- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2018It's a long time since I read a historical romance, so I found this a refreshing change from the heavy stuff of murder mysteries which I am currently into. 'The Reclusive Duke' is a delightful, light-hearted read that is easy to relax with. While it is not a typical rags-to-riches tale, it follows the protagonist's journey from ignominious circumstances to that of potential Duchess. While the emotional impact is light-on, it is fitting for relationships of the era. Well written with a satisfying, if not, expected conclusion.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2018Not off much from the normal boy meet girl, I did like the spunk of Lydia and Elliott showed that adversity could be overcome. Adored the children ( thought twins could have been mentioned more) as possibilities for them are boundless. "Loved Benji" Thought might be more about uncle, the villain.
My big problem was hitting words that cause a "what?" CARER was first sure can be found somewhere as meaning caregiver, but just grates. Just say it and you'll see. A hack usually refers to horse not ride, hire a hackney..-cab- Bosky? Not even Wikipedia could find that. All and all a clean sweet read but maybe more geared to the younger reader. But thanks to miss Miller for the chance to read and review.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2018I give five stars to the stories I thoroughly enjoy reading, and this was one of them. Problems to be worked through, very likable people, even the duke in his grumpy state, charming children, no villain to be thwarted, I recommend this as a fun read, to be re-read later.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2018Entertaining and enjoyable. Quick read. Characters were we’ll fleshed out. Would have enjoyed it a little more if the main antagonists were a little more engaged. But, all and all a good read.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2018Lydia has been guardian to four nieces and nephews when their mother and father died. The children and Lydia haven't enough money to live unless Everett who is a Duke and has enough money to care for them. He makes sure they are moved into a house and taken care of but he wants nothing to do with them. The more he sees Lydia, the more he wants her. After a clumsy proposal where she refuses to marry him, he changes tactics. Another relative wants to take the children, which Lydia or Everett will not allow. Will Lydia change Her mind about marrying Everett and will they keep the children? Lovely story of overcoming obstacles and falling in love.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2018I didn’t particularly like the hero or heroine. She was rude and ungrateful most of the time. He was a dry stick. The story line was boring and undeveloped though the author used a lot of descriptive words. There were editing errors as well which is always annoying. More so when suffering through to the ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2018My first from this author. OK would consider another for a quick read. Very clean with good depth in her storyline and characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet.....
Largely well edited. The storyline was enjoyable, included dogs, horses and children which all resulted in an about turn of our hero’s behaviour. A good light read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Excellent dread I did ' t want. to put the book Down .
The book was gripping ,an original story line without the need for sex ,another excellent book from Fenella who keeps her stories accurate to the period a d does it make mistakes of placing i correct details or idioms which often spoil the stories supposedly set I n Recency England

1.0 out of 5 stars I have no idea what others look for in a regency novel but for me this was Terrible
The writer obviously can write, but (a) too many gratuitous anachronisms one of which is this weird sentence about how a boy should not be dressed as a "girl" `? back then children were dressed gender neutrally in dresses until a certain age NO woman would have thought that the "boys should be dressed like "boys" because that is who boys were dressed at that age (like many things this changed a LOT later through media pushes (b) too much Tell not show... the stuff ready to me like a fleshed out outline, not a novel or novella. I had to strain to even finish it and skipped a lot in teh second half when it became clear that none of the ppl would ever develop an actual character...
Clearly the author has done something that is GREAT for many ppl. as the other reviews show. but for me this was on the level of a longer essay in school, not of an utterly ungifted student, but not even "beginner" level of what I expect of an author. The plot was okay-ish tho not really plausible to me. The substory with the dog made ma a former dog owner shake my head but I would suspend disbelief and the idea was not bad, as such. I think it could have been fleshed out into a novel that - if the author usually does not "tell" this much and has such a need to tidy and explain everything in actual novels- I might have enjoyed. as it was I was appalled enough to write this review, a thing I rarely do.
