Sam tipped his head back as I drove us toward the ranch. He was just this side of drunk, and I couldn't stop myself from grinning at him as he let out a little snore.

"Hey, cowboy," I said, giving him a slight shove as I drove through the ranch gate. "Where am I dropping you? Main house?"

He jerked awake and ran a hand over his face. "Nah, I'm bunking in the other house, the small one, with Clint." Motioning to the right, he said, "Take that side road there. Park around back."

I did as he instructed, pulling up behind the house and waiting for him to make a move to get out. When he didn't, I shut off the engine and stared straight ahead at the dark windows of the quiet little place.

"Why'd you try to get me to dance with that girl tonight?"

My stomach lurched at the question. "She seemed like your type."

"You have no clue what my type is."

Blowing out a tense breath, I took off my hat and ran a hand through my hair. "You're a bull rider. You could have your pick of the girls."

"I don't want any of them."

"Right. Distractions are the last thing you need if you're hoping to go pro. Gotta keep your head clear if you're gonna stay on that bull."

He sighed. "I need to stay focused."

"What do you want?"

His hands were clenched into tight fists at his sides, a muscle in his jaw working as he ground his teeth.

"Sammy?" I asked, using a nickname I'd heard from his brothers.

Bright blue eyes found mine, and the flash of panic in them had me fighting the urge to touch him. I opened my mouth to ask if he was all right, but before a single word left my lips, he was on me. Sam Ryker's kiss was frantic and desperate, tongue pressing inside and teasing mine. I liked the way he tasted. I liked everything about him.

My hand slid over the nape of his neck in an attempt to pull him closer, but he went cold, backing away. "Shit." It was just a whisper, but it made everything clear. "Shit. Shit. Shit."

"Sam, what are you doing?"

"I'm not...I've never..."

"It's okay. You're drunk. I'm irresistible." I held up both hands and offered him a slow smile. "Never happened, okay?"

He gripped the door handle and all but threw himself out of the truck, adjusting his hat on the way to the house.

I'd just been kissed by my boss' son. And I sure as hell kissed him back. A man who clearly hadn't explored his sexuality until just now. I wasn't interested in helping him figure out who he was. Not when I depended on my job here at the ranch.

    I absolutely love the entire Ryker Ranch series! I've been waiting for Sam and Tucker's book ever since their past was hinted at in the third book in the series, Ridden Hard, and I was not disappointed.

    Sam Ryker is a complicated man, and he's been hiding a piece of himself from his family, from the world, and most importantly, from the only man he's ever really loved, Tucker Weston. Sam and Tucker fell in love years ago, but Tucker didn't want to hold Sam back from being the rodeo champion that he was destined to be, and he let him go. Little did they realize that Sam would stay away for the better part of the next ten years, and that those years would be filled with so much longing and heartache that neither of them would be whole again until they are reunited.

    Kim Loraine gives us pure joy and love, then rips our heart out, but stitches it back together in such an achingly sweet way. As a listener, was I alternately sweating, swearing and swooning as Sam and Tucker orbited around each other, exploring each other, hurting each other and loving each other. Sam and Tucker both put so many perceived barriers in the way of their relationship that it takes them so long to see what's obvious to everyone (well, obvious to everyone except Sam's brother Tristan, apparently).

    Revisiting each of the prior Ryker brothers, their spouses and Mama Ryker made this listen feel like it wasn't just Sam's homecoming, but mine as well. The family dinners and conversations made laugh out loud as some times, and want to hug someone at others. When Sam comes out to his siblings, I can genuinely say each reaction was exactly what I expected, especially Tristan's reaction. I love that the sibling relationships were given the time and opportunity to heal from Sam's absence, and that Tucker is truly embraced as a part of the family already since he's been with the Rykers for the last 10 years.

    Also included is a novella, Hard Love, that gives us Mama and Papa Ryker's love story. It's a quick read, and really shows how Sandy and George just knew that they were each other's destiny.

    Aaron Shedlock voices a Sam that is so raw, so emotional, so unnerved yet captivated by Tucker, that you can hear the heartbreak in his voice when they part, and then the weight lifting off of his shoulder when they're finally reunited and then public with their relationship. Aaron also revisits each of the other Ryker brothers that he voiced previously and truly recaptures their differences and spirits. Teddy Hamilton gives a Tucker that is pensive, protective, invested and so damn all-in over Sam that you feel his sacrifice, you feel his hurt, and you feel his growl deep in your bones. Stella Hunter is fantastic as both protective mama-bear Sandy Ryker and spunky little sister Sera Ryker. I loved everything about this listen.

    Perfect narrator pairing!
    My first book by Kim Loraine and I picked it up solely on the basis of the 2 male narrators, who happen to be one of my favorite duos! Aaron Shedlock and Teddy Hamilton can do no wrong, at least when it comes to my ears.
    This was a sweet second chance romance- Sam and Tucker were meant to be.
    This is the fifth book in the Sunrise Cowboys series, and although you definitely know you're missing things from the previous books, I feel like there's no issue reading this as a standalone. I did fall in love with the Ryker family so maybe one day I'll go back and read the rest of the series.

    Wow! Sam and Tucker’s second chance love story was everything I wanted it to be. Add in Teddy Hamilton and Aaron Shedlock’s amazing performance and this was an absolutely amazing listen. All the stars. There was the perfect mix of angst and heart, with moments of humor that lightened things. When Sam’s siblings found out he was gay, that scene was priceless and Mama was every bit as amazing as she always is. Tucker and Sam were both so darn stubborn and sweet that you were rooting hard for them the entire time, but also dying for them to just talk and work through the past. Oh man. Also, this story was a bit spicier than the other books and I was here for it. Those two flirted so much.

    Ten years ago, sparks flew between Sam and Tucker and they spent an unforgettable trip alone in the mountains fixing up Sam’s dad’s new cabin. With Sam’s bull riding career on the precipice of taking off, Tucker pushes him away. Sam walks away from the ranch, never looking back but also never forgetting the man who stole his heart. When his bull riding days end, Sam is pulled back to the ranch when his family needs him. However, Tucker is still at the ranch and the fire between them won’t stay stoked for long.

    Man these guys were frustratingly selfless and I loved how their anger simmered into some serious heat between them. What made this story even more special was Aaron and Teddy’s emotional performances that gave so much feeling to the story. And let me just say, I love some angst. This story delivered all the feels, a sweet love story, and really showed why the Ryker family is amazing. I can’t recommend this series enough, especially in audio.

    I’ve loved all of the Ryker series but this is my favourite. A lovely heartfelt romance with the perfect amount of angst, The Ryker family is warm and loving and the scenes between tucker and Sam are hot and tender. The perfect close to the brothers’ stories.
