One look couldn’t hurt...One look could change everything she's ever believed in...

For Skye Thistle, one look through a mysterious spyglass changes everything. Catapulted to a strange world and into a war she doesn’t understand, she suddenly has a whole new set of problems. Should she hold on to everything she has always believed in, or let go of old prejudices and do whatever it takes to save her new friends?

A dark shadow is growing in the south, and the goblins are at war. Can Skye trust them, or is there a traitor threatening to undermine everything she’s working to achieve.

Desperate to return home, Skye’s only hope is an ancient prophecy that she doesn’t believe in. If she fails, she’ll be trapped forever.

When powerful and dark magic threatens to destroy everything, a teenage girl from Earth may be the only hope to save an entire world.

“The Spyglass and the Cherry Tree is a brilliant fantasy adventure with a journey about confronting fears and trials to become a hero, with a variety of eccentric characters, an evil queen, and the quest for a magical stone.”ReadersFavourite.com

Review

"Matt Beighton weaves a subtle psychological component into the plot as Skye has an emotional journey to confront her fears and to find her strength as the hero this world needs her to be. The Dark Queen has psychologically based abilities and uses these powers to manipulate Skye emotionally by preying on her fears and insecurities. Skye has to confront these feelings and accept them to become a hero. She demonstrates strength and bravery that carry her through every dangerous situation and against these magical creatures who want to harm her. Beighton uses a variety of creative names matched to the characters, such as Brabble, Brack, Snowbroth, Weard, and Snudge. The Spyglass and the Cherry Tree is a brilliant fantasy adventure with a journey about confronting fears and trials to become a hero, with a variety of eccentric characters, an evil queen, and the quest for a magical stone." - ReadersFavorite.com 5 Star Review

The Spyglass and the Cherry Tree by Matt Beighton 5 stars
An enchanted fantasy adventure had by a young girl on summer break. Exciting travel into another world where she grew to be braver than she ever imagined. She made lots of new friends Goblins and others. This is not the end of her adventures, there will be another book I'm sure. A good read for all ages.

I have read this book to a class of 9 and 10 year olds. I was enthralled as the children! We were all hooked from the word go. It really is a fantastically written book which is enjoyable for both children and adults alike! You won't be disappointed!

I really enjoyed reading this. Glimpses of Narnia and Middle Earth are really brought to life by the descriptive world building and its nice to see a strong female protagonist rather than a damsel is distress.

There are some interesting observations on prejudices and how we can overcome them but the point is sometimes laboured, hence the four stars.

Overall a really exciting pacey read and I can't wait to step through the spyglass again when the next instalment arrives!

P.s I can't help but notice the author looks an awful lot like Seth Rogan!

Although written for older children I totally love this book!

Extremely well written, and the attention to detail is magnificent, allowing readers to really immerse themselves into another world.

I cannot wait for the rest of the series. I will be following this author closely. Matt Beightin is one to watch for fiction for children.
I’ve already spotted he has a younger Children’s book coming out and I will be buying it for my daughter.
