Stranded (Auctioned Book 2) Kindle Edition
Book 2 of 7 • MM • Romantic Suspense • Hurt/Comfort •Trauma • Age Difference • Military • Reluctant Hero
The Auctioned Series is a journey packed with action, nail-biting suspense, family, and love. In Gray and Darius’s fight for freedom and a future where they aren’t haunted by the ghosts of their pasts, they’ll make you laugh, cry, swoon just a little bit, and probably yell at your e-reader.
It was supposed to be an easy in-and-out job, Darius noted sourly to himself as he wrapped his gunshot wound. But this job had something none of the others did: Gray Nolan.
Like Murphy’s Law advised, anything that could go wrong, would. A mission to save one hometown favorite son was turning into a quest to rescue thirteen traumatized young men against odds so steep, he’d need an oxygen mask to scale them.
Facing new dangers and an uncertain future, Darius kept Gray close and was soon forced to accept that this had become much more than an assignment. For a man whose reputation was built on being ice-cold under pressure, Darius was beginning to discover how good it felt to burn.
This story takes place in Cara Dee’s Camassia Cove Universe, a fictional town where all books/series’ stand on their own, unless otherwise stated. The Auctioned Series should be read in the following order: Auctioned, Stranded, Deserted, The Job, Played, Finished, and Prepared.

