That Cliffhanger

That Cliffhanger
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book. This book's cover is one of the best covers I have ever seen. It made me want to dig into this book. I will say it took me all of about 3 hours to read this entire book, because I could not put it down. I was not sure what I was getting into with this book, besides reverse harem and a bit of bully. Honestly I do not think the boys bullied her too much. Riley is a very strong character. I love how she did not back down at all in the book. This book does have a very tough cliff hanger. Thankfully the next book with be out in September and I will not have to wait another year for the next installment. The way Maya makes these characters come to life is amazing. Each character felt like a person you could have gone to school with. They had depth that some authors can never get with their writing. Maya is quickly becoming one of my top five authors to read.

Killing me with that ending there!!! Okay... I don't even know how to wrap my head around this beautiful new world Maya has brought us too. The cover is absolutely stunning and the whole concept is uniquely captivating. Riley is my soul sister. She loves school supplies, reading and staying out of the drama. Unfortunately, the drama finds her. The Tritons are the three hottest, richest, and best swimmers at school. They have a secret though, and they want Riley to pay for her Father's crimes. Things start to unravel for her... And Riley being awesome and a smart heroine actually goes to the proper resources. She calls her mom. She reports the bullying at school. She filed a police report. She calls the police multiple times. Unfortunately...it doesn't matter but I applaud her for trying. There are a lot of secrets that we are uncovering with Riley as she puts things together.

The Tritons consist of Jax, Blake and Morgan. They are the typical Playboy, rich boy who can get any girl, discards them often and doesn't follow rules. They are not sure what to think of Riley. They are hearing one thing and seeing another and the two do not match up. Some sexual tension as well.

There is ballroom dancing, swim meets, good friends, and yearbook. There are also mean girls, bullies and loneliness. There is even racial profiling and I felt the emotions put into that section. It was heart breaking, but an unfortunate reality. I appreciate the significance though of putting that there. It needs to be felt so maybe it will help people see differently.

There were so many great quotes and references that I laughed a lot, teared up, smiled and even felt the despair. That is the sign of a great writer and a great story. I loved everything, even the ending though it makes me want to screm out! Why are you still reading this? Go and grab this book now!!! Multiple POVs. Mild steam.

This is a great start on a fresh telling of sirens and mermaids. It lacks a little bit of depth and world building as some parts felt rushed and had little detail, but the overall plot is great! I can't wait to see this world expanded and see what happens next.

I am so happy I stumbled upon this amazing read. It has all the angst of a bullies/enemies to lovers dark story with the secret lends of a shifter high school story. Father MIA since she was born, mother now gone, her birthday only a few weeks away while having all the issues of a full grown adult… what is Riley to do when constantly being harassed by the three Triton boys and their pack of bimbos? Time to sink or swim…

This was just straight up bullying. Like high school bullying and literally bc this was set in high school. Which I hate to read, i really got like 10% in and the sunken cost fallacy took over and i finished it. Ill probably even finish the series, but im not going to be happy about it.

The ending was just wow! I don’t like it! They really screwed up! How could they?! I’m totally bawling my eyes out over fictional characters!
  • Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2020
Trauma has kept Riley from the water. But that doesn’t mean she hasn’t noticed the three hot guys in her high school swim team. Suddenly just before senior year they start to notice her too? Something smells fishy....

Riley’s mom has gone on a trip to the Maldives to get away from the publicity of her ex-husband’s negligence that caused the worst oil spill in history. Riley is dealing with the Tritons tormenting her and demanding she get her father to come town. Why can’t they believe that she hasn’t seen him her whole life?

Things are going from bad to worse for Riley but she can’t seem to think straight around Jax, Morgan, and Blake. What’s a girl to do?

I can’t wait to read Submerge and see where Maya Nicole takes us after that crazy cliffhanger!

I am obsessed. I have not read anything like this one before, but I love high school bully books, so I knew I would love it. Due to an oil spill, Riley's world has been flipped upside down. She has been in the background for so long, but now she is the target of the Tritons.

Jax, Blake and Morgan have a huge secret they have been hiding. They are on the hunt for Riley's dad and will do whatever it takes to find his location. They are so hot and cold with Riley, that they have given me whiplash a few times, especially Jax.

I am loving this world and that ending 😱😱😱 I am jumping straight into Submerge!!

I had this book for months sitting snuggly in my TBR Kindle page. I bought it for the cover, because I'm weak like that, but was afraid I would be disappointed in the book, don't ask me why don't know....

So I finally started it and I bought the whole series in paperback half way through, I'm in love with this book and yes it's bully romance I think but not really but yeah really and it's fantasy or paranormal, I don't know it's amazing! We still don't really know what they are and what is happening, but Riley is alone and nobody knows why even at the ending you don't know why and are left with a killer cliffhanger.

    I highly recommend this one.
