Gemma Ray should have a PhD in procrastination. Her book on self discipline (that she had no self discipline to write) continues to top the best seller charts helping people develop their own self discipline strategies. Gemma writes from the heart for real people who need a hand pulling their finger out to take action and realise their potential.

Gemma has written for a number of publications, newspapers, blogs and businesses before realising a childhood dream of becoming an author. She writes "the books I need to read myself" and packages her research in a personal, fun account that is easy to read and even easier to implement.

Self proclaiming to "Not always having all my s*&% together", Gemma's down-to-earth delivery and style makes you feel like you have a friend between the pages giving you simple advice over a coffee. She continues that support for her readers through her online coaching courses and Facebook accountability groups, giving readers direct access to her no-nonsense witty retorts that makes accountability a whole lot of fun.

Join Gemma on a refreshingly honest, powerful and inspirational journey of self love, self belief and self trust through her books that will make you sit up and take action.

Gemma is a BBC Radio presenter, best selling author, marketing and PR specialist and always the most filthy person in a WhatsApp group chat. She should probably establish the first chapter of Oversharers Anonymous, is the world's worst cook and the clumsiest person you'll ever meet.

Procrastination is a killer of good ideas and productivity, and there are many different books, blogs, talks etc that concentrate on single paths to success in both beating it and taking onboard some accountability through self discipline. What this book does differently is avoid concentrating on single area outcomes (like solely work or personal) and looks at self-discipline from a personal level, applied in any number of areas ranging from your home life to getting a start up off the ground. Backing those ideas up with clear examples from different walks of life.

If you want to re-evaluate how you do or don’t get things done, take a look at this frank walk through of being honest with yourself, learning to plan, setting a visualizing goals and in the end, reviewing and celebrating success (and learning from failure along the way). Don’t worry about being blinded by pseudo-science or unrealistic ideals, starting at ground level on realistic goals seems to be a theme.

Shame about the Donkey Sanctuary though ;)

After spending much of the past year pouring into myself and really trying to make changes in my life, I felt the need to seek more help outside of myself. I love the practical aspect of this book, and I'm excited to implement habits that will lead to actions that continue to lead me in the right direction. Thank you Gemma for such a lovely book and for being so relatable in the way you communicate through your words.

Sometimes the smallest changes can have the biggest impact. However, change can be hard. We are creatures of habit. If you are ready to do something different in life, whether it’s personal and/or professional I suggest reading Gemma’s book. She offers clear guidance and simple ways to start to move forward, plan bigger goals and stick to that plan. Really interesting and actionable read! Thank you Gemma!

The concepts are fresh. Loved the ‘why’ in addition to the ‘what.’ Made me feel more motivated to take action!

Okay I'm not going to lie, I've only just started reading this book. With only being like 15% of the way through, I already want to pull out my journal, sticky notes, and really look at things I can improve in my life. Why just "live" life? I have goals! I have dreams! I'm looking forward to what the rest of the book says if the first 15% has me looking at improving particular aspects of my life already!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pulls everything together to help you bring self-discipline into your life in a tangible way
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 22, 2020
I have really enjoyed reading this book and Gemma provides great supportive resources alongside it to help you change your ways. Change is incredibly hard for the majority of people - it takes a real motivation to want the change and consistent action to make these changes part of your way of life. This is why most people fail. After realising that if I wanted to be a more productive person I HAD to change I found this book to help me. A bit like Gemma, I am one of those 'stuck in my head' type people. I feel like I have great ideas - but they never get anywhere because the ideas and plans stay in my head. After reading this book I feel really determined to get out of my head and start making these ideas come into reality. I am starting little by little to bring in new practices (particularly in my morning routine) that little by little are helping me turn each day into more and more productive ones. I know how to set goals now, how to break down my time and get a grip on how long things actually take me vs. how long I think they are going to take me in my head (particularly tasks and chores that don't bring my an awful lot of enjoyment in the moment). There are lots of nuggets of information in this book - it really just pulled it all together for me. And I am really grateful that Gemma got her act together and found the self-discipline to write this book. Thank you :)

I don’t know why I went for this book when I did, however I am so glad I did.

If like me you are reaching out for the one that is going to help overcome your imposter syndrome personality, gain clarity and confidence to take your first steps to the life that you really want, and whilst doing so, instantly start to get feedback from everyone around you, that something amazing has changed in you, then this is the book for you too.

Gemma’s writing style is infectious. She’s like the sister I never had, talking to me like I’ve lived with her all my life. She’s easy to read, very entertaining and well, if you get what she says (as I do) and then simply go out and try what she suggests, guess what? Things start to happen.

I like to do one thing well, before taking on too many other things, and so by simply concentrating on going to bed a little earlier and waking an hour earlier to complete my new routine including training everyday, not only am I now nearly a stone lighter after 2 weeks, but everyone around me thinks I’ve gained Superpowers! I’m so bloody on it I think everyone thinks I’m taking something illegal.

I honestly can’t wait to focus on the next area of improvement, and guess what, this serial procrastinator is already committed to that step this week. Most importantly for me, I am 100% clear it will happen, and not afraid to fail anymore. I certainly won’t fail because I didn’t give it a go.

For much of my relatively successful life I have had a nagging feeling that something was missing, not right, and I didn’t deserve to be what I am . . . Not anymore.

Gemma you are truly a star and I would wholeheartedly recommend this read to anyone that this review resonates with.

Treat yourself, get ready for a new you and JFDI!

One of those books that piggybacks on the actual value brought by other well known publications like "getting things done" and "atomic habits" among others.

I read (and liked) in full Step 1. In Step 2 she talks (whines) exclusively about her past overweight issue, but totally disconnected from the title of the book which makes it eligible to dismissal. She even mentions that she was recommended to remove this chapter and I fully agree.
Chapter 3 is almost tolerable, but from this point forward until Step 10 I only kept reading because I paid for the book.

This is pretty much a random collection of concepts from other publications explained in her own words over longer-than-necessary chapters.

My advise: get the book if this is the first and only book you have read on the topic, otherwise just pick another title that is not piggybacking on the work of other authors.

I enjoyed reading this book. This book motivated me to continue what I already started, and at the same time to focus on other aspects of my life. Some of these steps I had already implemented in my life, but not all the tips were right for me. Each one of us is unique, and it is normal that not all tips fit. One thing I did not like, there are too many references to the same website with resources that can be downloaded.(This is the main reason I gave you only 4 stars.)
You did a great job writing this book, keep it that way.
I recommend this book to those who do not know where to start, and most importantly how not to get overwhelmed.
It is also a good book for those who need the motivation to follow the already established plan.

A wee bit background before i delve into this review:

So I've been overweight most of my life, I'm the classic "stone for ever year" type of person.
Long story short, with the power of some discipline and just being real with myself I have managed to go from 18 stone to just under 16 in the space of 6 months (nice, steady weight loss). I have now set a new goal of getting below 15st in 3 months.

Throughout I have been keeping a weekly check-in journal. When check-ins were mentioned in the book I couldn't help but grin. The book is very human, it almost feels like the author is trying to have a conversation with the reader which is what i needed - someone to give me a good talking to :D

I feel like the book has allowed me to simply grow up. My weight is coming down, my house is cleaner than ever, I have more mental clarity than ever and it's all down to getting real with myself and having discipline to follow things through.

I'm rambling but I just felt compelled to upload my story in this review and hope that it inspires someone that is maybe in a rut to purchase this book along with a few others, use the wisdom gained to finally grow up. As a 30 something male, i feel I am finally growing up and books like this help a ton.
