About the author

David Watkins lives in Devon in the UK with his wife, two sons, ridiculous dog and psychotic cat. He has currently released five novels and several short stories. Each book is well rated and reviewed on Amazon and beyond.
His most recent release is The Original's Rage, from Original Books Publishing.
Dave can be found on various social media platforms where you'll find him ranting about horror, the British education system and Welsh rugby, but not usually at the same time.
He hates referring to himself in the third person, but no-one else is going to write this for him.
Praise for David Watkins:
"Great monsters and dynamic characters make this brutal, bloody, brilliant novel an essential read. I'll never see Exeter in the same light again!" - Tim Lebbon, The Last Storm (praise for The Exeter Incident)
"...gut twisting scenes...” 4* Joe X Young, Gingernuts of Horror (The Devil's Inn)
"..a damn entertaining read.." - DLS Reviews (The Devil's Inn)
"Watkins writes with a real flow for tension." - Steve Stred, Kendall Reviews
"“a heart thumping, balls-to-the-wall thriller with some pretty neat plot twists. Highly recommended.” – Dave Jeffery, author of the A Quiet Apocalypse series

- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2021Another great story! It was a short but memorable ride! The characters jumped off the pages and stayed with me even after I finished the story. I highly recommend this short story and his novels The Original's Return, The Original's Retribution, The Devil's Inn and the short story The Original from Leaders of the Pack.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2023Rhitta Gawr by David Watkins is a super quick read but in just a few pages tells a detailed story. I loved this Welsh folk horror story (as the author called it when we spoke briefly) so much! I enjoy reading stories from around the world to get a little glimpse into others lives, even in horror. The last line of this story throws a punch you aren't even ready for in the best way. This was truly a fun little story that will have you wishing it was just a little longer at the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good little story
A short story that went very quickly. I loved the whole setting and the bit of history that was given. I have never heard of this creature before, I don't know if it's really a local legend or made up for this story, but it could be either. An unexpected revelation at the end brings a few questions. I would have been happy if it was longer and had more victims.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 star character interaction and prose!
A great short story landing at just 25 pages, with believable character interaction and prose to match. The perfect filler for less than an hour to spare with a gore soaked ending to satisfy the blood thirstiest of horror fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic brutal horror story
Watkins delivers a great story - perfect for reading in one siting. I was immediately caught up by the characters, setting and rapid pace. Some lovely dark humour, well developed and believable characters and then a great crescendo of horror and gore. Well worth the cost of the ticket on this Welsh ride. Glad I came across such a gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars A warning to tourists - never underestimate the locals.
Dave Watkin’s vivid description of quintessential tourists, Quin and Philip, had me chuckling. After upsetting the locals and making the reckless decision to climb Snowdon at night, they learn the perils of underestimating local legend. My humour slowly turned to horror (the author’s forte) but I was compelled to read on to the shocking end. A gripping read!

Great short horror story, full of descriptive text and a twist at the end. But it left me wanting more!!
