The Reluctant Marquess: A Regency Romance (The Duke's Daughters Book 5) Kindle Edition
Can the love of a good woman change a man?
Marquess Hugh Seaworth is far too busy enjoying himself in London to think about matrimony. Despite being next in line to a Dukedom, Hugh wants to get as much enjoyment out of life as he can before he is forced to settle down. However, his father, the current Duke of Westbrook, has other plans.
When an unknown young lady steps out of the carriage and into his life, Hugh is forced to reconsider his plans for London. Miss Marjory Newton, daughter of Viscount Harrington, apparently needs a husband and Hugh finds himself encumbered with that responsibility. Having no choice but to help Miss Newton, Hugh quickly presents her to a few suitable gentlemen, only to realize that matters such as matrimony take longer than just a few hasty introductions.
The more he becomes involved with Miss Newton, the more he discovers that it is not only his mind that is caught up with her – it is his heart. Miss Newton, however, shows no inclination towards him and, when one of her suitors proposes, Hugh finds himself caught between his duty and his heart. Which one will win out in the end?
“The Reluctant Marquess” is a work of historical romance fiction. It is a prequel to the series, The Duke's Daughters, and is the final book of the series. It is a standalone romance set in Regency era London involving the Duke of Westbrook as a young man. Every book is a guaranteed HEA and there are no cliffhangers.

Review
An amazing heartfelt read! A non-stop bundle of intrigue that takes you through an emotionally heartfelt storyline that is sweet, enjoyable and intense! A beautifully written must read!
Loved the book. It is a sweet clean romance that is well written and enjoyable. Seaworth finds love in the most unexpected person at a time when he had no desire to marry. Because of Molly and the strong feelings he began to have for her, he changed his entire demeanor and thoughts. It is a great love story and would be appropriate for any age group.
If you love historical romances, especially Regency romances, this is a wonderful book! Full of everything that makes me continue to read and love Regency: a reluctant playboy who falls hard for a lady; misunderstandings between characters; and all of the great details of the period.
A sweet romance, this is the story of Hugh Seaworth before he became Duke of Westbrook. Very interesting complex characters and a good storyline. A wonderful historical story that will keep your interest from the very first page.
This was a delightful book.I enjoyed it very much. Light, funny, romantic, suspenseful at times. I highly recommend this book and author.

About the author

Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother (Mom didn't like the sexy book covers!)
She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her. She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.
On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!

- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2018What a marvelous love story to end this series, even though I wish it could go on and on. In the previous books, we saw Hugh Seaworth, Duke of Westbrook, as a loving, caring father. Here we see what he was like as the heir to the Dukedom. He was arrogant, self-centered, thinking only of his own pleasures. No one and nothing else mattered before he reluctantly became Miss Marjery “Molly” Newton’s escort during the London Season. The love that developed between these two was beautiful to behold, even though they were unsure of their new and strange feelings. This is a wonderful story because, with the change in Hugh from a rogue to a true gentleman, he and Molly are the perfect couple. I would certainly recommend this book and this whole series to everyone who likes Regency historicals. Rose Pearson is a fabulous author of this time period. I received an advance reader copy of this book, which I have voluntarily reviewed and given my honest opinion, but I also purchased this book.

His father has other plans and encumbers him with the responsibility of finding a husband for Marjory Newton, daughter of a deceased viscount. Hugh introduces Marjory to a few suitable gentlemen. Hugh becomes intrigued with Marjory, but she shows no inclination toward him. When a suitor gets close to proposing to Marjory/Molly, Hugh is caught between his duty and his heart. Hug was arrogant, rude, and selfish. He begins to like and enjoy Molly, and that changes him. It is interesting to see how Hugh changes. Molly is sweet, caring, and grateful. This is a sweet story.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2019The last thing that Marquess Hugh Seaworth wants is to become the Duke of Westbrook so when his brother calls on him unexpectedly he thinks the worst. Their father has taken ill and they are not too sure if he will make it. Hugh isn't ready to leave his partying behind and so when his father offers him a way out he takes it. Miss Molly Newton can't believe that she is off to London for a season and that she has two chaperones that will see that she finds a good match. Hugh can't believe that she is willing to offer herself up so quickly and he knows that he has to act quickly or else she will marry someone that won't make her happy. But his head is all in the clouds as he finds that he really enjoys spending time with Molly and that he could see himself settling down with her. But he knows that he isn't good enough for her so he takes a step back. Molly is confused by Hugh he wants her but he can't offer her what she wants, what must she do? Marry someone that she thinks will make her happy or must she hope that Hugh changes his mind and only wants her? A good read.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2024I enjoyed this novel that ends The Duke’s Daughters series. It was interesting to learn about the father that was in the first four books and to read his story.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2019Hugh is happy to be living his life the way he does and is aware that he will have to eventually forgo his way if life and settle down and find a wife so that he can produce an heir, but not yet! When he arrives home, at a very late hour of the night, or a very early hour if you wanted to be more accurate. The last thing he wanted to hear was his brother Rodger was there to speak with him. Great another ploy by his father to get him to come home. He goes to bed and is rudely awakened by pounding on his door. Rodger can't wait to speak with him since it is already 1:30 in the afternoon. Rodger informs him that their father is gravely ill and needs him at home and he is leaving with in the hour and wants to know if Hugh is coming home with him or not. Of course Hugh makes the right decision and will be accompanying him to see his father. What happens next both surprises and confuses him. What happens next? Read this great story by Rose Pearson to find out!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2019This was a simple but enjoyable romance. Hugh and Molly were a good match. However, I couldn’t see a real motivation for Hugh to be so hedonistic. Perhaps just the folly of youth? And Molly was actually too beautiful and too perfect. So, it was a formula type of story. But I thought it was nice and I smiled at the end.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2018What a beautiful story! Lord Seaworth and Molly. How he changed because of her was extraordinary.
Molly started out being very impressed by him until he told her he was not what she thought.
Will they ever realize that they love one another or will Molly marry another?
I've read or listened to each of his daughters stories and was very impressed with each of them.
I'm so happy to listen to how their father and mother fell in love. Knowing all this makes me sad that the girls mother died early.
However I'm so glad to have been privileged to know this part of the story too. Thanks to the author for tying his story in with his daughters stories.
I highly recommend that you get this incredible book and read or listen to it yourself so that you can find out everything that happens.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Reluctant Marquees
Lord Seaworth is out having a great time before he has to take responsibility, gaming, drinking, and enjoying the pleasure of women. His father keeps asking him to return home and take over tasks, he keeps refusing.
Molly is past the loss of her father and now is going to London for her season, she hopes to find a husband and to have a family of her own.
Lord Seaworth is told his father is ill and he goes home to find him well enough. But told he must take Molly back to London and ensure she finds a good match. He is a bit upset with the development.
Great book I enjoyed reading it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A sweet romance?
I found this little romance slightly mawkish. I would have liked to know if gambling really was the Lord Donoghue’s problem. It didn’t seem serious enough. It seemed strange that The ‘at homes’ only seemed to be composed of one suitor. Normally after a debut the young lady would receive many visitors. All in all a very bland book.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a sweet Regency romance
These are characters you can identify with as they make their way through the maze of London society. The very satisfying conclusion makes me eager to read the next books in the series. Well done story line and development of personalities make this an enjoyable read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple romance
I downloaded this book while it was free as the author was new to me. It is a simple tale, not true regency, but a nice evening or holiday read.
