- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book picks up two weeks after the end of the first book in the Unexpected series. Alex and his former best friend Sam are now a strongly committed couple. They love the life growing inside of Alex. Gerome the baby's Sire (biological father) continues to offer financial assistance, take them to doctor's appointments, but continues to remain a bit distant. Alex and Sam are still shocked that Gerome is a Vampire Prince and despite having several siblings is next in line to become King.
Chris McHart really did a wonderful job of world building regarding Vampires in Munich. You forget the story isn't taking place in an US city. The vocabulary and grammar are excellent. You don't feel like the author lives in Germany. I really commend her. There are quite a few poorly written mpreg stories. This is NOT one of them.
This book is full of danger, excitement, intrigue, parental demands, scheming, fear, and abuse. I didn't read the book summary and was shocked at the reason why Alex needed saving. Sam was devastated and despite his seemingly chilly demeanor Gerome immediately flew into action to help find Alex and their unborn child. Gerome kept Sam focused and from breaking down. It is at this point that we learn why Gerome was so adamant about not claiming his child. We meet Gerome's parents and learn some disturbing customs / traditions among these German Vampires.
When a Vampire, especially those with any money, status, or Royal heritage takes a mate, there is often a large sum of money that changes hands between the parents, which means just what it implies, whoever is purchased is owned by their new mate. Some Vampires are pure, but many have been mixed with Humans, making them more amenable to the circumstances they find themselves in as Mates to both powerful and power-hungry Vampires. These poor Mates can be mistreated, verbally and physically abused, and nothing can be done. It's just the way things have been for centuries.
The dominant mate could be either male or female. Each can be kind or very cruel. The more modern offspring do as they are told, but not without some arguing, begging, resistance, but ultimately they comply. As in Gerome's case he'd been free to find a mate, but since he hadn't, his Royal father, King Harold used the situation with Alex as a strong-arm tactic to get his son's co-operation in meeting a selected candidate Luis. Demanding proof of bonding and consummation before trackers were deployed to locate the scent of those responsible for Alex's disappearance.
Alex is scared, alone, and frightened for his life, as well as, those of his child and boyfriend. He doesn't know where he's at, but he is disturbed by the increasing violence inflicted on the young man that brings him his meals. He prays that the Prince and Sam will come for him. Little does Alex know all that is happening in his absence.
A forced mating, a fake mating, a despondent mate, a happy King, an angry Prince, a frightened but sympathetic guest, and were trackers hired for their keen sense of smell. Espionage, betrayal, sniffing out or tracking down clues. Violent fighting, conniving parents, confusion, panic, gunshots, a bedside vigil, a secret room, and finally a HEA.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a decent start to a new supernatural/paranormal series in this first book it's about two best friends Alex and Sam who where orphaned when they young still teenagers but stuck together as they became adults . It turns out that both Alex and Sam have been in love with each other for a long time but both think that the other only see them as just best friends . All of this takes place in a world where Vampires and werewolves , witches are out to the human race where it's against the law for a man to get pregnant and yeah men can get pregnant . If a man is caught he will be put in prison and his child will be taken from him and put in foster care so this is where our story starts . Alex bored goes out to have some fun and hopefully hook up with a hot guy . But who Alex hooks up with is a Vampire Prince who it turns out can get a man pregnant . Although Alex does use protection the condom breaks so Alex panics because he doesn't know if he's just contracted a sexual disease he has no idea that he's actually pregnant . So after Alex gets a negative result in not having contracted any diseases he goes on with life as usual . But thing's start to change as his pregnancy starts to become obvious and of course that is when the real panic starts . What will happen to Alex if anyone finds out he'll go to Jail his baby will be taken from him Alex can't tell anyone not even his beloved Sam . To make matters worse he had sex with a vampire it was only suppose too be a one night thing how can Alex raise a hard human Hart vampire child when he doesn't know what to expect . Thankfully Alex finally confides in San who's there for him through thick and thin Sam decides to go to the club that Alex picked up the vampire to let him know what happened and get his help . And Sam does find him and it turns out that he is a decent person who helps Alex out any way that he can . He even finds a doctor for Alex to help him stay healthy I have to say that a lot happens in this book but I have to say that for me Sam and the Prince made the best couple although they don't end up together they should have . All in all this was a decent read .

This is a wonderful book that shows exactly what bad parenting looks like! As well as a romance that proves that communication is the key to love lasting, or even getting a foothold, in a relationship.
Tyler goes to Los Angeles based on a comment made by his absentee father when he was young. He wants to become an actor and since his dad is a director he's counting on him to help him break into the business. Unfortunately his dad is less than receptive to the idea.
Tyler's dad preys on his son's desire for success and arranges for him to work for Eric, an up and coming director, who has a copy of a screen test his wife made. This 'chance' encounter turns into much more and then the real fun starts!
You really have to read this book. The author has included a few angst ridden scenes, sexy scenes, twists in the action and one much needed set down. Through it all you'll enjoy the antics of Nova, the wonder dog!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoyed this second book in the "Unexpected" series. We get to see Gerome as something more than a careless playboy.when he potentially sacrifices his own happiness to save Alex and see him and Sam together. (Hopefully he gets his HEA in the third book.) In this book, Alex is kidnapped and there is some mystery and angst as he wonders who kidnapped him and why, and if he will see his child born and be able to live out his life with Sam. There is intrigue, enemies appear, and new friends are made. This book had a little more depth and story than the first one, and it's about more than just Alex and Sam's romance. Definitely worth a read. I am looking forward to more of Gerome in book 3.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI had just read Alex's Surprise and so followed it up with this one. Both books are very good - a quick read but fast paced. I think probably they could be just one book as this literally follows on from the previous one. The steamy scenes is very well written as well, which adds some spice to the story. Definitely worth reading and would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is the second installment of the Unexpected series and seamlessly continues the story between Alex, Sam and Gerome. This story has everything I wish for when reading, there's some drama, some suspense and lots of feelings.
In the first installment Gerome got Alex accidentally pregnant during a one-night-stand. But while Alex's and Sam's relationship evolves, leading to Sam claiming the position as the child's father, Gerome just watches the developments from the sideline and helps Alex and Sam with money and by finding a doctor. This time we get to know a lot more about the background story and the society the story is set in. When the highly pregnant Alex is kidnapped, because somebody found out that Gerome, a vampire prince, is the child's sire, things start to get out of control and he has to inform his father, the king, about the pregnancy and ask him for help. But instead of helping him unconditionally his father uses this information to blackmail him into an unwanted mating with Luis, a man he has never met before and who is anything but willing to enter this mating, but has no say in the matter. I can't shake the impression that Gerome really got the short end of the deal, in order to rescue Alex and his child. To find out if they are able to rescue Alex and the baby in time and how things developed afterwards you have to read this book yourself.
This book answers all the questions one might have had at the end of "Alex's surprise" and introduces some new characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is the 2nd book in this series and it was even better than the 1st book. Sam steps up to support Alex and to be a father to Alex and Gerome's baby. When Alex is kidnapped Gerome has to mate a stranger so his father the vampire king will help him save Alex. The supporting characters are interesting and round out the story very well. This book is very well written and fun to read. I am looking forward to the next book and want to know what happens with Gerome and Luis!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI read the first book with its cliff hanger only a week before this came out, so there was no gnashing of teeth. Saving Alex picks up where Surprise stopped. I love Alex and Sam as a couple. I'm also impressed with Gerome and his support of the couple even when he ends up doing the last thing he wants to do! The ground work has been laid for quite a few more books with some enticing support characters in this book. And to top it all its mpreg, shifters and vampires. All my happy buttons.
