Review

"I've read many kink "puppy" stories but this one has to stand out as the most unique. I loved the give and take between Master and puppy and the puppy "additions" to the story to a different level. Totally hilarious at times." -- Amazon Review

"Puppy, what an awesome short read. This author's usual humor shows through into this unique Vampire Master and Puppy relationship. I loved the story between Liam and Caleb. The control is not always as it seems ;-) The kink is awesome and can't wait for more. If you love puppy play then this is a must read." -- Amazon Review

About the Author

R. Phoenix (code name: Raissa) has an unhealthy fascination with contrasts: light and dark, humor and pain, heroes and villains, order and chaos. She believes love can corrupt, power can redeem and that the best of intentions can cast shadows while the worst can create light. She agrees with those who say that the truth is best told through fiction - even though fiction has to make sense while reality can be utterly baffling. Her dark paranormal books explore a world where humanity has become prey, subjugated by "supes" - vampires, werewolves, and witches - who have seized control. They range from romance to dark erotica to horror and everything in between, exploring different aspects of the Fate of the Fallen universe. She's even published something she calls "playful dark erotica." Her tendency to explore dark topics isn't limited to a supernatural world. Her contemporary romance, Too Close, deals with the difficult topic of domestic violence. I really feel like the Author was just teasing us with this one.. lol. It was way too short. Almost like right when it was getting to the really good and Super kinky Dirty parts the book just ends.
*Pouts* I NEED MORE Dang it...
Dark and yet still sweet... Which are total opposites but I think both can describe this book.. I'm not normally one to read books about vampires but I Love Human Puppies so this was great and I found it really interesting. I liked the book itself as well as the narration and the story pulled me in from the first few sentences. First time with the narrator JJ Jenness and I thought he gave both the characters great voices. I especially liked the accent he used for Liam it was different than what I was initially expecting. I know there's a Collab book up next with another Author to finish off this story and I cannot wait to read (and listen to) it.

This says in the introduction that it's the first part of several, but it's a very satisfying installment, a quick read that reaches a nice concluding moment of these events, introduced the world in which they take place, and gives some context for a very different society.

Whether you are talking about Caleb or Liam, they have no idea what they are in for when they meet, but it leads down an interesting path.

I definitely could see myself liking this book a whole lot more if only it had included some background on the MCs, such that I would understand their motivations and desires. Or, I guess, understand them in more than just a superficial manner. This book felt more like a segment of a novel that I was given to read, in order to decide whether I wished to actually read the novel. And the answer would DEFINITELY have been yes, I’d love to read the novel! But it didn’t appear. And even if I had realized just how small the first book of this series would be, I’d still expect the first book to contain more of the overall arc of the tale as well as some basic clues regarding the vampire and human pet. As mentioned in the title, I feel like I was thrust into Kansas, but without a visit from the Good Fairy Glinda (I believe that’s her name) and with no idea why I was there. Almost like a time traveler who appears in a random point of time, with no notion as to when he/she has arrived and what is occurring around them. But I am truly looking forward to book two of the series!!

I’ve always liked the whole Human/Paranormal pairing but a human person pretending to be an animal is still new to me. I’ve recently learned that there is many more types of BDSM out there but puppy play is still kinda weird, in theory at least. In reading a fiction novel about it, its kinda cute. Liam having a psycho witch perform some sort of magic surgery to literally giving Caleb a tail rather than having him wear a butt plug with a fake tail attached is screwed up. Going a little too far in my opinion. But Liam is a 500 year old vampire, he’s bound to be a little messed up with that long of a lifespan.
It’s a very interesting and entertaining read with some very hot intimate scenes. Definitely worth checking out!

A heated short story with a non/dubiously-consensual dark edge, it‘s a dystopian setting of supernatural dominance and human enslavement erect a compelling frame for puppy play with just a bit of an edge.

This series came up on my feed and I gave it a shot as darker stories have grabbed my attention. This series definitely fits the bill and pushes a lot of buttons: paranormal elements that are outside the normal take, kinky desires with a dub-/non-con flair, great story supported by believable and surprisingly likable characters in their non-likability (check, check, check). I was left wanting more!! Great read - give it a try!!

