I’m always snapping up audios and hoping for the best. I’d encountered Amanda Meuwissen’s name a couple of times and so was intrigued to grab this book. I wasn’t disappointed.

Gael is a mob boss – not my favorite type of hero. But he’s also gay and takes care of his people, so that – to a certain extent – redeems him. Silhouette is a burlesque performer who also does more interesting private shows. Where he exposes more of himself.

The boss is fascinated by his new employee, but he wants to know more about the man. Turns out he’s been being taken advantage of for years by the man Gael’s replacing. A man he very much wants to hunt down. And he thinks Silhouette might just hold the key to the other man’s location.

Silhouette is fascinated by his new boss. A man who isn’t out to get everything he can. A man who isn’t going to keep him like an indentured employee with no free will. Gael offers him freedom. It’s an overwhelming offer, but one he slowly begins to embrace.

Then evil forces nearly drive them apart. But I got my happy ending, so I was thrilled.

Here’s where I move on to talking about the audio itself. Holy crap! There’s an original song. And, wow, it’s a catchy tune. And Kevin Earlywine’s performance of the song stuck with me. I found myself humming it later in the week. I loved it.

So you have to snag this audio however you can. I loved it and am so glad I got the chance to listen.

I’m reviewing the audio version. This is the first I’ve listened to/read by this author. It is a short story and after fighting my way through it I wished it was much longer.
My complaint is with Authors Direct. This is the worse app I’ve used for audio. I could not access the book on my Samsung phone. I sent an email trying to fix it and ended up days and days going back and forth repeating the same thing over and over again and never did get any help there. The app somewhat works on my tablet. The problem is it keeps stopping. But at least I finally heard the whole thing.
The story is impressive. The author has managed to make a short story complete. Usually there are so many unanswered questions in short stories or they are really a lead into or middle of a series.
I liked both of the mc’s. Gael, I feel, is more of a business man that what I expect a mob boss to be. His willing to be honest and fair with Nicky showing how human he is. His attraction to Nicky and his treatment of Nicky impressed me.
Nicky is so innocent in some ways and yet so knowledgeable in others. He knows how to use his talents and also is smart enough to acknowledge that he wants more.
I really enjoyed the song and feel the voice of Kevin Earlywine added immensely to the story. I plan on checking out more of his work.

    Audio review
    Story 4 stars
    Narration 5 stars

For a very short story I enjoyed this. The characters were great and the couple had great chemistry together. It was sweet and sexy with some mystery drama and slight suspense. I definitely was into the story from start to finish. Leaving off a star because I enjoyed this couple and storyline so much it would have been wonderful to get a full length more in depth story but it was definitely a great listen. This was a new to me author and I would definitely read more from them.

The narrator did a fantastic job. He had a pleasant reading voice and expressed all the emotions and brought the story to life. He did different voices for each of the characters that suited them IMO. There is alot of singing parts thrown in throughout the story and the narrator did a great job. Was it amazing, perhaps not but not too many narrators have to sing so I got to give him credit for doing it and doing it well.

This story is really poorly developed. I realize it is a short story, and I am not sure why it was even made into an audiobook.
My only guess is because it wanted to make us listen to a short show-tune-like song that we were subjected to at the beginning. It was terrible, and the time could have been better used to add more information to the story.

I received an audiobook ARC of this book, at my request. My voluntary review includes opinions about the story by Amanda Meuwissen and the voice performance of Kevin Earlywine.

The length of the story really lends itself to preventing the mafia storyline from getting dark. Abusive behaviors from the past are discussed, but not belabored. The reader is privy to abuse victim Silhouette’s opening up under Gael’s empowering patience. If a story with a mafia plot line can be called sweet, this is the one. It’s an enjoyable read with a satisfying ending.

There’s a song at the beginning. I didn’t like how it was integrated into the story.

Kevin Earlywine’s performance as narrator is terrific. He has a wonderful emotional depth, even for such a micro-sized story.

I enjoyed this short listen and the gentle way Gael helped Silhouette come out of his shell after the horrific grooming he experienced at the hands of Mr. X. The climax is dramatic and a bit violent (Mr. X is a mob boss after all), but the ending is satisfactory. Part of the story includes Silhouette singing, and I have to say I didn't care for the way it was inserted into the story. That's just me. YMMV. Overall, a good listen.

I received a free copy of the audio and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Amanda did a great job at packing a lot in in a short story. A mob takeover brings mob boss Gael to a new property he has acquired - a male strip club. There he witnesses the performance of the club’s main attraction, the mysterious Silhouette. There’s suspense, romance, healing, revenge, steam. Gael is a sort of white Knight to Nicky. Yes he’s a mob boss, so he’s not an innocent, but he saves Nicky in a lot of ways. I’m very happy with how the ending confrontation went. Nicky deserved that. Definitely worth the read.

Kevin Earlywine is not my favorite narrator. His inflections are…an interesting choice. It didn’t totally take away from the story though.
