Surviving Amber Springs Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.4 out of 5 stars 5,392 ratings

An emotional, angsty, suspenseful second-chance romance from the USA Today best-selling author of Inseparable and When Forever Changes.

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone....
I’m the second-most hated person in Amber Springs.

First place honors go to my twin, Ethan; however, hate isn’t a strong enough word to convey how people feel about him.

Not that I blame anyone—some days, I hate him too. Mostly, I’m just lost and afraid, drowning in a sea of betrayal and guilt, wondering how this happened right under my nose.

There’s no choice but to leave. To move clear across the country in a last-ditch attempt to start over.

Transferring to a new school midway through senior year is hellish for most people. For me, it’s a welcome relief—until someone discovers our secret and now everyone knows.

The pointing, whispering, and scathing looks follow me around again, and I’m back to square one. Except, this time, I’m not alone.

Axel, Skeet, and Heath took me under their wing from the minute I arrived here. I’ve no idea why three of the hottest guys in town took any interest in me or why they continue to have my back, but I’m so grateful to have them in my corner.

Because, right now, they’re the only reason I’m not following my brother into an early grave.

This is an upper YA/NA stand-alone #whychoose contemporary romance. Due to sensitive content and possible triggers, this book is recommended to listeners aged 18 and older. This is a full-length novel.

This is the must read of 2019!!!!

This is the must read of 2019!!!!
There are book in my life that I have read that stay with me for days and even years. I think this book will be one of those books. I have read books by Davis before, but nothing has been as controversial or haunting as this book. Davis addresses at the end of her book that although not American, our issues, especially gun violence haunts her as it does millions of others. She tackles something I have never seen before in a book-the family of the shooter and the fallout that happens. Often times, when I see a school shooting, I faintly think of the family of the shooter but it eventually turns to the victims. Davis gets right in the reader's face refusing to back down. Not only is the shooter out for revenge but he has a twin who gets left behind and tortured. There were some things I saw coming a mile away and then others that slapped me sideways. This book should be read by every American and open up some big discussions on bullying, harassment, and mob mentality. What I loved most about this book though was the pace. Some authors rush into the poly relationships and others take 6 novels to break in the idea, but somehow Davis was just right. Her writing in flawless full of heat, passion, angst, emotion, and so much more. I went though a whole box of tissues and ugly cried right along with B and her men. There are so many layers to this book, and now I can't bring myself not to go grab another one off her shelf. This is the must read of 2019!!!!

I don’t often give 5 stars even for the books I really enjoy. This one touched me in a way that was somehow both personal and unimaginable. Warning that it is intense with many possible triggers, but they were truly written with care and sensitivity by the author in a way I have never read before. My minds a mess and I just finished this and have so many emotions leaking from my eyes. I don’t want to give any of the story away but I will say this.
The MFC is strong, stronger than anyone gives her credit for and it’s not an in your face strength, it’s subtle and building and interwoven throughout the entire storyline. That’s not to say she doesn’t have moments and trials because she has tons, and she makes choices I don’t know I would or could but I never got angry or felt disbelief about it. The story touches many triggering or touchy subjects that I can’t mention without blowing a big storyline but I will say again, that it’s the best written mention of it in a story I’ve read and I didn’t feel that it took an extreme prejudice in any direction. The guys are well written, unique and distinguishable and the characters are all relatable. I’d have loved more depth and background on the guys themselves but it didn’t take away from the story or connection I was able to make. I wish there was more than just one book. I can’t find it in me to formulate more words as I finish processing this book but I look forward to reading it again when I’ve processed it fully. I’ll miss B and the guys. Wish I could have met E…

I loved this book from the start! I was intrigued from the very beginning and needed to know all the trauma that was going on! Blaire was a great main character and I'm glad she was strong and resilient! I loved the plot and as it got deeper I was blown away, shocked and nervous about all that was going on! The guys are soooooo HOT AND CUTE! But one really annoys me and that's usually not the case in RH. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 five due to a certain someone and his part in the plot! But overall great read!!

(The good parts with the 3 amazing men of course)

I'm in love with the book, in love with the men and in love with Blairs strength.

    It's a must-read.

But be warned, you'll love the book and when it's over in just 2 days.

Spicy bits are rare and rated at about a 3 out of 5. Felt like i needed more from her relationship with 2 or the men (won't give it away) but still a good read.

Let's not forget the story itself. Covering a lot of grief, pain, loss, and abuse. It's a good read. I feel like it could have gone deeper but this is light enough that it doesn't require too many trigger warnings.

So sad the story has ended though - wonder what life ahead looks like for them?

The cover grabbed my attention then blurb pulled me in with an absolute need to read, but neither prepared me for the extraordinary and heart-wrenching journey I was about to take. Surviving Amber Springs was one of the very best books I’ve read in all my life that I couldn’t put down and read within a few hours! It has it all - family, friends, enemies, love, drama, and I won’t spoil it for you by listing others and leave you with SO MUCH MORE!!😉

Blaire, Skeet, Heath, and Ax take us on a whirlwind of emotions full of pasts that would destroy some of the strongest people, heartbreak that rendered me speechless, and a love so beautiful that I had tears in my eyes during some of the heartfelt moments throughout this story. I have never felt so many different emotions while reading a book as I felt while reading this one. I laughed, I got angry, and I cried various types of cries, even ugly sobbed a little.

