Fearless (The Motel Brothers: Room for Love Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 342 ratings

Theo Bruster has a bad habit. You could call him attentive or observant, and you would not be wrong, because Theo has always liked to watch. Growing up in a hotel has given him an exciting and easy life, but he's ready to put some space between himself and the only home he's ever known. But sometimes when you're not looking for anything, you find something, and Brad and Theo are about to learn that the hard way.

Brad has secrets that not even his brothers know, but he finds himself opening up to Theo and trusting him in ways that are new to them both. The relationship that develops between them might be unconventional, but under Theo's watchful eye, Brad can re-gain control and for the first time in his life, be fearless.

My heart hurts. Brad's story is different from his brothers', it's sadder, darker, and I just wanted to wrap him up and keep him away from the mean author because no one deserves to go through what he did. This book is everything you want in a Kate Hawthrone book. She gives us kink and feels and love and makes us hurt for these men who just want to be themselves.

Theo is a voyeur, he doesn't call himself this, he's just observant (his words), but at the heart of it he's a voyeur. I was excited about that aspect of this book because I haven't read any books like it before and Kate Hawthorne always has the best kink. Theo saw everything and everyone, but no one really saw him, they didn't get him or his needs and why he liked what he liked...until Brad caught him that is.

Brad is a precious baby and I wanted to protect him from the world. My heart hurt for him over and over again while reading. He was coasting through life, his secrets a heavyweight on him, until he realized that Theo was there, watching him. Seeing him. In more ways than one.

Together, they navigate Brad's healing. Theo is patient and kind and perfect for Brad. He doesn't push, but he's always there for whenever and whatever Brad needs. From reclaiming his sexuality to falling in love to getting the support from his brothers that he wasn't ready for years ago. This book has it all and my heart is currently in tatters because it's so full of love for the characters and sadness that in order for their story to be told one of them had to hurt.

Hurt/comfort is one of my favorite tropes because while it's hard to read the pain of a character, it's so invigorating to see them take back their life. Brad gets that but he gets so much more. He discovers parts of himself that he didn't know existed because of what happened to him. Theo gets it, too. He gets someone who doesn't shame him for what he likes but encourages him to be himself, to watch, to take, to feel everything he's always wanted to.

Fearless was everything. Brad and Theo are everything. Their love story was both hard and easy at the same time. Easy in that they were able to see each other right away. They just got it. Hard because there were emotions all over the place and I just wanted to take care of them until I knew they would be okay.

These Motel brothers just keep getting better and better. Every single book I think that those characters are my favorite and then they get upstaged by their brother in the next one because they're so good. Kinky and loveable and so broken in ways none of us understand until we read their book. No one suspected that this is the way Brad's book was going to go. Until now he kept his past a tight-lipped secret. That only makes me wonder what Andy is holding back because you could see it was something. He even admitted that there as a guy out there somewhere. And Andy is so dominant, such a "there" presence, I cannot wait to see what happens in his book. I have a feeling he's going to take us all for a ride.

I loved reading about Theo and Brad getting together. Reading about Brad's past was emotional and Theo's devotion to him was beautiful. This story is about unconditional love and acceptance. But I do wish the ending had more. I hope to read about Andy next.

I love Kate and the way she writes her books. She handles tougher topics in a meaningful way. This is so apparent in this book. Brad is so so strong, and he’s hidden his pain for so long. Theo likes to watch and he has a good sense of what people are hiding. These two characters compliment each other beautifully. As for the other residents of Cherry Creek they just bring the character and charm to this story. I genuinely loved it all.

Both Theo and Brad have a lot of issues that would make having a relationship with anyone a major challenge. The author does a good job of bringing these two men together despite the low odds that either of them can invest very much into each other – but they do. And the result is a decently paced development of affection and trust. They embrace each other’s idiosyncrasies and provide each other a safe place to fall in love.

This book had a lot for me to unpack. It starts on a pretty dark moment in Brad’s life and takes a bit to let up, because honestly, Theo came off as pretty shady to me at first, as well. Despite the happy-go-lucky vibe I’ve gotten from Theo in both this book series and Lindsey’s On the Market books, the reveal of what he’s been up to “behind the scenes” was super sketchy. The consent issues with Theo’s voyeurism also bother me, especially as it becomes evident that others in the town are aware of his proclivities and brush them off as harmless. Theo is incredibly fortunate that he falls for Brad, who doesn’t necessarily have a “being watched” kink, but instead regains power over his life via Theo’s habits.

All of the above may or may not make sense because I’m trying to (mostly) avoid spoilers. Brad’s trauma and resulting anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) warrant potential readers checking out the book’s warnings. Even though Brad has been in treatment at this point in his life and attempted to adopt healthy coping mechanisms, it’s clear that Theo sparks something in him that Brad thought long-gone.

The mutual crushing between Brad and Theo is obvious, and it’s just fate (and possibly because they live in a romance novel) that their individual needs line up so nicely. Everyone in their families and social circles seems to accept the pairing as inevitable, except the brother who returns to town late (having not taken the hotel inheritance deal from their father). I immediately latched onto Andy as a voice of reason, ending up way more curious about his own story as it fed into the last half of this book than I was in Brad and Theo’s inevitability.

This installment is still worth reading as part of the series. While I ultimately enjoy reading Hawthorne’s take on all the brothers, along with her excellent writing, this book didn’t jive with me as much as the others in this series.

It took me the first three books to realize things sounded familiar! I went searching and discovered this series is connected to EM Lindsey’s On The Market series! So amazing! Lots of the secondary characters appeared in this series. So fun! Great job!

I really love Brad and Theo. Brad had something horrible happen to him which led him to not trust easily. Theo really likes Brad but not just as a friend. Brad and Theo are beautiful together!

Brad kann einem schon leid tun, er hatte es in den letzten Jahren wirklich nicht leicht. Umso schöner dass er auf Theo trifft und durch ihn wieder zu sich selbst findet.
