Snow Angel: A Devonshire Christmas Murder (The Beatrice Stubbs Series Book 7) Kindle Edition
Love is a driving passion. So is hate.
December in a small Devonshire village is the perfect time for a Yuletide festival, a Narnian wedding or a murder.
Now retired, Beatrice is working on a book, planning a wedding and pretending she doesn't miss the cut and thrust of Scotland Yard.
When a local celebrity dies in suspicious circumstances, Matthew encourages Beatrice to do some private investigating. Her enquiries reveal more than predicted and she discovers even her nearest and dearest are capable of deceit.
A snowstorm hits the village and Beatrice chases a lead, throwing everyone's plans into disarray and threatening lives. The ancient forest conceals a primeval web of complex loyalties and lethal bonds.
Angels protect their friends. But destroy their enemies.
Curl up with a riveting Christmas murder mystery and let it snow.
Each book of the Beatrice Stubbs Series works stand-alone.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"A classic village murder mystery, packed with comforts and crimes at Christmas with rural traditions at its heart" - Debbie Young, author of The Sophie Sayers Mysteries.
"This book has jeopardy, suspense, humour and some of the most beautiful prose I've come across. Here's an extract:
'Above, the cloudless sky deepens to a crow-black, with the new moon invisible to the naked eye. Without its dominant glow, stars sparkle all the brighter, like crystals of salt on Cornish slate. A stillness settles over the landscape. An owl screeches.'
Did the hairs on your neck just rise? Good. This is the best Stubbs yet, and one of the best books I've read." - Dawn Gill, Amazon reviewer

- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBeatrice Stubbs is a fascinating character that is very real. Love the settings and plots in this series. The addition of a rescue dog and cat just add to the charm of Beatrice and Matthew. I hope a new book in this series comes out soon to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI've enjoyed the entire series by this author. It's refreshing to read about a flawed, yet extraordinary middle aged lady taking care of business in a man's world. The characters are well developed and believable. The story line keeps you interested until the end.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseLoved it! Love the characters, the relationships and above all else Marsch’s sense of place. She brings Europe to life! There seems to be a bit of paganism or witchcraft in the background of this plot. Lots of jumping off points for further books. The relationship between Beatrice and Matthew is remarkable!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseMarsh is at her best in evoking fascinating foreign locales—Switzerland, Greece, Spain. She does her research well and these venues add interest and complexity to her work. Here, the English village is straight out of Midsomer Murders and the murder plot fairly weak. If Beatrice Stubbs is truly going to retire to this village, I hope Marsh gets her out of it from time to time.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAnother fun story involving weddings, retirement and murder set in rural England! Fans of Beatrice Stubbs will enjoy the muddle she creates while solving a mysterious murder she is not technically supposed to be investigating. Her friends are all involved and the wedding of Adrian and Will is sidelined for a while by Beatrice's detecting. Fast moving and entertaining story of retirement which keeps Beatrice sleuthing!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSNOW ANGEL: A EUROPEAN CRIME MYSTERY is #7 of the Beatrice Stubbs mystery series by JJ Marsh.
I quite like this series - for the characters, the dialogue, the plots and the ‘sense of place’. SNOW ANGEL finds Beatrice retired and living in the small village of Upton St. Nicholas with Matthew and really trying to ‘fit in’. She is quite over extended with household routines, wedding planning, village life and a request from Matthew to look into his friend’s unexpected death.
While I did enjoy this title, it lacked the pizazz I was accustomed to in the previous titles. BAD APPLES, especially, took the reader to Portugal and seemed more exotic to me and more professionally driven. SNOW ANGEL was more a British cozy mystery in a small village. Without her Scotland Yard credentials, Beatrice is in the amateur sleuth category and a bit scatter-brained.
I will eagerly await the next title, however, and hope for more excitement!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseJJ Marsh never disappoints: interesting characters, charming atmospheres, witty observations, rational (believable) plots, what's not to love about this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beatrice Stubbs, too smart by half!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI have read the two box sets and Snow Angel in only a few weeks. Beatrice is a character in every meaning of the word!
Love the series and the stories woven by Jill Marsh. Can’t wait for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful Beatrice Stubbs mystery
Format: KindleVerified PurchasePlease, please keep writing Beatrice Stubbs mysteries. I’ve eked this one out as long as I could and now feel quite bereft. What a great character she is - smart, competent and totally relatable to. She’s perfectly imperfect and I think if I met her that I would like her enormously. I loved this book and snuggled down to savour it with a mince pie and cup of tea. Well done JJ Marsh for another belter and what an inspiration to weave in Mason’s book - not sure at all where this is going but so long as Beatrice is involved in sorting it out then I am in!

5.0 out of 5 stars The semi-retired Detectice
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBeatrice and Matthew are attending the wedding of Adrian and Will when a local murder nudges Beatrice to the edge of retirement. Unfortunately the murder assumes a role in the wedding calling for concerted action among the main characters. As always I really enjoyed the plot and characters of this book and highly recommend the whole series to date. The travel descriptions and local environments are completely compelling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another classy and Intelligent thriller
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseHaving read all the other Beatrice Stubbs novels, I couldn’t wait to immerse myself in this latest one, and I wasn’t disappointed. Instead of picturesque European locations, the action this time takes Beatrice and her posse to Devon. But then, the UK is still in Europe, at least at the time of writing.
It’s Christmas, so count on snow, mistletoe, and murder. Despite being officially retired, the inimitable Beatrice, both flawed and fabulous, faces unexpected demands on her detecting skills. She’s assisted, and sometimes impeded, by a wonderful cast of characters. The narrative unfolds with the lively dialogue that I’ve come to expect from Marsh.

4.0 out of 5 stars Even In Retirement Mysteries Are Still Being Solved
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBeatrice is now retired and living in Devon. It seems as if she will continue using her detecting skills still in her private life. Beatrice and Matthew enlarged their household by adopting two rescue animals and I loved their inclusion. I enjoyed the picturesque scenes associated with the new cottage, the village, and other settings. There were many suspects, which added to the mystery. As the book took place in December, Christmassy descriptions were added. Adding more interest to the book was the build up to the wedding of Adrian and Will. Will continue reading the series.
