Wes Archer is gay.
His friends and sister accept him without judgment and love him for having the strength to live his true life. The band and his friends have become an escape from the misery of living with a homophobic father, and he hates to think how things would be without them in his life.
When he meets Wyatt, a surfer, down at the beach, their relationship becomes another welcome distraction from life at home, and he finally sees a future away from his parents.
But just as Wes starts to grow in confidence, an unprovoked attack threatens to derail his courage and determination.
Can the band, his sister, and Wyatt show him that he can move beyond his past, and toward a happy and bright new future, where Rare Breed reach for the stars?

About the author

M. B. Feeney is an army brat who finally settled down in Birmingham, UK with her other half, two kids and a dog. She often procrastinates by listening to music of all genres and trying to get ‘just one more paragraph’ written on whichever WIP is open; she is also a serious doodler and chocoholic. Writing has been her one true love ever since she could spell, and publishing is the final culmination of her hard work and ambition.
Her publishing career began with two novellas, and she currently has multiple projects under way, in the hopes that her portfolio of what have been described as “everyday love stories for everyday people” will continue to grow. Always having something on the go can often lead to block which eventually gets dissolved by good music and an even better book.
Her main reason for writing is to not only give her readers enjoyment, but also to create a story and characters that stay with readers long after the book is finished, and possibly make someone stop and think “what if … ”

- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2021I’ve loved this series from the very beginning. I love how you get almost the same story but from different perspectives. It shows how different these band members are outside of what brings them together.
I always wanted to know if Wes story. From the first two books it seemed he had it the hardest and certainly did. Wyatt was the brightest in his life he needed. He deals with a tough attack which unfortunately we see all to often in real life. But he comes out of it stronger then ever with the support of his boyfriend and amazing friends.
Another great one by my favorites MB Feeney.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2022In The Senior and the Surfer, we return to the Rare Breed world created by M B Feeney. This time, for Wes’ story, the band’s drummer.
Right off the bat I must applaud Feeney. The Rare Breed world, set in Los Angeles, is one world, one story, and yet the author has been able to present us with three individual tales to date. As a reader, I’m not fond of recapping the same scene over and over. As an editor, I’ll pull my authors up on this. Feeney, however, has manipulated this series with style and grace. While these books all follow basically the same timeline, there are enough nuances and unique scenes to make each story stand alone as Feeney tackles various hard-hitting subjects of adolescence. And while each is an amazing read on its own, they deliver so much more of an impact when read all together.
My understanding is that The Senior and the Surfer was Feeney’s first full dive into the m/m world after tip-toeing around the subject in earlier books. Her handling of the subject matter was beautifully done, and I was easily won over by Wes and Wyatt’s budding relationship. I cheered their good times and lamented their hard times, falling in love with the idea of them.
I admittedly don’t usually give more than 4 stars on a review, but the Rare Breed series has been 5 star all the way for me. Each and every book has been an absolute delight to read. Thank you, Ms Feeney, and write on!

5.0 out of 5 stars It can’t be over!
I laughed, I cried, I got angry, I rejoiced - so many emotions were felt during my first read through of this book and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I haven’t felt this connected to a series of books in such a long time and I can, without a doubt, confirm that Wes Archer is one of my favourite protagonists of any book/series I have ever read and is a character I deeply care for (along with Ash and Chris, of course).
I was in no way prepared for the series to end and I can only hope that this isn’t the last we hear of the Rare Breed boys!
Seriously, if you haven’t picked up your copies yet, I suggest you do so! You won’t be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Now its time for Wes!
As with the previous two books for this series, this is basically the same story but this time told from Wes perspective.
Wes like his band brothers doesnt have an easy home life, having his parents unable to accept him, and his lifestyle isnt the best
He just wants to be happy and fall in love, but it happens to be with a man not a woman.
When he bumps in hot surfer Wyatt one day he could never dream how much his life would change.
Loved this friendship group, the way they are together is fantastic and just what youd want in a friend.
Was an enjoyable series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love these boys
I love these books, and the boys, so I was delighted to see the third instalment on my kindle. Wes is a sweetheart, and watching him grow from timid and unsure to confident and in control of his anxieties was a delight. He shows super strength, and the book really shows the reality of life for guys like him. I loved the realism - too often things don't get wrapped up in little bows and that's life. I'm glad Feeney respected that and showed a real outcome.
