Can love be found on a snow-slickened Montana mountain road? It can if it's the right circumstances. But how can a snow packed road be good? It can when the man's Survival Instinct is engaged.
I love a story that's involved from page one. You know, one that keeps me guessing and on the edge of my seat wanting to know what's gonna happen next. This is one of those stories. Roxy Harte writes the blossoming attraction between the two men in a tender yet provocative manner that drew me in and didn't let go until the last page.
Hawk and Brian are interesting characters. Both have skeletons in the closet and both have hang-ups that make them realistic. Hawk knows he's gay, but coming out scares him. Many people know the paralyzing fear he dealt with. And Roxy Harte writes him in such a fashion that I could feel his emotions as if they were my own. Brian, on the other hand, is interesting, but there were plenty of times when he wasn't my favorite character. Why? He seems to wallow in his turmoil at times and it got a bit bothersome. I wanted to know his story and I liked how Ms. Harte revealed him. He's got a lot going on in his past and it's rife with emotion. I realize he wants to deal, but like many people he doesn't know how. That's fine, just at times it bogged down the story.
Still, the sex smolders. I felt the passion between Hawk and Brian almost before they understood it themselves. And who knew things could get so darn steamy in a cave? I had to check my screen for scorch marks.
If you want a story that's hot and sexy, then you need to read Survival Instinct. I give it 4 cherries.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2018Another wonderful read I’ll have to revisit! The scenes with Hawk and Brian grew more intense with each chapter: pretty sure I caught my breathing change a few times, wowwy! If the first of the series is this hot, I’m eager to read what happens next!

- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2018I really don't like these kinds of books; the ones that start off decent, then quickly disappoint. It became boring and repetitive, and the POV between the two main characters switched back and forth so much I got dizzy. I mean, I get it, it's a writing device, but--in the same sentence, practically? No. Also, the Native character had waaaay too many stereotypes, and cried out for a sensitivity reader. The whole thing was just too trite. I'm really glad I didn't pay for this.
Also, it had quite a few small errors for an author with so much "experience" --
- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2018DNF 52% One word to describe this book is confusing amongst other things.. I think this would have been a great story. I loved the sadness for Brian not getting his closure over his hubby and brother. I felt I needed to keep reading but some of the scenes are needing to be rewritten and or confusing or just plan wrong to keep reading. This was a first time read for me for the author.
"Fluid bonded" who says that.. One minute Brian had no experience as a Sub then he did.. The start of Chapter 6 in this needs to be rewritten. The first BDSM scene there was no talk about limits being discussed before the belt welded on Brian's ass. *sigh. Hawk says "Just Brian" was really enjoying and a scene in a shops changing room is just noo..I couldn't read further..

1.0 out of 5 stars Some rationale would be good. I'm guessing the story line here is nothing ...
DNF @ 25%
The writing is mawkish and the story without substance.
An example of this is where in one paragraph MC1 is telling MC2 that he doesn't want to live, and in the next paragraph MC2 is kissing MC1 and 'reason is in his head screaming how unprofessional it is and how sex isn't the answer to grief'. However, we continue into the sexual adventure and on the next page we are discussing safewords.
Uh what?
Some rationale would be good. I'm guessing the story line here is nothing more than a vehicle for sex scenes.
