- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAs usual she has but the mark in adult fantasy. Can't wait for the final book but I am also initially disgruntled be sure I have to wait. March isn't that far away.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2020Format: KindleValis needs a husband in order to advance in ranks in the holy order of Aseriphos. He wants Tavrod but is afraid to act on his desires. Valis has become a strong leader!! He leads a journey to the caravan, but when they get there the caravan is under attack. They fight for their lives and win but the challenges just keep coming. Well written, strong characters, and fantastic story line. I am voluntarily leaving a review form an ARC that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI love it, can't wait for the next book to come out. I am so glad I found this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2020Format: KindleI can’t believe how much this series gets better by the book. Although I am not happy how this one ended. Cliffhangers…grrr. But it’s been amazing to watch Valis grow and become such a strong leader. Even with his doubts and fears, he sees how everyone needs his words. It’s humbling for him, and amazing to see how much he’s grown.
They are on the journey to catch the caravan. When they get there, the caravan are under attack from a Qos priest and mercenaries. They quickly jump in to help and in the end, come out victorious. But then again, taking a life is never a win. They bury the dead and get a visit from the priest and more mercenaries that starts this whole mess. Valis takes on the priest and puts him in stasis and when the mercenaries realize who they had actually worked for, they made their apologies and quickly pledged their allegiance to Valis and his crew. It’s rough going because trust has to be earned, but they more than prove themselves. Especially when Valis sees he has a hit out on him and his fathers are slated for immediate capture. When they reach a village that the Qos people have overrun, Roba continues to teach Valis what he needs to know to defeat them. And they do. It’s not an easy battle. The villagers lost many, but they grieve and start to move on. And now they make their journey home. There’s a lot to be shared and to go over. Prisoners to interview, reports to be given and such. But for now it’s a time for cleanliness and rest. And hope and pray, Valis’s fathers are still alive. Because his visions are leaving him scared.
Valis has more than proved how much he’s grown in this book. He’s become a natural born leader. He’s learning, as well as his father, how to make their existences blend within each other and his father has finally proven himself to be worthy to be called father. This book is all about growing and learning. It’s learning your place and making it yours. And Valis is becoming more confident every day. With the help of his friends, his now lover/mentor, and those new people who have pledged their loyalties and devotion to him. He’s proven, even when scared, he will leave no one behind. He will jump in the fray. He thinks things through to cause minimal damage. But the kindness of his spirit has also shown how compassionate and kind he is. He just has a way to speak to people that make them want to listen and do as he asks. It’s been an amazing thing to watch with him.
This series is just…wow. I can’t wait to dig into the next one.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2018Format: KindleThis is the first book I have read in this series and because of that I am not aware of what has happened up to this point. This books seems to deal with Valis learning how to deal with his powers and how to control them. It also deals with his finally letting Tavros know of his love for him. In all it is a good read but you really need to read this in sequence because I feel like it would help me understand this story better.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2020Format: KindleThis second trilogy is off to a great start. There is much less crying, though emotions run high. More new characters are introduced, and the excitement and action has finally arrived.
Valis, Tavros, Seza, and Zhasina have set off on their quest to find Zhasina's caravan. As they get started, Valis's experience shows, and puts him in the position of teacher. With Roba's help, they are able to locate the caravan; just as a battle is underway.
Valis proves himself to be able and wise in the eyes of the Kalutakeni, as well as his friends, and becomes the unofficial leader of the group. This added pressure weighs on Valis's shoulders, but he knows he must be strong and do his duty. Surprisingly enough, he has an unexpected ally that gives sage advice along the way.
While traveling back to Cadoras, they learn of some of Qos' plans. The four friends know they must face their foes, and Valis is grateful for the help their new allies and his sire provide. It is good to see Valis find his courage, but it is also good that the author does not make him invincible. There are some heart stopping moments in this story, and foreshadowing of worse to come.
This book does finally allow Tav to get his head out of his a$$, and the timing couldn't be better. With the announcement that the Sovereign Priest made at the end of the Duty and Sacrifice trilogy, it was imperative that someone step up. But, as the story comes to a close, there is a strange interaction that will undoubtedly lead to trouble for Valis.
Happy reading!
