    As a relative newcomer to the Romance genre, I approached this first assignment with no expectations and a little trepidation. I expected a droll, drawn-out tale of sexual repression and secret infatuation. For some reason, I also expected there to be a hayloft and the phrase “heaving bosom.” I am happy to say that I was gravely mistaken, and I did not encounter either of these aberrations. B.J Iron’s Sinfluenced is not your typical Romance novel. It is, in fact, a mind-altering substance that gradually entraps the reader in a morass of love, lust, and murder. Formulaic in that it embraces two main characters whose backgrounds are as distinct as night and day, Sinfluenced tells the tale of one man’s desire to possess the object of his affection and the depths to which he will sink to accomplish that goal.

    The primary focus of the novel is Bryan, the scion of a wealthy and influential family who lives his life to a level of hedonistic excess that would make a Roman Emperor blanch. He is vane, self-absorbed, and haughty. He is also a sensitive, deeply troubled, and flawed young man who becomes more human and more lovable despite his materialistic excess. Its easy to dismiss the character for his flaws, but he is a very real and very sympathetic person in the final analysis. On the opposite side of that analysis is Vic, a former law-enforcement officer and everyman who is now working as Bryan’s bodyguard. Vic comes to Bryan in the guise of the strong, protective White Knight but his mysterious past and nocturnal activities present a much more insidious nature.

    A coy Cat and Mouse game between the two ersatz lovers develops into a serious relationship. It is at this point that the story takes an unexpected and un-characteristic dark turn. Love becomes obsession. Obsession develops into a desire to control heart, body, and soul. This is where the typical Romance formula breaks down and becomes something else—something dark, but at the same time enthralling. Sinfluenced pulls no punches; it explores the dark underbelly of love and captivates the reader. While not recommended for everyone, it is an edgy, dark, and fascinating read.

    Sinfluenced is perfectly titled and wonderfully written. It's dark, it's sexy, it's shocking, it's impossible to put down, and touching on the world of social media influencers and obsession, it's current. Now, I'm not going to sit here and try to convince anyone that the story doesn't require some suspension of disbelief, at least I really, really hope it does but we learn every day about how dangerous obsession can be. So who knows? However, suspension of disbelief or no, I was on the edge of my seat so many times while reading this book, and that's not even what impressed me most. Nope, that goes to the characters - or the author's development of them. The thing about Bryan and Vic is that they're human, and Irons captures that completely. Neither of these guys comes across as all bad or all good. Granted, Vic's particular brand of crazy is always right there below the surface, but there were moments when I found myself almost feeling sorry for him. Only almost, but he's convinced of his feelings for Bryan, and the author makes us feel that. Then, there's Bryan, and I've gotta say that I didn't particularly like him a lot of the time. He comes across as incredibly vain. A guy that has it all and knows it, and doesn't care to flaunt it. But there's a flip side to Bryan, one that is unsure and lets social media control his feelings. One negative comment from a stranger can be devastating. Like I said, they're human, and while I'm glad they aren't real, especially one of them, they sure felt real.
    This crazy, twisted ride was my first experience with BJ Irons, but it definitely won't be my last. It's a must-read, and one I won't soon forget.

    Sinfluenced is immersive story of obsession and its fallout. Bryan has a million followers on social media, but all it takes is one or two comments from unruly followers to destroy him. Vic knows how to help Bryan with his problems, but the cost is high. This is a chilling story which keeps the pages turning as the reader knows and dreads what's coming. While a little slow in a few spots, the story itself is a fascinating dive into a carefully unhinged mind.

    Obsession is a dangerous bed fellow.
    With a chilling story of infatuation, Irons skillfully keeps you guessing right up to the last word.
    The main character Bryan is a super rich influencer with a damaged softer side. You can't help but want him to get his happy ending.
    Plenty of action in and out of the sheets, heat turned to the max.
    It will make you re-think that social media account!
