4.4 out of 5 stars 1,526 ratings

Missing his dominant hand and half his face covered in scars, Miguel Ruiz can kiss his dreams of a happy future goodbye. He resigns himself to a life of servitude in a badly run club until one day, a tattoo artist in a random bar sees both talent and a future in the scarred artist.

He makes an offer Miguel would be a fool to turn down, and Miguel decides it’s finally time to start living for himself, even with the ten tons of baggage he’s carrying on his shoulders. If anyone in the world can understand secrets, it’s Amit Baqri.

Growing up bisexual, Deaf, and femme in a conservative Muslim family, Amit keeps his true self close to his chest. He’s spent most of his life conforming to others from the way he communicates to the way he presents himself to others, but the weight of it all is starting to crush him. He understands his familial obligations—taking care of his mother is his top priority, and his sisters are second.

But when Amit sets eyes on the gorgeous tattoo artist with one hand and a waterfall of scars, his life is suddenly turned upside down. Will Amit and Miguel find a way to shed the weight of their pasts to be happy together, or will assumptions and expectations leave them forever trapped in a closet of their own making?

Scarification is the sixth book of the Irons and Works series, and contains no cheating with an HEA.

Scarification was such a good book! I loved that we finally got to see more of Amit. He’s been one of my favorite side characters from this series! I also really loved that Miguel and Amit were so into each other from the very beginning, even when they thought they didn’t deserve each other. Another thing that I really liked about this book was the complicated family dynamics that both Miguel and Amit had. It was messy and complicated and real. I really loved that this was a story about two people trying their best to find themselves while also learning to accept the love they deserve. Scarification is getting five stars, and I can’t wait to read the next one!

Both Miguel and Amit both had difficult childhoods and adulthood for different reasons. Miguel grew up in a motorcycle club run by his drugged out dad and paid the price for it when they burned down his house leaving him with scars and missing part of his hand. Amit was deaf but could read lips and wore hearing aids. His family wanted him to be a normal straight hearing man but he enjoyed wearing silk, nail polish, and make up which he had to hide from his family. Both had to overcome difficulties to get what they wanted which was each other.

Amit and Miguel is such a good pairing.

I love them both, but I especially fell for Miguel. It would be so easy for him to be even more closed off after being so badly burned with no one who loved him and no one to trust. But he still opens his heart for Amit almost immediately. And Amit had so much to work through himself with hiding his true self and being hearing impaired.

Since neither of them had a serious relationship before it did make the communication lacking when it was needed when they were apar. But it also made them in some situations more honest and real with each other.

I hope that Finn gets his own book as I really found him interesting.

I have been waiting for this book! And I read it in a matter of hours. I love the way these characters develop and build. This series embraces building family and bonds for the right reasons: love, friendship, loyalty, respect, and understanding.
This is the story of Amit and Miguel, and how they find themselves as they find each other and love. I don't know if Lindsey does a ton of research, or has personally experienced this type of turmoil and life, but she sure as hell writes it well.
I've read every book of hers that I can find, and they never disappoint. If you have yet to dive in to her world, this series will definitely win you over.

This is Book 6 in the Irons and Works series and it felt like the author threw everything but the kitchen sink into this story to make it interesting. But, it didn't work for me. Amit and Miguel were endearing characters but their back stories were given short shrift, giving the story a rushed feeling. Feeling like the author tried to get everything out on paper without a clear plan as to where the book was headed. The Amit alluded to in the previous books in the series seemed different than the man in this book which made me a bit confused. And the inclusion of a cross dressing fetish was off-puttng. This book, to me, was the weakest of the series.

The book was a whole lot sweeter than I expected, based on the description of Miguel. The tough guy-femme guy dynamic was great, however I think it could have been further explored, particularly in reference to sex, instead of being just a couple of tossed off sentences. (G. L. Carriger's character of Tank in her San Andreas shifters series is a good example of the tough guy submissive character.)

I like that she has "tics" for some of her characters, like Wyatt rubbing his eyes, but by the fourth book, it was getting repetitive to see each character drag their hand down their face when tired, frustrated or stressed.

Overall the book and the series were highly enjoyable, populated by interesting and realistic characters; it was well paced and while there was not a lot of action, there was enough to carry the stories.

Again cutting up your heart as soon as you start to read it. This series is absolutely amazing. All the characters. All the backgrounds. I love them all. This one was intense drama from start to end. So much going on I literally sobbed multiple times. Amit and Miguel together just worked so well.

This is a modern mm romance, the sixth book in a series that MUST be read in order. I have been wanting Amits story from the very first time we meet him in book one and this author has exceeded my expectations! Some scars are so clearly seen but can also mask the internal scars on the soul. I loved reading their story, it’s ups and downs; such a beautiful story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just a brilliant read

This was just wonderful. A wonderful plot, loads of ups and downs and so well written I couldn’t put the story down.
I love this series and each story adds more to the group of guys.
Each of them is to some degree an outcast or misfit in the world, but the strength of care and love that is built is wonderful - and as always, the chemistry was off the charts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice novel!

This is a great story! You get pulled into the story quickly and commiserate with Mitchel having to suffer the reaction of people seeing his scars and part of his right hand amputated and get tired explaining how it happened but keeps being respectful nonetheless. I really loved how Amit found the strength to become who he wanted even if it was by being beautiful wearing makeup and sometimes skirt. They both found each other sexy and beautiful! Great story! I really liked how we discover that silent support is not enough in some situations and can cause a party to fear being themselves in all situations. Even more that learning to sign is essential to support deaf people and respect their need to not always adapt or conform to majority. Great story! Love the unconditional support from Iron and Works team and their welcome to new members of their support group/ friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Biker trifft Barkeeper ...
Reviewed in Germany on July 7, 2020
