A Murderous Past
Father Gian Sabbatini is a priest who can’t outrun his sins, but he tries to avoid his family and their mob ties. He does all the good he can for the people of St. Loren, Louisiana, to make up for the criminal life he once led. Gian’s family loves to remind him that no matter how many people he helps, there is still blood on his hands, and on the money in the church coffers.

An Angel Who Needs a Rescue
Phoenix Crawford doesn’t know who he is anymore. Due to seven years of daily abuse, he only lives in the moment to focus on staying safe. After a fight with his partner, Phoenix is left homeless and has no idea how he will survive with no money and nowhere to go. Healing Devotion
Phoenix loves his new life and opens up to Gian, despite the mental health issues he is dealing with, and it doesn’t take long for Gian to consider leaving the priesthood because Phoenix makes him want a relationship. Kind and quietly helpful, Phoenix goes about his days assisting Gian at the church in between rebuilding his life. But Gian’s family catches up with him—the mob never lets a man go. As Phoenix delves into his repressed memories he needs more help than ever, but is Gian up to the task of keeping Phoenix safe? And what if the person Phoenix needs to be saved from is Gian?

An emotional story. A sweet character who was the victim of extreme domestic violence. His new Daddy trying to be pious but giving into love. He was from a big Italian Mafia family. I loved these characters and this story. If domestic violence is a trigger, then skip this story. It is a story of love. I won't forget these guys.

This story was nothing like I had expected. I absolutely loved Gian and Phoenix right from that start, but man, what happened to Phoenix killed me. I honestly was hoping Sloan would show up and save him somehow, it was that bad.

Gian found Phoenix on the doorstep of his church. Yes, its Father Gian. Phoenix was basically kidnapped at 19 and was kept in the house as a prisonor by a horrible person. No one knew what happened to him and while he is in his late 20's, he acts a lot younger due to this abuse.

So anyways, Father Gian and Phoenix have instadaddy feelings, even though Gian is a priest. It only took 2 days for Daddy Gian to get a bj and 7 months for outright sexytimes. Also going on was the fact that Daddy Gian was a part of the mob but was trying to do good after a drunk driving accident. I am not sure if the million other characters will be getting stories, but there was Tomos and Gian's best friend Jericho - and his other best friend Father Malachi and the mob boss Roc.

Also, Sloan and his pet showed up in here, as did a heck of a lot of other mob families that apparently Sloan owns. I am not sure if any of these people already have books as I am still back reading the New Gothenburg world.

I enjoyed this one but my only nitpick was the lack of darkness? lack of soul crushing pain of breaking vows? I am not sure how to exp!ain it, but this was almost too sweet. Still totally worth reading though.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book with Father Gian and Phoenix. Gian has a mafia family that he left for the priesthood after a terrible accident. Phoenix is a young man who is in an abusive relationship until he is finally kicked to the curb and ends up at Father Gian's church. Phoenix needs so much guidance and decides that Gian is his new daddy since he took him in and is helping him but Gian is hiding his past. As they get to know each other more, Gian has to fight the urges that Phoenix brings out of him but eventually he gives in and they get up to some naughty business at the church. This book will keep you turning the pages with murder, family, exes, bikers, secrets, and steamy hot sex set in Louisiana. I highly recommend this book.

Bad guys doing good, sweet things (even murder) for those the love is always a wonderful read!!

My heart went out to Phoenix and all the abuse he went they with Perry and I loved that he found a good man to help him work it all out. Father Gian was tested, tempted, and failed when it came to his calling but Phoenix was worth it.

I enjoyed seeing glimpses of Sloan and Conall and the connections to the series. I am hoping for to more to come from this family in St. Loren. Excellent story.

I picked this up on a whim as an Amazon recommendation. I’m so glad I did. This book his just the right blend of dark and light to create the perfect gray world. I’m definitely interested in seeing if any of the secondary characters will be getting their own stories too

I loved this! This was so deliciously amazing! I loved it so much. It was dirty and sexy and heartbreakingly good. You could feel the pain of the MCs but also the healing too. It was beautiful to watch. There were so many new characters introduced that I can’t wait to hear their stories!

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this book before I started simply because I am not a huge fan of priests as romantic leads as they struggle to put their personal needs ahead of how the church wants them to lead their lives. I gave it a try because I am a huge fan of both authors and I wanted to at least give the book a fair chance. I’m glad I did because the book was nothing like I was imagining and I guess I should have had faith that a morally ambiguous character from these authors, especially one from a mob family, would not be struggling as much as I feared. I did find myself wanting to see Gian leave the church for more reasons than just falling for his sweet boy Phoenix but I did really enjoy the book and the relationship between Phoenix and Gian. The side characters were interesting and the authors apparently have more books planned in the future for the Sabbatini family and their acquaintances, so I am looking forward to reading those in the future.

I’m reviewing the audio edition. This starts out intense and stays that way through the whole story.
Father Gian is a priest who is trying to make up for his past mistakes. He is part of a family with mob ties and can’t get away from it no matter what he does. One night he finds a man sitting on the steps of his church and takes him in. This is the start of a complete upheaval in his life.
Phoenix has been abused for years. He is in a relationship that started completely different than what it is now. His life has completely under the control of the abusive Perry. He is so completely mistreated physically and mentally but yet he keeps trying to do better. Finally, Perry pushes too far and kicks Phoenix out. Phoenix finds his way to the church where he is helped by Father Gian.
While Father Gian tries to do the right thing helping Phoenix, it gets harder and harder when Phoenix keeps putting him in the role of daddy. The path this relationship takes is rocky. Phoenix has no self confidence and Father Gian tries to help him but in that help Father Gian finds himself attracted to Phoenix. At the same time Father Gian’s family tries to force him to help them. The way this all gets worked out and the way Phoenix finds himself again held me captive till the end.
The narration by Conan Kennedy representing these characters making this story completely believable.

I was hook from the very start! The way Phoenix was treated got me right in the emotions! He was like a lost puppy. He just wanted to please and he was treated so poorly and he misguidedly thought it was his fault!
So glad he found Gian. I was a little sceptical at first with Gian being a Priest, but I can't resist a big, rough protective Daddy (swoon). Plus Gian ticked a few other boxes too 😉, Mafia men am I right (double swoon)!
I loved this book so much, definitely an instant favourite. Do have to give a shout out to Conan Kenndey for a fantastic job on the narration, you sir were a pleasure to listen to ❤. Hope to hear more from you in the future.

Very nice story. First time I ever see a Priest being the one that's in charge of the relationship. It could be a lot to take, but Phoenix's mental health gets addressed properly and I'm thankful for that. Amazing way to introduce a new city, can't wait for more of St. Loren.

I love New Gothenburg and all of the fantasy characters that inhabit it. I am so happy that these two writers got together and started to come up with these stories. Although this book focuses on Father Gian and Phoenix a lot of people from other books make guest appearances. This is part of why this bunch of books is so much fun. This one is rather different, mostly because Gian is a Catholic priest. Just let go of any bad connotations that has for you and enjoy this ultimately sweet book.

Loved this book. I wanted to jump into the pages and save Phoenix myself!! Wonderfully written as always. This book has a lot of emotion in it but still retains an amazing sense of humour. Just what I’ve gone to expect from these authors. Can’t wait for more!!!!
