Ruthless Player: A College Hockey Romance (Westfall U Series) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,363 ratings

Holland
Hockey winger and campus hottie, Cole Davis, might be an MVP with the ladies, but I’m not falling for a player... not with medical school on the line.

With our best friends dating, our forced proximity is inevitable.

That doesn’t mean I have to like it—or the way he makes me feel. Like I’m missing out and there’s more to life than sitting on the sidelines.

It only takes one moment of weakness to remind me why I should have stayed away from Cole.

He might be a ruthless player, but nothing about this is a game.

Cole

Holland Donovan knows exactly what she wants out of life— and it isn’t me.

She’s not looking for any distractions, and I’m a one-night kind of guy, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting her.

From the first electric kiss—I know one night will never be enough.

I just need to convince her that I’m in it for the long haul—this isn’t just about scoring.

On the ice, I’m a pro at blocking shots and stealing passes, but when it comes to Holland the rules change.

I won’t stop fighting for her,
for us, until I make her mine.

Authors Note: A heartfelt college sports romance with an HEA. No Cliffhanger.
For mature readers.

Do what makes you happy.
A fantastic enemies to friends to more book that has the best kind of male lead and although she begins the book driven almost on overdrive the female lead is pretty broken and vulnerable underneath her shield of strength. I really enjoyed Cole and Holland and how their journey through becoming friends for the sake of their own best friends, Wolfe and Rebel, also took them through somewhat of a role reversal. Cole needs to get a grasp on where he is going in life and what he really wants. Holland on the other hand needs to release a little of the constant pressure she puts on her self because of the expectations applied to her by her father. It's a really beautiful friendship with plenty of fun and the best kind of ending I have no intentions of hinting at. And of course R.C. Stephens leaves us with a little teaser for Dec's story..... I will be not so patiently waiting. I have voluntarily left this review.

Cole & Holland’s relationship is a work in progress. They’ve got the chemistry but a scared to act on it. So the rib each other. Cole does have a reputation of being well known on campus. Add in hockey and I was hooked!

They’ve both suffered loss and daddy issues but they communicate more as time goes by. Then, one night there’s plenty of alcohol flowing, a gathering of friends and let’s throw in a slip and slide. Holland has decided to let loose and live a little because she’s been working a degree in the medical field and working. And…let loose she did, but she doesn’t remember much.

Cole is hot, sweet and cares for Holland and wants more, but he knows that he’s got to go slow with her and prove himself. I loved all the characters in this story. Can’t wait for Declan’s book!!

This was the ultimate slow burn. Holland and Cole had been circling each other since their meeting at the beginning of Heartless Player, but I never could have guessed how connected they were. At first glance they seem like total opposites, but the more they get to know each other, the more their lives seem inexplicably connected.

Cole grows exponentially from the beginning of Heartless Player to the end of this book. He starts his journey as a cocky playboy and ends up being a reliable family man. He, surprisingly, falls for Holland first and is the driving force in them taking the next step in their relationship. He really proved himself to Holland and ended up a better man for it.

As much as Cole grew, he also helped Holland loosen up and find herself. They both shared some very similar issues with their fathers and I loved their support of each other. They built a solid foundation for their relationship and it strengthened the connection from attraction to love.

Although I loved this plot, I feel like it ended in more of a HFN instead of a HEA. There were so many unresolved issues with their fathers and Cole’s struggle with being away from Holland. There was also a lot less hockey and I definitely missed that. And it really felt kinda like a cliffhanger with the lead in to the next book in the series. I’m interested to see where Dec’s book leads and hope some of the unresolved plot points are answered.

This is one of those love stories that doesn’t start out the conventional way at all but builds over time as a true friendship blossoms and then turns to love. I loved Holland and Cole watching their relationship grow over the course of the story was truly something special it was natural and organic and when real life issues arise that threaten everything they have been building watching them deal and overcome those issue was completely perfect. These two had to deal with real life issues as well as people that were closest to them and should be supporting them absolutely did not and were actually worse for them but through it all they relied on one another and they trusted one another. This was a definite must read and I cannot wait for more from this author.

I love a good college sports romance and enemies-friend-lover & Slow burn trope 🤍

Cole and Holland were a cute little read 🧡🫂!! It was a really really slow burn, but I liked the chemistry they both had and built. Underneath the cocky player Cole let everyone believe he was. He’s actually a sweet , compassionate, loving person and his Granny was sooo sweet 🫂🥰. They both dealt with death at a young age and was some how connected and their storyline is just sweet, caring, and understanding. Holland you rock girl 💪♥️🩺🥼 she took a lot of curve balls but in the end she was strong and brave!!

I wanted to give this a 4⭐️ , but I felt like If I didn’t get the audio for this book I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as I did. Don’t get me wrong it’s a pretty okay book just couldn’t give it higher rating then a 3.5⭐️. I think it’s the style of writing that’s throwing me honestly, but I will continue the series because I’m invested in the other characters story. Next up is Declan and Poppy 🤓🏒⛸

It can sometimes take us a long road to finally get where we are suppose to be! But the journey along the way has a way of making us grow into the person we are suppose to be! Life sometimes throws us a curveball we aren’t expecting and we have to figure out how you want to handle it!!

Ruthless Player will own your heart. This is a fantastic read that will fill your heart up and even bring a tear or two to your eyes. I loved every moment of this one. Holland and Cole have a lot in common and you will learn all about it as you read. Holland is so strong and you get why she has her trust issues with men. Cole was a bit of a player and just so sweet. I love the banter between Cole and Holland throughout this one as they get to know each other better. Holland and Cole have so much going for them and yet against them but you will watch as they over come and figure everything out. There is such love and growth with this one that you are going to just love. I could not get enough of this one. Holland and Cole are amazing together. You need to read this one.

Cole and Holland’s story got me feeling some type of way! I love their progress! They went from kind of hating each other, then best friends… and lovers.. They got to know each other on a different level and i loved that. Not many stories are like that. Thanks for the great read, i definitely recommend this book!

It was a cute, quick romance and loved the surprising backstory with a bit of fate thrown in there but that ending….would have liked to see things through a bit more and not stop literally mid sentence.