About the author

Romance Across the Spectrum.
I’m often awkwardly silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex.
There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly.
Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve.
I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.
Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.
I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, cooking, baking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and family, too. But mostly, I just love to write.
~Cara.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2019Auctioned broke me, I felt all and every kind of emotion there is to fell. It was an eye-opener of sorts for me too, making me aware of what kind of dangers are out here in the world right now. These kinds of atrocities have been going on for a long time, but it has not been until recently that all these details have started surfacing. Darius and Gray are two of the strongest characters I have read, what Gray went through was very difficult, it was life-threatening in the sense that if you were weak in mind and in resolve, you would have never survive what Gray and his companions survived through. It takes a lot of courage and strong will to survive what they went through. Ms. Cara Dee effectively conveyed to us how these beautiful boys got through all the ugly things they experienced in Auctioned and now in Stranded, we see Darius and Gray continuing to plow through the evilness of the slave ring and the drug dealers/cartel now. Gray in all his bravery is still just a young man, naive in more ways, just trying to survive and get through all this ugliness, with the help of Darius, who has been through most of it, and still struggling through the aftermath of it all.
Stranded is full of action, and the strong bond between brothers Darius and Ryan can be felt throughout this book. They are so attuned to each other. Gray’s concern for Darius is so endearing. “If it works, then it ain’t stupid,” was a fun adage fun but rings true, and it put Darius right back in his place during the times he had arguments with Gray and his brother. Gray’s pain over what he had experienced in the process of being auctioned was one of the hardest part of this story, and every pain lingers in Gray’s mind and heart. It truly amazes me how Ms.Cara Dee is able to make the readers feel the pain that Gray goes through every time he remembers, my heart bleeds every time I read it. Gray feels deeply, for everything, but especially for Darius and for Milo, for losing someone so young. Jonas was another blow to Gray. He is in so much pain, it breaks my heart and my tears are falling, but I had to read through it and urge Gray on, to be strong, that he can get through this, he needs to get through this for the boys! For himself, for Darius! For his family! The thrill of what they were going through trying to escape and get off the island wasn’t short of mishaps, plans not materializing, improvisations, it was challenging all the way through.
This is still a hard read for me, it triggers my motherly instincts to always protect my children, all children, from all the evil in this world. I am also a mother who would want justice for all her children. It teaches/precautions us to be vigilant, to always take care of our loved ones. To always be attuned to what they need, because no matter how old we all become, we need someone to be there for us always, sometimes not even to help and talk, but just to be there, a strong presence that will help ground everything for us. I love Gray and all the boys, I cried for the ones who died, cried buckets, and I love how Darius’ protective instincts and how he stuck to the surviving boys, and wanted to protect them and care for them for the coming months that will surely be hard for all of them, even to Darius. I feel helpless, just like how Darius feel, watching Gray and the others try to regain normalcy in their lives. I want to gather them all and bring them with me all the time.
Congratulations Ms. Cara Dee for bringing all these emotions out in these books, once again, you have raise the bar for books that are worth reading. Five stars for Stranded and Auctioned! I can’t wait for Deserted!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2023Darius may have control of the slaver's yacht, but Gray and the rest of the young men aren't safe yet. The ship was also being used to transport drugs, and if the cartel gets wind of what happened, the men would be targeted by both the human traffickers and the drug gang. Darius and his brother devise a plan that will have each group blaming the other for hijacking the ship, leaving Darius, Gray, and the others safe. They just have to find a deserted island they can hide out on for a few days.
This direct sequel to Auctioned picks up right where the previous book left off. The body count is still worthy of a Rambo flick, but the sexual violence and torture is absent this time. That doesn't mean this installment is any less harrowing. Darius knows better than most that getting the men to safety is only the start. The traumatic events they've been through will stick with them for the rest of their lives and will take time to process, which is something even their families won't fully understand.
Of course, it's Gray that Darius worries about most. The younger man has gotten to him in ways that no other person ever has. Darius sees how Gray has been impacted by his experiences while being held by the slavers. His confidence has been severely shaken, and Darius has a pretty good idea of how Gray will ultimately react with the trauma. It makes giving in to the urge to be close to the young man even more of a bad idea, but Darius can't seem to help himself.
This story is told entirely from Darius' point of view, so we only get to know Gray more as he is seen through Darius' eyes. The young man is a genuinely nice guy. He is kind and caring, but Gray only sees what he perceives as his faults instead of his strengths. We can also see where he's heading so clearly that it is heartbreaking. The author manages to convey the complicated subject of trauma recovery naturally in a way that is neither too clinical nor too simplistic to be believable.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2024In this book, Darius, Gray, and the others are plotting their full escape from the area near the yacht. They are safer, but far from safe. Darius and Gray also are deepening their relationship more when they are not fighting for their lives. The action is so fast-paced that to say more in a review would be a spoiler.
This book has a lot of well-researched detail which makes it read more authentically. There is a good HFN, but no happy ending yet. While this stage of the story is wrapped up and the pacing is great, more is to come in Bk 3. I can't wait to read it!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2023I am so here for this journey that Gray and Darius are on!! It has lots of curves, bumps, and next it seems like maybe a detour?? Well all in all it’s an emotional journey!! We get a glimpse of the aftermath and are on the edge waiting to see what the next curve in the journey is!! Love the growth we’re getting to see in Gray and Darius!! On to the next book!!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2022The second book in the Auctioned series, the story of rescuing abducted boys and young men goes on. While the story itself is believable, it is the characters, their triggers, and their reactions that I found remarkable. The abduction and enslavement of young people by predators is not just an issue for females, as is clearly shown in this series. The book is not full of graphic details but only hints at things that were done to the young men during their enslavement - something that this reader appreciated. I hope that this series raises awareness of trafficking and encourages all of us to do more to stop trafficking, no matter who is involved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 🎉🎉🎉
4.5 stars from me. Sorry readers, but this is still a romance-free zone...this is GAY FICTION at it's finest, although as with other series I've read recently, romance will definitely be making an appearance sooner or later I suspect [the signs are there already...]. The storyline is certainly still too harrowing at the moment for romance to even be considered [I freely admit to copious blubbing 😢], and one of the best pieces of news I had before reading this one was to discover that there will be 5 stories in total featuring Gray and Darius; I have to admit Gray is one of my most favourite characters of recent times.
Darius and his brother Ryan have managed to rescue most of the Lost and Found boys thank goodness, although not without interference from drug cartel members, keen to start a turf war with the traffickers; now the REAL work begins...to ensure the guys don't fall victim to their awful memories and fears. Counsellors will be needed, patience is of paramount importance, and complete acceptance and understanding of the unholy anger that most of the guys will experience at some stage has to be a given. As with most PTSD sufferers, and I include certain members of the armed forces and rescue services under that umbrella term, the saying 'time heals all wounds' is trite and arguable at best, but nonetheless true...pain and anger do lessen in time.
Book 3, Deserted, follows on at some stage from this one. Bring it on!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant - but heed the trigger warnings!
This series continues to enthrall me. It touches on a lot of very dark and troubling themes, so the trigger warnings should definitely be heeded.
I found this both amazing and frustrating that it was from Darius' perspective after the first book was solely from Gray's POV. This gave us so much more depth to Darius, and filled in his backstory including introducing his family members, but conversely meant that we didn't get to be inside Gray's head when he was trying to cope - we just got the outward signs of what he was going through.
Once again I was pulled in from the start - the writing style making the situations very real as the boys, Darius and Ryan struggled to survive until a rescue could be made. It did register with me towards the end that having this from Darius' perspective was a clever way of showing the other side of the equation - what those around the victim go through and how they fail to understand what it's like for the victim, because they can't understand what it's like. This was showcased by how Darius saw quite a few of the families doing all the wrong things to support their kids. The same with the police who first met them too.
The storyline was gripping, still had elements of darkness (albeit nothing like the first book!), but also had the underlying theme if hope and resilience. It also brought to the forefront that Darius was fairly broken from his past experiences as well, and that trying to help Gray wasn't as easy as he thought as it brought the things he thought he'd buried back to the surface.
I can't wait for the next book and to see where this will lead us with both Gray and Darius. I'm hoping that the story switches back to Gray's POV, or even provides an alternate POV story, to round things out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply wow!
The entire "Auctioned" series is one hell of an emotional landslide, gripping thriller and keeps you on your toes from the first line to the last!
I read a lot and it takes a lot to capture me like this series did! Excellent!

4.0 out of 5 stars Eek!
While this book didn't have the action of the first one it still has everything else, plus we got to meet some old favourites from some of Cards other books. With the angst of will they won't they get off the boat being over this book definitely had a more sombre feeling to it but that didn't detract from the story. We got to learn more about Darius which made me sympathise with him more and he's still just as sexy and appealing. And Gray is still just as adorable and lovable. I'm looking forward to seeing how each of their stories, together and apart, develop in book 3.
