Rustic Melody Kindle Edition
Can a boy from the country and a guy from the city ever make it work?
Adam Chambers has never seen eye-to-eye with his father and is reluctant to take over the family’s property-development company. To clear his head and work out what he wants to do with the rest of his life, Adam leaves his responsibilities in the city and heads out to see the country.
He isn’t much closer to deciding what to do with his life when he arrives at one of Australia’s largest events, the Tamworth Country Music Festival, and meets Joey Callaway.
Since Joey’s father’s tragic death left Joey the family’s debt-ridden pub, Joey has struggled, desperate to turn the business around and give his mum the life she deserves. A break away from the pressures of running the pub is just what he needs, and a hook-up with Adam is the perfect way to forget about his troubles.
The one-night stand might just be an opening act. If Adam and Joey can follow the music in their hearts, perhaps they can heal each other and create a melody that will last a lifetime.

About the author

Nic Starr lives in Australia where she tries to squeeze as much into her busy life as possible. Balancing the demands of a corporate career with raising a family and writing can be challenging but she wouldn’t give it up for the world.
Always a reader, the lure of m/m romance was strong and she devoured hundreds of wonderful m/m romance books before eventually realising she had some stories of her own that needed to be told!
When not writing or reading, she loves to spend time with her family–an understanding husband and two beautiful daughters–and is often found indulging in her love of cooking and planning her dream home in the country.
You can find Nic on Facebook, Twitter and her blog. She’d love it if you stopped by to say hi.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2016Set in a small university town a couple of hours from Sydney, Australia, this is the first of a series which I gather will center around the restaurant/bar/lodge that ginger Joey Callaway owns and manages with his mum. They are the center of the story, which is why it's so shocking to realize that it's Adam Chambers, a well off young man who is indulging in wanderlust with his guitar in order to find himself--and get away from his domineering father--who is on the cover. (Well, I won't hold it against the author--Adam apparently is a super guitar player with a beautiful voice, if we are to believe Joey).
This one is a sweet, sometimes angsty, sometimes silly, tale of a struggling widow and her ambitious but overwhelmed (by work) son who get lucky in a way when that son, Joey, is sent away by his mum for a little vacation to the regional country music festival up the road a bit. (Yes, there is country music in Australia). There he bumps into Adam, who is contemplating his future which he has decided will not include working for the family real estate development firm because his father is such a bastard, and unethical to boot. Except Adam keeps postponing decisions and can't quite seem to get his act together--until he meets Joey and his eyes are opened and his lower extremities come awake.
This is a scorching, but still somewhat subdued, romance which is viewed mostly from Joey's side, and that is because Adam reveals very little of what he is thinking. Joey is easy to read and he has a plan, and Adam is complex and unsure of himself, but he has lots of plans to sort out first. Thank goodness they start working on plans somewhere along the way.
This is a relaxing, sometimes frustrating, but in the end totally likeable beginning to a series in which one of the MCs in the next book is introduced literally at the end. Getting that sequel when it's published.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2016I really enjoyed he story of the country pub owning Adam & wandering city guy Adam. I think what I liked most about this book was that is authentically Aussie. I have read a few other Australian authors and to me they always seemed to lay the "Aussie" on a bit too thick. I found that Nic Starr had the perfect blend of slang without going overboard. Too me, it read as real, which I loved. It's a sweet tale about family, finding yourself & love. I look forward to reading the remaining books in the series. I happily recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2023A simple story. Boy met boy, fell in love, decided to build a future together. I like stories about building something together - be it a pack, a relationship, a family, or in this case, a future. Good if you are in the mood for something light. Would’ve rated it a four but too much sex (skipped most) for a book that is quite short.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2016I have always wondered what it would be like to be able to jump in your car and just drive off. Go anywhere that took your fancy. Well Adam Chambers is doing just that. He doesn't see eye to eye with his father and wants no part of the family business. Driving around, Adams hopes to come up with a plan for his life.
Joey Callaway is running his father's pub in the small town of Armidale. He is exhausting himself, keeping the pub afloat, but he has no choice if he wants to get the pub to where it can be sold. Life takes an unexpected turn, when Joey spies Adam across the pub. With the backdrop of the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Joey and Adam might just find in each other what they both are looking for.
This was sweet, fun, and romantic. I enjoyed the characters immensely. Being a sucker for anything Australian, I had a great time, and it leaves the reader with a nice afterglow.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2022Adam and Joey both need a change in their lives. It was lovely to see them find what they need in each other. This is my first book by this writer and I am impressed with the characters and emotional depth of the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2016This was a nice, comfy easy read. Something not found often. Joey and Adam meet at a music event and are drawn together while there but then life calls and they go about living their life separately. There was no angst or drama in this book but I think it's probably a good portrayal of many people. When you meet someone you connect with and want a relationship from, how can you get your real life to cooperate.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2019Not some millionaire fantasy, nor a nightmare of vampires and dragons. This is a story with real people living real lives, with difficult decisions and necessary commitments. I wanted to kick Adam's butt several times for his indecisiveness, but his sister and grandmother do a good enough job of that. The Australian setting is realistic, not just big city glitz, though I hope to see more of the countryside and even wildlife as I explore Nic Starr's works.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2016Despite an authentic Australian vibe to the surroundings and dialogue and a promising premise this story really dragged for me. Scenes were bogged down with stilted phrasing and superfluous detail, like every action of each man separately taking a shower (and not in a fun way). I didn't really feel any connection between the two MCs and skipped through the bedroom action which is never a good sign. I didn't feel any real interest in their romance and barely made it to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars with a good plot, not much angst
Adam is trying to decide what to do with his life and is drifting around the country until he meets Joey. Joey is taking a much needed break from his job trying to keep his pub afloat and caring for his mother, who is going blind. As the two men get to know each other, they find themselves reluctant to let each other go. Through the months that follow, they work together and support each other. The story is well written, with a good plot, not much angst, but with lovable characters that you cheer on to the last page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully written, real and lovable characters set in some beautiful parts of Australia. What's not to love!
It's no often I can find works of this genre set in my country, let alone on the same coast I inhabit, so when I do I get "squee" excited! I Love hearing familiar names of places and being able to say "I've been there" or "Yes, that's exactly what that place is like, including the locals," and that's half the joy I get from the book just on its own.
When the story itself turns out to be so beautifully written and full of just downright real and lovable characters who you connect with and just want to hug and say "I know how you feel, mate, and It's all going to be okay." Well, to me it makes a winner of a book.
Nic Starr's first foray into self-publishing, to me, has been a huge success. The product, aside from the captivating story and the promise of more to come in the series, is excellent and a credit to her and her team, and that cover, with Adam, *sigh*
I loved the instant connection between Joey and Adam and had high hopes that they would connect and somehow get to their HEA, somehow. They are just two totally different guys, leading separate lives hours away from each other and tied to commitments to their families. How was is ever going to happen or survive?
A poignant reminder that love always wins if you follow your heart and take those chances. Thanks Nic for that reminder and for putting it into words to share and keep us all warm and fuzzy (even in the hot Aussie summer heat). I know I'll be rereading this one again and again, and eagerly anticipating the next two additions to come. I'm looking forward to revisiting those familiar places and meeting some new guys and hearing their stories.

2.0 out of 5 stars

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely read
I haven't read much Nic Starr, this book was a slow burn, sweet low angst story and I thoroughly enjoyed it, enough that I've bought the rest in the series.