The realistic feel of this story hit me soul deep. The author done an outstanding job with writing this one and I am definitely a new diehard fan and will be reading more. The way she wrote about not only so many beautiful subjects we all love, but how she wrote about so many hard ones too and captured realistic reactions, emotions, and outcomes of them was an exceptional show of her true talent as a writer.

I want to personally thank this author for writing about the subjects she did. This story hit me hard and will carry a special place in my heart forever and will definitely be one I share with every reader I know. Thank you!🥰

There were trigger warnings, but not the one that was needed. I understand that it was an attempt not to give away the plot, but I think it was a really important one. I won’t spoil it but suffice to say I teach at a high school and I can’t read, recommend , or go without warning in someway people who might be sensitive to this topic. Especially since through the plot it’s, if not justifiable, understandable. so if you’ve read this far, the gun violence warning refers to a shooting.

For what it’s worth it was well written and it’s probably was good. If it had occurred anywhere else I could’ve gotten behind it. Myself and thousands of others go back next week. I sincerely hope that it ends with a recommendation to do more our kids more protection for SA, bullying, and gun violence.

    I’d probably give this 4.5 ⭐️ if I could.

There are some serious trigger warnings given in the blurb for this book and at the front. Pay attention to them. They are there for a reason.

This book is incredibly emotional. It is about an 18 year old, Blaire, who has just moved across the country with her mother and father to start fresh after the death of her twin brother a few months before. Her mother and father are struggling with the loss of their son and Blaire seems to be losing out to their grief.

Just before she starts her new school, Blaire gets hit in the head with a football and three guys insist on helping her out as they were the ones responsible for the accident. Blaire is not trusting as she has had issues with people bullying in the past. This incident starts her friendship with Heath, Axel and Skeeter. The three guys have been friends since early childhood and instantly are drawn to Blaire and take her under their collective wings at school.

As all three guys are hot, this of course brings out the fangs on the mean girls and things get complicated quite quickly.

This book is complex and very dark in places. There were definite tears on my part in a couple of places. The book is split into two parts and I think this was a good idea and dealt well with a big crisis in the middle of the book, that helped launch into the second part which entailed solving a mystery as well as resolving relationship issues.

It’s a cleverly plotted book and well paced. Subtle hints are dropped that draw you on, so you can either confirm or discard your ideas about what the hints mean.

The characters were very well constructed and relatable. There interactions were on the whole believable given the situations in the book.

Sometimes you just need a book to really twist up your insides and this book really achieves that. If you want to be moved, this is the book for you. If you want lighthearted, move on to your next choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating, heartbreaking and enlightening
Reviewed in Australia on January 11, 2019
Holy Hell!! I was captivated from the very start. Before I start my review, I need to say: Please heed the trigger warnings - there are some truly horrific and heartbreaking scenes in this book - physical assault, self harm, recounts of sexual assault, and quite horrible verbal abuse (bullying with direct intent for the victim to die/suicide) to name the main themes.

Now for the review itself. This book was spellbinding! So well written! The character development is amazing, the storyline gripping and had great flow, and the traumatic side of the plotlines tastefully and carefully written.

We meet Blaire as she and her parents are unpacking in their new town. We are told her twin Ethan died and that the circumstances of his death were controversial and saw them practically run out of Amber Springs (their old home town). The details surrounding Ethan's desth are gradually revealed throughout the story - some of the details are easily guessed due to how the family is reacting, others aren't. Blaire escapes the house to go for a run and ends up meeting Axel, Skeet and Heath. They have an immediate connection, and form a friendship that sees Blaire's parents happy she's meeting people and making friends, and gives Blaire someone to help her get through the first days at her new school.

Not everything is sunshine and rainbows though. A jealous ex-girlfriend and someone from her past threaten to break Blaire as her well hidden secrets come out in a dramatic fashion in front of the whole school. But that's still not the full story! It takes until the later half of the novel, set 19mths after their senior year, for the full extent of what happened to Blaire to be revealed, and for Ethan's actions to be explained.

I was heartbroken with what Blaire went through - tissues are definitely needed, and that's not something I often find myself saying. The first half of the book is solely from her perspective, so I got the full impact of what she was going through. The 2nd half introduces chapters from the guy's perspectives, which was a perfect way to introduce their inner musings, expose their hurt and confusion, and to round out the story.

I loved that this book was long enough to close out ALL of the plotlines - not one was left unanswered, and not one was rushed.

The epilogue was beautiful and filled with hope and positivity. I'm so glad I read this book, and, as heart wrenching as it was at times, thrilled that I got to experience Blake's journey with her. She is an amazing and strong character to have survived all of that - so well written.

Definitely a book I would recommend, but as I mentioned, be aware of those trigger warnings.
