Realm of Dragons (Age of the Sorcerers—Book One) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 3,861 ratings

“Has all the ingredients for an instant success: plots, counterplots, mystery, valiant knights, and blossoming relationships replete with broken hearts, deception and betrayal. It will keep you entertained for hours, and will satisfy all ages. Recommended for the permanent library of all fantasy readers.”
--Books and Movie Reviews, Roberto Mattos (re The Sorcerer’s Ring)

“The beginnings of something remarkable are there.”
--San Francisco Book Review (re A Quest of Heroes)

From #1 bestseller Morgan Rice, author of A Quest of Heroes (over 1,300 five star reviews) comes the debut of a startlingly new fantasy series.

REALM OF DRAGONS (Age of the Sorcerers—Book One) tells the story of the epic coming of age of one very special 16 year old boy, a blacksmith’s son from a poor family who is offered no chance of proving his fighting skills and breaking into the ranks of the nobles. Yet he holds a power he cannot deny, and a fate he must follow.

It tells the story of a 17 year old princess on the eve of her wedding, destined for greatness—and of her younger sister, rejected by her family and dying of plague.

It tells the tale of their three brothers, three princes who could not be more different from each other—all of them vying for power.

It tells the story of a kingdom on the verge of change, of invasion, the story of the dying dragon race, falling daily from the sky.

It tells the tale of two rival kingdoms, of the rapids dividing them, of a landscape dotted with dormant volcanoes, and of a capital accessible only with the tides. It is a story of love, passion, of hate and sibling rivalry; of rogues and hidden treasure; of monks and secret warriors; of honor and glory, and of betrayal and deception.

It is the story of Dragonfell, a story of honor and valor, of sorcerers, magic, fate and destiny. It is a tale you will not put down until the early hours, one that will transport you to another world and have you fall in in love with characters you will never forget. It appeals to all ages and genders.

Realm of Dragons (Age of the Sorcerers—Book One), my second read from author Morgan Rice, an author I'd wanted to read for a long time but never got around to. I bought a Kindle edition back in December of 2019 and finally when I bought the Chirp audiobook I read it and now I'm voluntarily reviewing it. An epic in nature, 6-hours 58-minutes, 222-pages/ but reads longer due to the detail & development of the story and the ending, the ending. I look forward to reading more from this author and look forward to Throne of Dragons (Age of the Sorcerers—Book Two). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

I loved this book so much! Strong opening of a complex fantasy series; princes, princesses, a young blacksmith with an unexplained magical gift, dragons, danger, intrigue... what's not to like? I was less pleased at how many story arcs got started and none of them resolve. Still, I was captivated by the character development, the different directions the royal family members are going that still affect one another, and the questions that multiply quickly the longer we get to know the blacksmith's son. I wanted to see a lot more of that, and was upset more didn't happen.

If I can get the rest of the series from the library, I'll read it. Probably won't buy the whole series unless they knock my socks off.

This book was a fun read and had a few errors. The characters and plot are well done and are mostly enjoyable to read. The plot is interesting and different at the same time, with dragons, kings, princesses and princes. Some of the main characters are a bit annoying to read about. They are the typical all around characters from any book I have read and overall predictable. The plot goes back and forth between characters and can get tedious at times. I do look forward to book 2.

Devin is learning weapons craft as a blacksmith. His innate understanding of the metal has already caught the notice of his master but it is not enough to save him when he runs afoul of Prince Vars. With no job, homelessness threatens until his life becomes intertwined with Prince Rodry, heir to the throne. Devin is mystified by odd powers that arise when he is threatened and even more so, by the King’s wizard who appears to him in a dream.

This is the first book in the series and it is a great read! There is treachery, plenty of action, magic, and dragons. It culminates in a cliff hanger, which drives me crazy since I will have to wait for the next book to see what happens next. Morgan Rice has delivered an exciting start to this new series! I finished it in one day.

Good story. But strong character building gives this book a slow start. It took until 60% of the book was done before it hooked me then the rest of the book fell away within a day. If I hadn't read and if Morgan's other series I probably would have let this book go. Trust me it is a worthwhile endeavor and read. Now, we just have to wait for the next book/books so see what he does to my new friends. I have no doubt it will be entertaining and feeling invoking as his other books.

Realm of Dragons Book One was a great read. The suspense of plots and counterplots was exciting. Mysteries, and valiant knights, life in the kingdom and blossoming relationships of love and romance keep you reading for hours. Look forward to book 2.

A new, exciting story! Morgan Rice did it again, describing a world in which magic and human feelings meet together, with characters quite different one other. It’s a story which captures every reader, the young and the adult. I’m waiting for this series’ next book!

3.0 out of 5 stars most of the book is an introduction of characters
Reviewed in Germany on May 21, 2021
One of the first books of this author that did not draw me in and kept me there with suspense. Maybe the reason was that there are so many protagonists, or important characters (?) to be introduced, that the first book in this series is more or less one big introduction to the persons, and where they are at the beginning of the events I hope will follow in the next books.
In the last third, the narration picked up a bit, things started to happen, and the reader was shown that some of the characters may not be what they seem on the surface (not that that wasn't suspected).
So we have a royal family with 6 children, very different from each other, and the book takes the reader into the middle of the wedding preparations of Princess Lenore, and all the chaos that includes. We learn of palace intrigues at court, of another kingdom set on conquest, of strange things found by a sick princess, and of unknown powers which make a young man question his origins, and a lot more. Some of these events are related, some seem unrelated - as yet? We will see.
I do hope the second book in this series will be as captivating as the ones in this author's other series. It is definitely not a bad book, it may just be that I have been spoilt by this author so far.

This is a story of many parts. Full of fantastic people living in medieval times in a fantasy setting. These characters are full of life and vigour, with hopes and dreams, living exciting lives. I loved this story and now that I have given this brief review, I am off to read book 2!

Do I recommend this book? Wholeheartedly yes!

If you like magic, dragons, and lots of sword fighting, plus a whole lot more all rolled into one, then you will love this book!

3.0 out of 5 stars A good concept but far too short
Reviewed in Australia on March 1, 2023
All the characters are complete cliches. Oldest son a hero knight, middle son insecure & mean, third son bookish and shy, oldest daughter vapid & stereotypical beautiful princess, second daughter sick and ailing, youngest daughter wants to me a knight (move over Arya Stark here comes Erin).

The story has all the makings of a grand epic with dragons & magicians, Kings, princes & conquerors but the plot never develops far enough around each of these characters to provide the depth & gravitas that it really needs.

Each chapter we have a different characters point of view, (with way too much time spent on stupid vapid Princess Lenore) and by the time you come back to the interesting characters, there is a jump & a leap of faith as to their development & progress.

Added to this the book ends in the middle of the action because it is so short.

WARNING: each book is extremely short & they get more expensive the further you progress in the series simply because you are, by that stage, committed & invested.
