Remnant Faction (Peacekeepers of Sol Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 1,441 ratings

It is the first and final duty of any warship to put herself between the innocent... and the enemy.

Henry Wong and Sylvia Todorovich have gathered the interstellar powers of the Ra Sector into a tentative alliance—an alliance that is tested by the return of the Sector’s former rulers: the Kenmiri Remnant.

The Sector’s only hope of withstanding a genocidal faction of the Kenmiri is the Twelfth Fleet of the United Planets Alliance. But when Wong’s scouting flotilla collides with the Kenmiri, he discovers they now have a weapon that could easily destroy Twelfth Fleet.

Wong and Todorovich are stranded on the wrong side of a world the Remnant have burned, and they only have one way to meet their allies before it’s too late.

If Henry Wong is to save his people and his allies, he must take his ship on a deadly run into the hostile star systems of the Kenmiri Remnant: the very species he doomed to a slow death.

What a jump! Again a great space opera and what a Battle. Freedom is backed with blood price. I enjoyed all the attack tricks with love and honor.

It lacks that something that keeps you hooked and makes a book into an all night page turner.

My experience with this entire series was, a little too clinical, not enough enthusiasm in the plot, characters or adversaries. It just wasn’t there, the emotional expects were minimal, distant. Clinical. This book is no different. Good, enjoyable, but not brilliant.

So, only four stars, until this story gets a soul of its own.

The brief peace the Ra Sector enjoys is shattered when a rogue Kenmiri fleet attacks. The rogue fleet seeks vengeance against all who failed to protect the Kenmorad creches and those who attacked the Kenmorad.

Commodore Henry Wong and his new ship, Paladin, can only bear witness to the destruction of a system and the loss of a billion lives when the Kenmiri rogue fleet rains nuclear fire scouring the planet of all life. His ship wouldn’t change the outcome of the battle against an overwhelming Kenmiri fleet. Wong must warn other systems and his fleet of the new threat. With the Kenmiri blocking key transit points, Wong must decide on the long and safe route, potentially letting other systems burn or take a shorter but far more perilous route through Kenmiri space.

And who would be better to send against a rogue Kenmiri fleet than the “Destroyer” himself?

A very entertaining story with great characters and plenty of twists.

Stewart has been among my top-rated hard SciFi (both space/military series and other) writers. Not only are his stories well written and plotted, but flow. His climaxes are very dramatic, pulse pounding reading, but also paced with sideline elements and character development.
This particular book provides lots of new background about the Kenmiri universe, a devastating opening event, a well-paced chase with clear consequences, a huge space battle that is only a backdrop to Henry Wong's mission.
The only problem is whether this is Stewart's closer for this series, or perhaps offering a new series. His writing is so good, i now pretty much snatch anything new ASAP. Extremely highly recommended!

I don't give 5 stars to anything but nebula/Hugo award winners.
This windup of a very good space opera exploring the problems of winning a rebellion against an empire.
But needing to win the peace too.
Recommended series with no magic involved.

Glynn Stewart is an Amazing Author! Each of his universes is unique, even with shared characteristics. The cliffhangers at the end of books 2,3, and 4 were... painful. Fortunately, Book 5 came out just before I got to it! It was Thoroughly Satisfying!
(Now, Mr. Stewart, get moving on the Dakotan Confederacy! My son agrees with me on All Of This!!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Explosive finish!

This whole book was one long build-up to a single battle that was … magnificent.

There were times I became impatient with Stewart’s obsession for counting ships, balancing ship sizes, and armaments. I imagine he has a tiny nebula of spaceship models in his writer room that he moves about as he writes the details. Yet, it’s that attention to detail that makes these books so great.

I’m not unhappy ... at all … with the way the book ended. Seeing Commodore Wong get what he deserved was exhilarating, exultant, and probably a few other ‘ex’ words.

Very pleased with the way the alliance is shaping up.

So, I enjoyed the story, it followed most of the lines I expected, but the main fleet engagement just felt too fast. Normally not a huge deal, but the majority of the book was spent hyping us up for the battle and it felt like it was over in seconds. Kind of felt like a disservice, but the rest of the book was great
