The Principles Always Work If You Work the Principles
Get ready to transform yourself for success. Jack Canfield, cocreator of the phenomenal bestselling Chicken Soup for the Soul® series, turns to the principles he's studied, taught, and lived for more than 30 years in this practical and inspiring guide that will help any aspiring person get from where they are to where they want to be.
The Success Principles™ will teach you how to increase your confidence, tackle daily challenges, live with passion and purpose, and realize all your ambitions. Not merely a collection of good ideas, this book spells out the 64 timeless principles used by successful men and women throughout history. And the fundamentals are the same for all people and all professions -- even if you're currently unemployed. It doesn't matter if your goals are to be the top salesperson in your company, become a leading architect, score straight A's in school, lose weight, buy your dream home, or make millions of dollars–the principles and strategies are the same.
From learning these basics, you can then tackle the important inner work needed to transform yourself. After this inner work, you can turn to building a "success team" and the important ways of transforming your relationships for lasting success. Finally, because success always includes a financial dimension, you can learn to develop a positive money consciousness along with the habits that will ensure that you have enough to live the lifestyle you want, while keeping the importance of tithing and service central to your financial practice. - Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2024I first got this book when it originally came out. I was (a lot) younger then and was struggling a bit to get my footing in life. I can honestly say this book changed the course of my life for the better.
The basic thrust of this book is simple: everyone is responsible for their own life. You can't blame your parents, your teachers, your rotten friends, your spouse, ANYONE, for your lot in life. You have to take responsibility for all of it and work to change what you don't like and what doesn't work for your situation. For those of you who like to play the blame game and refuse to realize that nobody is responsible for your actions in life but you, then this book won't do you any good. However, if you really want to take control of your situation and your future, read this book and follow the success principles. Your life WILL be better for it!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2009I knew about Jack Canfield from the Chicken Soup series. Now there've been so many of them, I've lost track. Jack Canfield is nothing if not prolific. At times, I felt a little overwhelmewd by the sheer mass of the advice contained in the book, but I simply chose the principles I found most attractive and that has worked well for me.
It's simple, straightforward reading with captivating anecdotes, heart-touching tales and practical easy to try steps for achieveing success. The instructions are clear, only problem is potential inner resistance.
The book helped me visualise my way into a whole new continent within a month of reading it. Talk about dramatic life change. Jack's newsletter and coaching/ mentoring also helped me a lot. He had offered a free 30-day program along with the book when I bought it, plus a free manual for starting your own Canfield Study group.
Not everything in the Principles appealed to me and I have had experiences that seem to contradict some of what he says, but that in no way detracts from the validity of his message. In fact it just proves 64 are not exhaustive. I bet Jack will be coming out with more soon. He's well worth reading. I also checked out some of the references he gave in the Success Principles (Napoleon Hill, etc.) which was fantastic reading, too.
Best of all: it works!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2008I discovered Jack Canfield through the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. I love reading but don't have time to read more than two books per month so I bought this audio book. I love it! Jack has an upbeat voice and a contagious positive attitude. I listen to The Success Principles as I drive to work, and it fills me with energy and motivation. The principles are simple to apply and touch many areas: goal setting, action planning, finance, and many more. Listening to it on my way home also gives me time to relax and focus on myself.
Jack talks about each principle in only 10 to 15 minutes so no matter what your commute is, you can listen to him and gain from it! I have no problem stopping in the middle of a principle as my auto radio starts it back exactly where I stopped... very much like a book.
I asked my daughter, 15, to listen to one of the principles with me, which talked about visualization. It helped her through her tests :-)
Congratulations Jack for your great work! And I hope I can hear you in person one day when you come to France or Switzerland for a conference.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2007I have read many self help books, and opening this book, and reading the 6 pages of testimonials and quotes, many from renowned authors or business people forms the impression that this book is out of the ordinary.
This book is a great reference and an excellent teaching manual for either a relentless self improver, or aspiring life coach. In the first 20 pages alone is major information about discovering your life purpose. Everything else flows from having a major definite purpose.
Taking 100% responsibility for what happens in your life, as opposed to blaming is also a very powerful concept.
I am also really liking the formula E + R =O. Event + response = Outcome. Your life is not defined by the events that happen in it, but by how you respond to them. So, if you don't like the outcome, change the response, or you will keep getting similar outcomes.
All these concepts are in the early part of the book, so you can probably imagine how much benefit can be derived from the remainder of this amazing book. More recently, I acquired the audio version of this book, which is narrated by Jack Canfield. If you like the book, you'll like this too.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2013I’ve read Chicken Soup for the Soul, seen him in The Secret, listened to one of his free audio talks, and have generally associated Canfield as a self help A-lister. I’ve always liked his approachable, easy to understand style this book is no different. It outlines 64 principles for living a life of passion, purpose and success covering everything from goal setting to friendships to facing your fears to managing your money. For those of you who have read countless self help books, you’ll likely have heard many of them before. I certainly skimmed through a number of chapters, while others I found more valuable.
The length of the book is certainly overwhelming, but it is divided into chapters that are brief and concise. Canfield injects lots of exercises and processes into the book making it difficult to keep up (I did some, ignored others), but they are worthwhile. The Success Principles covers everything, so if you’re looking to focus on a very specific topic, this isn’t the right read for you. But it is a great book to have in your library, one to turn to for inspiration and one worth coming back to, especially when there’s a topic you want insight on or challenge that you’re looking to work through.
