The ‘Always a Bridesmaid’ series will be by many different authors and each book can be read as a stand-alone. The stories are sweet, contemporary romances that bring two people together. I enjoyed the characters, their interactions, and the ending of this book. The story takes place in Palm Beach, Florida along the coast. It’s a beautiful place for sunrises and sunsets and surfing.
Raven has come to Palm Beach and is staying with her Aunt Cindy. This is part of a yearly tradition. Soon, her cousin, Laura, will arrive to add to the fun. Raven will enjoy time on the beach, but she will also meet a group of people who enjoy surfing—and eventually, will allow them to teach her how to surf.
Charles Westerly, III, is spending time at Palm Beach, where he can enjoy downtime and surf. While here on the beach, he is just another guy who surfs that they call Coastal. There are no real demands on his time.
The story’s plot will bring Raven to the beach where she meets a group of friends who surf. She will be invited to join them but keeps things about herself a secret. Since most of the people have nicknames, Costal will start calling her Mystery—and she is happy with that. The story will cover many adventures that they have, learning to surf, kayaking, and playing volleyball on the beach. She does her best to use public access to the beach, even though it means going out of her way—but it keeps questions at bay.
I loved the characters, and the way that both Costal and Mystery developed a friendship, one that they each would hope for more, but demands on their lives may not allow. Aunt Cindy has a friend who has a son she wants Raven to meet, but she manages to dodge that issue all summer long. When Laura shows up, it keeps them busy with wedding preparations—yes, once again, Raven will be in a wedding—as the Maid of Honor. What will happen when the summer ends and it is time to return to her job? Costal is leaving soon too. They have become close but remain distant regarding their true identities. Will the truth be revealed when they least expect it?
