The Silent Road: Enemies to Lovers MM Romance Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 67 ratings

Marriage, parenting, and making ends meet is a long road to haul─and I've screwed it all up.

My ex thinks I'm a deadbeat. My daughter has lost all faith in me. As a long-haul truck driver, I haven't been there for either of them. Now that I’ve been caught driving my rig without a license it proves them right.

Since I'm on probation, I've been forced to take a co-driver on the road with me and prove to him that I can safely pass my commercial license, even though I've been doing this for a decade.

This is my last shot to continue with my company and prove myself to my broken family. I’ve missed a lot but I’m going to make it up to my daughter. I’m not going to blow it. Not this time. I’m going to get the money my daughter needs. There’s a financial bonus in my future if I can talk Jake, my co-driver and probationary instructor, into hustling his laidback, rule-following ass into finishing the job early.

As Jake and I travel together, the long drive and miles ahead of us bring us closer than I'm comfortable with─or am I?

Suddenly, I'm feeling things I never thought possible with another man. Could Jake be the "ride or die" I've been yearning for my entire life?

Is the road less traveled the one I've always needed?

Am I scared?

Hell, yes!

This author never disappoints. I have read many of her books, and every time I find a little something that I love. I do enjoy male male romances, so that is rigged in her favor. But even her other stories that are not male male I still like. This story has depth and is interesting. There are exciting events and lots going on almost from page one. The characters have lots to overcome and I was never bored. I truly wish every book I picked up, that I loved it as much as I like this author. If you're looking for a good read that's male-male, pick up the story.

I enjoyed reading this trucking story of love and first time.
The story was engaging from the start. This is my first time reading a book about trucking and I like it. I can imagine how hard it is for gay guys to do this job because of the nature of the industry with dangerous people around. I hope they are ok out there.
Anyway I love the way Dan finally got his courage to go for it.

This was my first time reading this author's work and I'm very glad I chose to read this one. This is a good story that has its emotional ups and downs. It was definitely worth reading though.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

Loved the storyline, great characters, up and downs throughout the storyline, but kept my attention throughout the book. I give this book 4 stars.

I loved, yes it's worth repeating, I loved this story. It was written with heart, humor, and an eye towards learning that love can be found where you least expect or even want it.
Whether or not you read mm romance, I hope you give this one a shot. Oh, did I tell you the story even has great dog in it? Yep, it has everything an awesome book needs.

The Silent Road: Enemies to Lovers MM Romance

There was something about this book that drew me in when I first saw it. Not sure if it was the troupe because of the crazy times we're currently living in or it was the cover the drew me in. Whatever the reason I'm so glad I read it.

Dan hasn't lead the most charmed of lives, but he had a decent one. Was married and has a daughter who he loves but he was happiest when he is driving his truck. Then he is stuck working with Jake, much to his dismay.

Jake is very open about who he is with no apologies. It has caused him some problems through the years but he is still who he is and it doesn't matter what others think.

They make the least likely couple once Dan admits to himself his attraction but they work well as a couple. That is until Dan gets stuck in his head.

I love these two and looked forward to reading the second book. Ms. McKibben is a new to me author and my only regret is not finding her sooner.

I wasn’t sure what to expect going in since this is a new-to-me author. The book has a lot of promise but I had difficulty getting into it. Seeing things from Jake’s POV would have enriched the overall experience. I suppose you can say it does its job as art since it definitely made me feel… something. Mostly, uncomfortable, I guess. Especially with everything going on in the world at the time I am writing this review. The blatant bigotry was hard-hitting.
As it is currently, I’m giving it 3 stars, but don’t write it off. Perhaps using some sensitivity readers for feedback and revamping it a little would polish it. It has the potential to be something really great.

“The Silent Road” is an exceptional read that delves into a challenging subject with remarkable sensitivity and depth. The narrative is beautifully crafted, offering a storyline that is both engaging and thought-provoking. This book exemplifies the adage “don’t judge a book by its cover,” as it presents a complex and evolving character journey that is both compelling and insightful. The author’s ability to depict the characters’ growth and their journey towards understanding is truly commendable, making this a must-read for those seeking a profound and enriching literary experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Trucker Romance

I am not going to lie, based off the beginning, I wasn’t sure I would be able to get past the first few chapters. I did not like Dan, and my dislike was enough that I almost stopped reading. But based on a few interactions with Jake, I was just curious enough to keep reading, and I am so glad I did. I’m still not sure I like Dan, but he at least grows as a person and learns from his experiences. Jake was fun, though I am not quite sure what attracted him to Dan. I absolutely adore Mimi!

This story is not really about Dan and Jake’s relationship, it is more about Dan facing his prejudices and learning to be a better person. In the end, I enjoyed this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Long-haul trucker MM romance, with angst and emotion.

    3 Stars

The Silent Road by S.N. McKibben is a long-haul trucker MM romance with plenty of emotion, complicated family dynamics, anger, angst, a sexual awakening/discovery of sorts, a quest for redemption, and drama it had a bit of a Big Rig “Brokeback Mountain” feel to it all.
The characters are complex with their own personalities, quirks, and flaws. I found it hard to connect with them, especially Dan- which made it hard to invest in them or the story. We ‘hear’ the story from Dan’s POV, which I think added to my frustration because I didn’t really ‘like’ him much, and causing more discontent. I think if we got to see the story from another/other perspectives, then that would have given the story an added element interest and added much more depth, balance, and ‘texture’ (for me).
I don’t know a lot about long-haul trucking, so that part of the story was definitely interesting. Also, the difficult family dynamics and the quest for redemption added extra angst and emotion to the story, as well as the complications that came with the sexual awakening/feelings that develop/arise along the way.

    Happy Reading…

    Thank you, S.N. McKibben
