🩸Mafia Romance Review🩸⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5What a rollercoaster ride this book took me on. My goodness, I itching to know what would happen next. Kiddos to @srmauthor for keeping the suspense building!The start up was slower simply because we, as the reader, needed to understand this King’s Trace world we were diving into. But once you’re engrossed in the story, you can’t stop turning the page.Elia and Caroline couldn’t be more opposite in personality, but their worlds are very similar when you look closely. The love Elia builds for Caroline, along with his need to protect her from very early on, was something that stood out for me.This is my first Sav R Miller book and I will admit the way this book ends, I can’t help but need to download the next one of the series.This book does not end on a cliffhanger. This story does have a lot of heavy, dark storylines interweaved. The author does put a warning at the beginning and she isn’t kidding that there could be triggers. Although the material written is darker than even I expected, the story itself is so well told. I love mafia romances and this one didn’t sugarcoat the mafia world while telling the romance story.

    Caroline I just want to hug you. Her inner dialogue felt so realistic and honest in terms of saying out loud the opposite of what your inner thoughts are. Her struggles with the abuse she endured as a child and into her adulthood, shaped who she was and the vengeance that drove her right into the arms of mob boss Elia Montalto. Seeing the way her dad still had effects on her, even after she married Elia, shows that even when removed, the effects of trauma stay, especially when facing the abuser. Caroline is still sassy and defiant, even when she just wants to be taken care of. She definitely kept me on my toes which I enjoyed! I loved her baking aspect that she uses to cope and also dreams of owning her own bakery.

    Elia you damaged, dirty talking, broody man you. Elia doesn't give a shit about anyone, until he lays eyes on Caroline. That man was screwed from the start but damn did they fight it throughout the book to make it so damn satisfying when they finally gave in. The way he struggled understanding his feelings shows how much he truly had himself closed off from others and avoiding close connections with anyone. When he finally figured out his feelings, that man stopped at nothing to show his love for her and ugh I love him. He is perfect "touch my wife and die" energy and didn't let anyone disrespect her, even when she wasn't around.

    The world building with mafia, dirty politicians, drug running, Crimson club and the spice were all perfectly balanced. The tension and banter with Caroline and Elia had me feeling all the things. The epilogues and seeing the growth and future with Caroline and Elia was perfect for them.

    There has been minor changes and bonus content with the new cover reveal so if you've already read it, I highly encourage a reread.

    THE BONUS EPILOGUE, SAV MY HEART PLEASE!

    Seeing how things for Elia and Caroline play out for their future and the thoughts Elia has just made him more realistic. The way Sav brings to life Mafia men on such a deeper emotional level definitely sets her apart from other mafia/dark romance I've read and this bonus content was perfect and solidified my 5 star rating 🖤

    I keep rereading this book because I love Caroline and Elia. There’s something so mature about them. I’ve read several dark romances, mafia included, and many feel unrealistic, but this book doesn’t. I think it’s because Sav R. Miller knows when to let the reader fill in the blanks. Details about the mafia can not only bog down the plot but also the relationship.

    Caroline (FMC) was mysterious and strong, totally independent. I LOVED how she used subtle manipulation to get what she needed. You just don’t see that often!

    Elia (MMC) was such a sucker for Caroline right from the start. That’s how I love my MMCs lol. However, I do have to mention safety here: there is OW/OM scenes on page after the MCs are together. It’s not too bad and it’s before real emotion develops between them. Anyways, Elia would do anything for his wife, his world. Reading his POVs was everything 🥺.

    I wanted to see more of the relationship development between Elia and Caroline and Caroline and Juliet. I could tell it’s there but I just wanted that little extra something. I also wanted some more scenes of revenge from Caroline. My girl deserved it 😏.

    The Bonus Epilogue was SO GOOD. Holy smokes, it was so them and felt so complete. Ugh. This was just super entertaining.

    First, What a way to start of a story like this one. That man kneeled and did it in the best way. Elia Montalto is a mafia boss with a Monster that feeds of his darkness. He is possessive, dominant, protective, feral, and and expert in bed.

    Caroline is the oldest daughter of two who is looking for revenge while protecting her sister and being strong. She is fierce, intelligent, guarded, resilient, proud, and with skeletons in her closet.

    A marriage of convenience with unexpected emotions and surprises. It all moves along fast and not fast enough. They are explosive and lustfull in evey way but that's not the issue. I love getting to see these characters unfold and find out what the purpose of finding each other meant. Redemption and saving grace.

    Author gets solid 3 stars for writing style and story concept. There was a ton of potential with the idea, unfortunately it became a DNF for me for the reasons I deducted 2 stars.

    First being character consistency. We are led to believe h is totally on board with using H for her own sexual gratification (hats off to that) but then does a complete 180 making her strength look weak. The H is similar, threatening in his inner monologue but fails following through, it makes him come off as incompetent and slightly spineless. The end result; both mc's feel convoluted and fickle at times.

    Second star deduction was a big one and probably only applies to those of us who have lived in Maine for any length of time. I grew up in mid coast Maine and the logistics of the setting killed me in the finer details. A strip club in a small shiny tourist town holds zero water for me. The author clearly has no clue where Maine tourist come from, because it sure AF isn't predominantly Portland, Augusta and Quebec. Try Mass, CT & NY. I could go on a whole rant over this, but I will stop there.

    I made it to the 60% mark, and it was a frustrating DNF, because as I said the writing style was smooth and I was invested in the plot, I just lost faith in the character plausibility and the setting that was so far into fantasy I found it annoyingly distracting, constantly pulling me out of the narrative.

    Anytime I need a dark romance, I know I can turn to anything Sav has written. This was no different. Elia is a sexy emotionally mature antihero with a hero complex and mommy issues (just how I like them) and Caroline is a strong fiery woman just look for revenge and safety for her sister. I can’t wait to dive in to the next book and see what goes on between the Homicidal Hermit and Juliet.

    Elia. Is a real alpha male and he is head of the mafia. When his temptation gets the better of him he brings her home and he is completely obsessed with her and tried to ignore his mind. Elia.is a jealous, possessive man who always gets what he wants.

    I loved these characters and I loved seeing the strength that Carolina has and how she'll protect her sister no matter what. These two did kinda start of slow burn even though she moved in with him it moved along slowly, it also has total steam factor. These characters are easy to connect with and I loved reading their story.

    I love all the twists inside this book and i loved all the darkness and suspense. I was hooked right from the beginning with these two and I loved how This author brought these characters to life.
    I loved the character growth throughout this book and the plot was fantastic. I absolutely loved the bonus chapters too. I absolutely recommend this book.

    After seeing a tiktok about this book I uploaded it on KU and eagerly started reading it... I quickly realized it wasn't in my wheelhouse. New to dark genre I found it heavy going. Often putting it aside and moving to something light hearted...
    But I am so GLAD I persevered with the book. I enjoyed the underlying plot. LOVED the characters and was enraptures with the way the story ended!!!
    I will be buying the book to add to my collection.
