One Night With Him: Jonathan and Monica's Story (Submission Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 4,887 ratings

THE HIT USA TODAY BESTSELLER
Jonathan Drazen’s my billionaire boss. Or he was, until he fired me.
Now he wants to make a bet.
If I win, he’ll give me enough money to not care about this waitressing job.
If he wins, I’m completely and utterly his for the night.
Since a bad breakup, I’ve sworn off men, but I’ll take this wager. He’s hot enough to break some rules over. Besides, he’s still hung up on his ex-wife. There’s no chance he’ll want more after the sun comes up.
Just one night, and I walk away from his dark past and his hot demands.
I shouldn’t walk away in the morning though. I should run right now.
Turns out, when Jonathan Drazen wants something, he gets it, and after our one night, he wants me.

In the quote I use for the title of my review, Monica who is a singer/songwriter thinks about "the songs" she could write in praise of the beauty of Jonathan Drazen very early on in "Beg" of "Sequence One" in the "Songs of Submission". These songs that begin at that moment as an idea in Monica's mind are part of all the songs enveloped in the prose of CD Reiss. The literary work itself reads like music and in certain passages, even sounds like music. One example that comes to my mind is the rhythmic percussion of the " plink" sound punctuating the prose in a series of passages.
Masterful is not adequate to describe the skill and talent of CD Reiss. Mastery is attributed to craftsman able to craft a work of art with great skill. Beyond mastery is artistic inspiration and creativity which allows a work of art to soar above that which is earthbound beauty to the plane of heavenly beauty. There that beauty is recognized as "truth". It is there all great works of art speaking truth meet to elevate mankind's gaze and attention. It is there genius is found. And so this is the rightful place of this work of Ms. Reiss.
I am in a serious fangirl mental spin here...allow me to come down to earth and deliver some of the delicious details.
This is a love story, a great modern literary love story written in the guise of a heart-pounding erotic romance. Our hero, Jonathan Drazen is a stunningly beautiful bronze tinted hair and smooth ever so lightly freckled skin man with all the physical attributes that make you want to go mm Mumm. His Dominance and swagger and "tourmaline" colored eyes place him up there as one of my all time favorite fantasy book- boyfriends, nay lovers. In all his beautiful maleness, there is a mysterious hurt and guarding of his heart. He makes plain to Monica in the beginning that his heart belongs to his ex wife who hurt him and what he can offer her emotionally is limited by this condition...despite this Monica still sings her siren song with her beauty, natural self and her response to him and his touch.
Monica, dubbed "the canary" by a former beau, is serious about her music. It gives her life meaning and she guards and preserves her opportunities jealously. She is wary of over-involvement with anyone who would take her focus away from her songs, her singing and composing. It's the music that gives this canary her wings to fly and her voice to sing.
Initially, Jonathan enjoys a quasi-Dominant relationship with Monica, controlling certain aspects of their erotic encounters...more precisely, he controls Monica's responses. Despite her need to fly free she allows this measure of control. She senses in Jonathan his appreciation for her gifts and support for her music, her "songs".
In the last book, "Submit" the reader will discover whether Monica can reconcile her "submissiveness" despite her loathing of the label? And, will Jonathan find his heart free again to give Monica what she deserves? Will he help her sing? What will their song sound like as it is created?
Again reading the words that express themes and emotions feels smooth like silk is smooth. I never read or hear in my mind an awkward or misplaced phrase. The dialogue and banter are natural, appropriate to the character speaking and often witty.
This author could give a master class on writing erotica. Her moment by moment beautiful description...sometimes down, dirty and raw and sometimes unique, beautiful and swoon worthy tender...that the reader finds themselves barely able to breathe for the pleasure of the read.
These books in "Sequence One" are more than the label they bear as "Erotic Romance" or "Romantic Fiction". When you read with your heart, mind and body you find a feast of love in many shades, food for thought and an elevation of your being that is found in recognizing truths or " truth" as a
whole. Such a small price for books that will live in your memory a lifetime.

