Release: MM Rent Boy Romance (Rent Boys Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 137 ratings

When life holds them captive, can love be their release?

Selling his body since he was a fifteen-year-old runaway, rent boy Sean Farrell has learned the hard lesson that the only way to survive the streets is to act tough and cocky. But an act is all it is, as underneath he’s never felt more adrift as he struggles with crippling self-doubt. Sean’s distilled life into three simple rules: earn enough cash to get by, stick close to the friends who have become his family — and don’t let anyone steal his heart.

Art is Laurie Cassell’s profession and passion. His calm and ordered life is just how he thinks he wants it, but it’s becoming harder to ignore the creeping feeling that calm and ordered has become dull and predictable. Laurie craves more but doesn’t know what, or not until a man with dark hazel eyes and a bad attitude swaggers into his life — and leaves with his heart.

Two men who should never have met, let alone fallen in love. Can Sean and Laurie release the other from lives that are holding them captive?

Making Your Heart Pound... One Beat at a Time.

The stories I only ever told myself were set in a world where boy met boy, where best friends became more, where the hero rescued not the damsel but the hot guy he'd been secretly crushing on.

I wanted to read those stories. I craved to read those stories. But those stories weren't out there. Or that's what I thought, until one Christmas, when I unwrapped a shiny new e-reader. All it took was a few clicks, and my world changed forever.

I found my tribe.

But there is life outside of MM & gay romantic fiction in all its configurations. Allegedly.

When I'm forced to switch off the trusty, faithful word machine, there's a husband to feed and talk to, pubs to drink in, and cake to eat. I love to do all those things and more, before I rush back to write all the words.

I'm a Londoner, born and bred, but I now live just outside the big bad city but close enough to hop on a train so I can get my regular metropolitan fix.

Slow burn
This was an amazing story a slow build up and so well worth the wait. This is Sean and Laurie's story, Sean is a rent boy who sells himself to be able to live as this is the only way of life he has known and Laurie who works in a art gallery. They have a few ups and downs along the way but love finally takes hold.

After running into each other 3 times, Sean and Laurie begin a slow burn romance against a London backdrop. Sean, being a rent boy, doesn't feel like he deserves a good life as he's been used and abused since he was fifteen. Laurie, who is more refined, and has money and a comfortable but lonely life, has his own secret past and when they finally decide to move forward both their pasts come crashing down to almost destroy their new found romance. Luckily they both have friends who realize their relationship is meant to be and push them to put the past behind them. I'm so glad they listened. Lots of hurt/comfort and a hard earned HEA with an epilogue. I love all the English terms used in the book as it makes it more authentic to me. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

The characters were written well and I enjoyed the angst, however toward the end I began to get annoyed with Laurie, and even Laurie knew why, he judged Sean for his life and it turned me off of his character. If it wasn’t for Sean and the rest of the housemates, I believe I would’ve given up on the story for Laurie alone. I am intrigued by the series and can’t wait to see whose story is next.

    A rent boy/man.
    An art historian.
How can two men with such different lives succeed as a couple?

Luckily honesty, love and forgiveness is all it takes.

But their talks will make you weep.you

Gritty with a bit of angst and a slow-burn connection. Both men are really great guys and neither is perfect, which is kinda perfect. Together they find a way to be some much more than they can be individually. I really liked how they wanted to be their best self for each other.

Sean and Laurie are great together and my belief in the grew as they worked through each new complication. I loved their holiday and made family and look forward to seeing more of them in the future.

i am a huge fan of the Barista Boys books and it was awesome to have some of them make cameo appearances. I love that the cafe can continue to give men a second chance at a future.

This is the first book in the new Rent Boy's series and i will look forward to the next one.

I was gifted this book from Gay Book Promotions and i freely give my honest opinion and review.

A E Ryecart is a ‘new to me’ author….I had just purchased book one of each of her series Barista Boys and Deviant Hearts and loved them. So, moving on to Book #2 in each series would be a must!! While purchasing them , I noted another series to begin this week and had to have it!

This book was heartbreaking in some of its story, two young men each from different upbringings, yet the baggage they carried.

Sean never really had a chance, running away at 15 from being raped nightly in a group home by someone supposed to keep him safe. Sean was forced to sell his body for food and home, the bare necessities’. Laurent had a better financial life, prep school, college and now a decent home he inherited from a rich aunt and a decent job. Oh Fate can be a wonderful thing…….This time it was tough.

Sean and Laurie are direct opposites yet so the same as the author weaves her spell and lets them see all they both needed was each other….The story is sometimes hard to read with Sean’s second guessing ….filled with such self doubt. Laurie becomes his strength after sharing himself and the relationship has possibilities to bloom.

Release Book #1 of The Rent Boys Series follows the same timeline and place as Barista Boys. It was wonderful to see some of the cast I had read about in Jude’s and Danny’s book.

A Good beginning to another Series !!!!!

4.5 stars for this touching story of opposites attracting, hurt/comfort, and class conflict. I adore Sean, a man who has been on his own for a very long time, building a life and a family against all obstacles. Laurie is basically a sweet guy, but clearly has some growing to do in less obvious ways than Sean, who desperately wants to change his life and get off the street but doesn’t quite see how to manage that. From the beginning they are drawn to each other, and when fate keeps tossing them at each other it’s clearly meant to be.

As with all of AE’s stories, there is darkness and angst and hard times that make the HEA that much more wonderful. I may not have liked Laurie’s behavior all the time, but that’s the sort of detail that makes a Ryecart book entirely believable. People are products of their upbringing, and bridging a gap like this is no small feat. Toby is fabulous too, and hopefully will get his own love story soon. I received an advance copy in return for my honest review.

I loved A.E. Ryecart’s “A Kiss Before Christmas” so I jumped at the chance to read “Release”. Unfortunately “Release” fell a bit flat for me. I never really connected with Laurie but did love Sean and the supporting characters. I felt like the story dragged in places and I found myself putting the book down to read others, which is not a good sign. I’m undecided if I will continue the series or pick up any of her other series. Overall it’s well written, just didn’t work for me.

I give this book 2.5 stars.

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Another great book by A.E. Ryecart. This is about Sean a rent boy since a very young age and Laurie a much more upper class art lover. Again as in A.E.’s other work we have an opposites attract type of novel. It is a trope that A.E. does extraordinarily well. The lives of the two main characters collide and in masterfully believable writing the two overcome their differences and learn to see into each other. I loved it.

I enjoyed this story but didn't love it ...tbh I found it a bit long winded at rhe start, I found it hard to get into and I skipped some chunks ...the back end was much better.

Sean and Laurie..almost had too many dramas but thank goodness for friends who stuck their noses in and made the two MCs communicate

but they did eventually get their HEA