    ***3.5 stars***

Interesting take on D/s relationship involving puppy play. Oh, and it's wickedly crazy. I truly did like this magically enhanced short story and I hope there will be more Caleb and Liam in the future. The ending is more ambiguous than HFN in my opinion. So, if you are looking for an HEA/HFN then I would skip this one. That is until the author continues with their story....hint, hint :) If that happens, it would be nice to know what happened in the past that lead to their paths crossing.

This is a very interesting story set in an extremely fascinating world where supernatural beings have taken over and humans are basically slaves. I was drawn to both MCs right away, Liam is the strong, fierce vampire who is searching for something to amuse himself with and Caleb is a strong, bratty human who knows exactly what he wants but refuses to give in right away. I really enjoyed the dynamic between them and they're interactions with other characters . The ending was perfect.

This is set in the Ripples series but a pure standalone although you'd be better off reading the series first....In this Liam a vampire is looking for something special and he finds Caleb.a human who's a bit of a brat...Once Liam gets him back to his hotel Caleb turns even brattier....I love how he plays naughty for Liam faking that he doesn't like it...I've not read puppy play before where the pup has got a proper tail...That was a cool idea.....When Liam finds out the Caleb actually likes it then it's all out going at it....This is short cute and quite amusing....A lovely little addition to the series x

A short Puppy kink mixed with vampires story. The plot was weak and the characters didn't really develop, maybe because the book is so short. There are a lot of much better puppy play books out there if this type of kink interests you.

5.0 out of 5 stars I adore this interconnected world!
Reviewed in Australia on February 21, 2022
Liam and Caleb’s story wasn’t as dark for me as some in the back catalogue—it’s sweeter in its dark and dirty way. Great intro if you’re game. While it’s technically a stand-alone, reading the crossovers further enhances the stories.

Caleb’s position in their upended world was surprisingly well protected, though his lack of self preservation was amusing. Liam was instantly enamoured by the taste of his new pet, despite tempting boundaries with his mouthy retorts.

“A vampire launched as a projectile could be a public health hazard?” - Caleb.

At 500 years, Liam is weary, nothing holds his attention in the world following the downfall. Tolerating Caleb, who aims to push everyone’s buttons, is a feat in itself.

Love seeing Desi again and her seemingly random musings.

“The stars shine bright; the world goes on. Your sire desecrates the balance of death and creation.”

The crossover between is always fun. Again, I encourage anyone reading to pick up books in all the series listed.

Short, engaging, and as always, a favourite re read. Well written, paranormal, dystopian, dub-con/non-con, mm. 4.5 ⭐️

    4.0 out of 5 stars 3.5* A smokin' hot little pet-play read......SPOILER incl.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 27, 2017
I’m not particularly a fan of paranormal romance/erotica usually, but a little pet-play on the other hand, most definitely rocks my world. It’s unquestionably one of the more entertaining kinks, especially when it has a slightly darker edge to it, as this does. That said, vampire Liam and his newly-acquired human puppy/slave, Caleb, have a weirdly almost sweet relationship that, although only a day old, I could certainly visualise developing into something so much more meaningful, the longer they spend together.

This may’ve only been a novelette-length tale, but it was a well-written one that included my absolute top kink in the BDSM genre...humiliation. Oh yeah…face-slapping, name-calling, a little public display and more – although I personally found the supernaturally-created tail a bit of a turn-off – with thankfully, not a whiff of the tired old trope of the Dom rewarding his sub with a bit of a light spanking for his brat-like behaviour. Not everyone's cuppa perhaps, but it fascinates the hell out of me, not to mention it's suitably smutty ;P

This short is a standalone, but I'd love a longer-length book dedicated solely to this pair and the evolution of their Master/pup relationship. I certainly wouldn't like Liam to become a soft touch toward his pet, but a little love thrown in his direction amidst the harshness and cruelty would be v much appreciated. Fingers crossed!
