Sugar Daddy - A Horror Thriller Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 492 ratings

Winner of the 2011 Red Adept Reviews Indie Award for Horror.                                                      Originally self-published in 2011, the short story "Sugar Daddy" quickly developed a cult-following and went on to win the Red Adept Reviews Indie Award for Horror.

A sequel beckoned. The author eventually caved, and with tongue planted in cheek he penned what many felt was an even crazier outing than the original.

Now, due to popular demand, "Sugar Daddy" and "Sugar Daddy 2" have been updated and
combined into one terrifying and off-the-wall novella for your reading pleasure.

    Well written and interesting concept.

This is actually two books - a prequel and a sequel. I thought the prequel did a better job as a horror story because you never really understood the "villain" - what he was or how he thought. Since he was somewhat incomprehensible, he was scary.

The sequel makes him very comprehensible, which fleshes the story out, but also takes away most of what made him scary in the first place. It becomes more of a sci-fi at that point.

    Still, not bad.

I'm not usually a short story or novella fan. But THIS is a really great story!
The main character was very well fleshed out. So, somewhat, was the villain.
I enjoyed this immensely. Thank you, Mr. Menapace. Your books are delightful.

In the beginning, Sugar Daddy was a fast page turner. AWESOME! By the middle it was getting dull. Ho Hum! Towards the end it began to pick up pace again. The main character is an author who is telling his story. The ending leaves you hanging. It was just too weird. Would I read another from this author. Yes, he has had some good ones. This one just is not one of my favorite.

Not since my continued love affair with all things Stephen King have I been so obsessed with a horror writer! Since the beginning of April I have devoured many of Jeff Menapace's works. My next project is reading his box set " Bad Games " The thing about Jeff's writing is that it is full of description without being tedious. His characters are well developed but never predictable. The storyline is never stagnant but keeps the reader moving through it, never knowing what to expect around the corner! The feeling that I get while reading Menapace is one of inclusion.I feel that the reader is the most important person to the author and his motivation is to surprise and shock us in a great and fulfilling manner. thank you Jeff and keep 'em coming!!

This book was absolutely riveting until the end. I read it in one sitting. The end felt like a teenager who’s mom is telling him that dinner is ready so he needs to wrap it up. I would love to read this again with a more thought out ending. This really has potential.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real horror story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 29, 2017
After reading and loving several other books by this author, all dark thrillers, I came across this horror story and had to give it a go. It doesn't disappoint and is everything a true horror story should be. It reminded me very much of Richard Laymon in style and the story itself, at one small point could have been a nod to the Beasthouse books. Well worth reading!

Found the whole story very odd. Not one of his best books, quite disappointed. Wouldn't recommend unless you like odd!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed

Read the Bad Games books and thought I’d try this as I enjoyed them so much.
Great concept and good writing as ever but the story is ridiculous and left me wondering if it was by the same author. I wouldn’t bother wasting my time with this.
