flaws and not everything is always wonderful and easy. I loved them both, separately and together.

Zaiah is wonderful, the type of guy dreams are made of, a real cinnamon roll. It really makes a change to read a book filled with sweetness, light and humour for a change. He’s the ideal guy to help Lenora emerge from her chrysalis into a beautiful butterfly. His family are hilarious, so alien yet welcoming to Len.
Struggle and self discovery for both Len and Zaiah make them both better people. I can certainly empathise with them both, trying to start out in life.
A great feel good book, will read again.

This was a great read that I read very quickly!

I enjoyed the ease of these characters and the fact that there wasn't heaps of drama with the whole a boy meets girl, boy messes up, girl breaks up with boy, boy redeems himself and boy and girl are back together again.
    I enjoyed the story arc!

I loved that we got to see Len enjoy herself if you know what I mean lol

I liked that Len was this quirky and awkward women who loved what she loved but also had this massive insecurity about herself that she grew out off.

I will say that I did get annoyed with "the problem" between the couple, I wasn't a fan of the behaviour, but it was a reality that does happen and so it kind of worked for them.

This was a cute fuzzy book that I would recommend.
