It's obvious from reading the reviews that people have differing tastes. I, for one, appreciated everything about this story. I like the way each succeeding story picks up where the prior one left off. I like how the author creates each warrior and human different. I like the way warriors adapt themselves to the culture and the culture (mostly) adapts to them. I like the way each story is packed with different adventures for each couple. I appreciate the way each couple faces different attachment struggles before the final HEA. And I particularly appreciate the author's command of her craft, her use of language, and the research she puts in to make the technical, medical, and physiological aspects of her story accurate and believable.
In this story a human female is left behind after a rescue attempt from a nefarious group of human males. Unfortunately for one warrior she is his mate, so he gets himself "captured" to rescue her. The rescue takes place, followed by a slow trek across town to the friendly compound, punctuated by further adventures. At the compound our heroine slowly learns to trust again after having been maltreated in her former group by her husband and the other males, but she is not yet ready to commit to being a mate. An excursion to salvage solar panels is sabotaged by her former group, which leads to some further heart-stopping moments, but in the end love wins out and the reader can revel in her/his happy ever after.
I am loving these books, and I sincerely hope the author has about 30 years more of these stories in her backpack, because that's about how long I have left to live (I'm 78 now) and I want to be reading one on my deathbed.