    More details:
I loved the chemistry between Jonathan and Monica, and I loved how the sexual tension between them developed into super hot encounters.
I also loved how Jonathan slowly transformed from a reserved, emotionally unavailable man, into the loving, supporting partner Monica needed.
It was Monica who ruined this read for me. I enjoyed her when she was sassy, strong, talented and sexual, but I didn't enjoy her when she was being indecisive, wanting more of the relationship one moment, and playing games and unsure another moment...
So although this book was mostly very good, it wasn't enough to continue reading the next book in the series.

This series is a dark romance and well worth the read. It is a great series, which you won't regret reading. You learn a lot of why Jonathan and Monica are like they are; Dominant and Submissive, or people in general. It's very enlightening. I enjoyed it very much, and it held my interest throughout all the books. Thank you C.D. Reiss for writing it.

    1. Beg

This is the story of Jonathan Drazen & Monica. Jonathan Drazen owns Hotel K, a club that Monica works as a waitress to pay the bills, while her band Spoken Not Stirred tries to make a go of it. They meet while she is working. She's serving him and his friends drinks and someone bumped into her, and she spilled the drinks all over them. Her immediate boss fired her. She now has a job at the Stock that one of Johnathan's friends owns. Jonathan goes there once a week. They do have an attraction, but she finds out he had a hard time after his divorce. They make a deal, and she fulfills it, which includes begging, thus the title of the book. End of first book.

    2. Tease

Jonathan and Monica keep seeing one another with no strings attached, for as much as Jonathan can't stop thinking about her, says has to end if they start getting too close. He still loves his ex-wife, who left him for another man. Monica is a natural submissive, which is what his hookup has been with a woman he was seeing every month. Monica fits that description fully, and the attraction is over the top. That's where the tease comes in for the title of this book. Monica wants an exclusive relationship, even though it's a temporary one. He's tested at every turn though. His ex-wife has used him for every whim she has after she left him, and he went running. That happened again when they woke up after a night together. She left. End of second book.

    3. Submit.

Jonathan goes to his ex-wife's house again to see what she needs this time. He then has a revelation that she is not what he needs, and why he married her and was with her for so long. He texts Monica, but she will not answer him. In the meantime, Johnathan's ex-wife goes where Monica works and tells her something that she is appalled by. This is the reason she won't talk to Jonathan right now. She's also meeting her ex to see if she'd been crazy to leave him. He's all about himself. She ends up working with him and one her best friends on a project. There is tragedy in this story for Monica and her best friend. She thinks about what Jonathan wants from her, and she finally submits to him. Thus, the title of this book. This book and series is very well written with secrets and emotions withheld. Looking forward to the next book

5.0 out of 5 stars Songs of Submission - Sequence One
Reviewed in Italy on January 20, 2014

This was an unexpectedly great read. I love this genre, but I'm usually disappointed with the writing quality. Not the case here. I'm glad I got to read all three parts of this at once since I'm not a fan of waiting to find out what happens. The characters and setting are conveyed with detail and depth with a style that doesn't slow the action for a moment. Big thanks to the author for redeeming the erotic/romance/bdsm genre for me. I look forward to reading more by CD Reiss.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG... What a read
Reviewed in Australia on July 4, 2017
The Submission Series by CD Reiss is not for the faint hearted and some people might find the descriptions of the sexual aspects of Monica's and Jonathan's relationship not to their liking or even disturbing but I am going out here.... for me, this is one of the sexiest books I have ever read.

Billionaire romances with alpha males (with BDSM tendencies) are a dime a dozen but this series is so far above all the rest. Jonathan Drazen is the ultimate Alpha (and Dom) and Monica is the gorgeous woman who comes into his life quite by chance and ends up rocking his world. Their relationship is her introduction to the BDSM lifestyle and she soon discovers that this is what makes her tick and Jonathan is definitely the man to do it. There is however, much more to their story and CD Reiss charts the ups and downs of their relationship (because no good relationship is without ups and downs) with an interesting supporting cast and a cleverly woven story line that (as the author wanted), reads a bit like you are watching it serialised on TV.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes this particular genre. Read it and enjoy it ladies....
