The Orphan's Silver Spoon Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,113 ratings

Doxie Shaw suffers bitterly in an orphanage in Victorian London. As she struggles to survive, she tries to comfort the younger children, but her kindness quickly costs her the only home she's ever known.

Thrown into the streets at the tender age of nine, Doxie's gentle heart tries to keep on loving and hoping in a world that seems bent on destroying her. Faced by one trial after another, Doxie becomes acquainted with the depth of cruelty in her city. Struggling to hold onto hope, Doxie's only evidence she's ever been loved is the silver spoon that was tucked into her rags when she was left at the orphanage as an infant. But what does it mean? Where did she and the silver spoon come from? Will she ever know who her family really is?

And can she find solace in the sweetness of Owen Green's gap-toothed grin? Will he be able to help her find the answers her tender heart seeks?

Dixie was an infant when she was left at the door steps of the orphanage. She was left with a silver spoon the only connection she had to who her mama was and the struggle she goes through to find who she is and who her mama is.

This was an awesome read from an author whom I never read. I felt so sad for Dixie and all the struggles and pain she goes through in hopes that one day she will find the owner of the silver spoon and who Dixie really is.

I highly recommend this book especially if you love Victorian romance.

This is a good book to read straight thru. It is sad in parts . You can fall in love with the main character, and others you want punished. The ending was good.

This was stealth of a nine year old left as an infant on the steps of orphanage. Although unloved and unwanted Doxie never gave up hope of belonging to a family. That hope was inspired by a silver spoon found with her. When she is kicked out of the orphanage, she goes looking for the mother she is sure really loved her.

Read,I really enjoyed this book and ending is really good. I do wish it would have told what happened to the lady who took her in after she left orphanage and her children. When she left to go find food and was thrown into the workhouse the tiny little one was dying. Did she live. This is something that I need to know..

This was an incredible book. Doxie was left at the orphanage as a newborn with a silver spoon with her blanket. She kept that spoon with, because it gave her hope that she was once loved. I highly recommend this book. Faye Godwin is an incredible and talented writer.

If you are looking for a 'feel good' read, this isn't it. But, it tells about a sweet little girl who was left in an orphanage when she was a baby with only a silver spoon in the rags wrapped around her. She was bullied and treated poorly while there and finally was told to leave when she was still too young to be on her own. A kindly woman who had several children took her in to care for her twins while the two older children were out begging, and the mother was also trying to find food. One of the twins was ill so she took them to a doctor that cared for the poor without charging them. He told her both children mainly need plenty of food. She stole a tray full of bread but a policeman caught her and planned to take her to prison. The baker begged him not to as she was only a child so she was left a the workhouse. She lived there until she was grown but never lost her sweetness and care and protection for the younger children. Will she ever get out of the workhouse? Will she ever find Owen, the boy she met in the orphanage that watched out for her? Read it to see and to know how children were treated in Victorian times.

Simple book. It would ship 4 years at a time. No depth to the characters. Kept waiting for the storyline to begin. Disappointing.

This was a story that kept me intrigued all the way through. I like to read Victorian stories and this one took me back to the era. I find it hard to believe just what our ancestors had to go through and yet, managed to keep hope with them. Many times the main character had me in a gasp as she tried to find those who loved her but were forced to abandon her. A great novel, for anyone who loves this era
