Stop Being Invisible: Overcoming Communication Barriers Kindle Edition
His “WHY” to answering his calling to not only work on changing his own communication challenges, but to focus his work on improving the struggles of others, occurred one day when during a conversation, it was brought to his attention that people often jokingly referred to him as a “weatherman.” Thinking it odd, he questioned what was meant by that name. He was told that people avoided talking to him because usually, the only time he contributed to a conversation was when he asked about how the weather was. He realized that he was choosing to participate in conversations by becoming a “non-participant.” Whether in the role of boyfriend, husband, dad, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, coach or any of the many other roles in life he had assumed, few people had been able to understand his non-communicative style.
The response was not kind, but it did become a major wake-up call. This powerful and descriptive one-sided revelation of how others felt about having him as part of their conversations made him realize that it was time for drastic changes. He is no longer called “the weatherman,” and has gone on to guide many others with communication barriers to adopt effective communication skills resulting in the deeper connections that come from great conversations.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2018With this book, and the stories of Dr. Lane's life that he shares with you, you realize that you're not the only one that walks away from a conversation thinking, should I have said more, or less? He gives you tools and tips to help alleviate that stress of thinking too much and just open up.
Another thing as a parent of two elementary aged children that worries me is how will my children interact with other kids and adults as they grow up. Today's dependence on technology is very helpful in most things, but the human interaction is almost all but lost. I worry how they and their peers will interact in the future. Hopefully, I'll be able to reference this book in the not so distant future and help them become better equipped in their lives as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2018This book has a TON of useful information! It can be used as a textbook to teach communication theory or a “How to” book for those individuals looking for a quick and easy “self-help” read.
I would recommend this book to mature teens through adults as well as professionals working in the “helping” and education fields.
Dr. Lane’s writing style is easy to read and he is spot on in the numerous examples that he uses throughout the book. You can tell that he wrote this book from his heart!
