Switch-Hitter: Hit and Run, Book 1 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,207 ratings

Get a personal chef, they said. It’ll be fun, they said.

And then Thierry shows up and Pietro realizes his mistake. Because he knows Thierry. A little too well.

Thierry is the man who told his ex to leave him.

Thierry is the man who punched Pietro and ran.

Thierry...is his ex-boyfriend’s best friend.

But Pietro also knows the man needs a job. An injury destroyed his former career, and Pietro is nothing if not a bleeding heart. Besides, he doesn’t have time to search for a new chef, not with the World Series looming and his team ready to go all the way.

Life gets more complicated, though, when he and Thierry cross a line one night after a lot of wine and several bad jokes. And while hooking up is one thing, Pietro knows the last thing in the world he needs is for his heart to get involved.

Too bad it tends to make decisions without him.

Switch-Hitter is the first book in a fictional MLB series featuring a lonely baseball player with a chip on his shoulder and hope in his heart, a team ready to win no matter what it takes, a grumpy French chef who will defend escargot to the death, and a few bottles of dry red wine leading to the sweetest happily ever after. Each book in the Hit and Run series stands alone, contains no cheating, and has a happily ever after.

I absolutely love a good sports romance and E.M. Lindsey has created a truly amazing one with their new Hit and Run series! Thierry and Pietro are both a little bit broken but have a whole lot of love to give to the right person. Unfortunately, they have not had great luck in finding the right person before they found their lives connected again after a drama filled incident that changed both their lives. I hated seeing both men struggle so much to find their way toward the future they want but the struggle is what made the ending so sweet! Both Thierry and Pietro grow so much as people in this book and it is wonderful to see them embracing the changes they have made to lead a more positive life without whitewashing the events of their past. I loved the theme throughout the story that while people don't really become "better people," those who want to make changes to their life and make better choices are able to live a different way than they have in the past. I loved all the side characters in this book and hope some of them will be getting their own HEA in future books! Fantastic new series with really diverse and complex characters and great storylines! Can't wait for the next book in the series!

SWITCH-HITTER by EM Lindsey is an m/m contemporary story about a baseball player and a bodyguard turned chef who have somewhat twisted connection and who end up romantically involved. Player Pietro Bassani and Thierry Bourget met when Pietro was dating Thierry’s friend/employer, and hadn’t seen each other for quite some time after that.

EM Lindsey’s characters are interesting, and I enjoyed seeing their physical and emotional imperfections and felt those well portrayed. Pietro’s ADHD and Thierry’s concerns from a spinal cord injury definitely impact their daily lives, and affect their overall landscape.

Switch-Hitter kept my attention, and I am interested to read more by this author.

I'll confess I have read this book twice. I was blown away by how much emotional depth, realness & rawness feel real to me as a reader.

I'll start by saying E.M Lindsey is a new author to me. Not only that, but the hurt/comfort trope is new too. It's like drinking hot chocolate in cold rainy weather😆.

    This book includes:

    ✅mm sports romance(baseball)
✅(Kinda) enemies to lovers (both MCs shared history with a toxic person)
    ✅(Kinda) second chance romance.
    ✅character representation (ADHD, Disability)
    ✅close proximity (employer/employee)
    ✅HEA

The book opens up with Pietro, an MBL player, who got punched & several teeth were knocked out by his boyfriend's bodyguard "Thierry," which led to a nasty fight & it ended with Pietro breaking up with his boyfriend (now ex Hervé)

Thierry, a bodyguard/close friend of Hervé (the ex), got shot & left him paraplegic. Thierry's real passion is cooking, but Herve's selfishness & manipulation kept him from pursuing his dreams.

Fast forward into the future, Pietro puts an ad for a personal chef because recently, as an adult, he was diagnosed with ADHD, which made his life complicated & something simple as following a recipe makes it challenging to follow due to his attention span. & guess who showed up to the job? The infamous Thierry.

I'll keep it spoil-free, but in the scene where they meet for the first time, the tension is so beautifully written I was holding my breath for the whole scene.

I loved every second of how these imperfect characters were portrayed in their struggles. Being in the depths of absolute misery cuz, in their damaged & dark state, they found the strength to lean in & confide their pains to each other & they struggle through the fear & pride in revealing anything.

As a physician, I encountered patients in both conditions & I applaud the author for shedding light on the toll it's taking on oneself & the ones who surround them, not only physically but mentally & emotionally, financially. Additionally, I appreciate the work & the research the author did to put it out there.

All the supporting characters were amazing. Also, I'll admit It's been a while since I read about a crazy ex, but this one tops them all. I wanted him to be hit with bad karma.

And now I found a new favorite author. And I look forward to the next book (🤞it's James)

My only criticism is the same as other reviewers. I wasn't aware of Gabriel & Ezra's story (Pietro's brother), which is a prequel to this.

*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

This book brings together several unlikely men. And as two of them work together to finally find love the third one gets what he deserves. The sex is really hot and might make you want a cold shower.

Wish there were a couple more chapters before the epilogue of them finally getting together as a couple but really enjoyed their story

Another great story by EM Lindsey. This was offered for free so of course I took it. The challenges that both men had was well written and their story was just great. Even though this is a sports romance technically it is less about baseball and more about the relationship.

I enjoyed this story. I’m not all about a narrative book style more into POV but this was a really good story line. I will continue with the series. It was just lacking heat IMO but other wise good.

This book shows that regardless of a disability you can still live life and meet someone who treats you no differently to someone who doesn’t have a disability- Netflix nights, baseball games, cooking together it gradually builds a strong loving relationship which started off with two people hating each other!

A really heartwarming story that I’m glad I took the time to read 😊

Thierry punches Pietro while guarding his best friend and Pietro’s boyfriend Hervé. The couple break up, and it’s a good thing for Pietro.

Later, Thierry gets shot while still a bodyguard for Hervé, who then cuts him off as he’s no good to him.

After a long and arduous recovery, Thierry becomes a chef and is hired by Pietro through strange circumstances.

As the two make peace, they each begin to feel an attraction there, both having been in toxic situations with Hervé that made them their worst.

They see how events have led them to each other, but have made them better people individually as well, and they learn to trust and believe in each other being there.

A great book that delves into the challenge that people with disabilities have in their daily lives. ADHD symptoms are also well depicted in Pietro, and it interferes with his daily life as well, so I love that nobody’s perfect.

I did enjoy the book and liked Thierry and Pietro as characters but it felt like their relationship wasn't the focus of the book, I wanted more of them getting to really know each other, more meals together, I could have done with a bit more tension given the baggage they both have rather than it being brought up to hurt Thierry all the time, the situation with the ex felt unnecessary especially at the end, it feels similar to the first book in that too much of the relationship happens off page and we get too much focus on the baseball and the charity, Thierry's recovery and therapy was dealt with really well and felt important to the story, I was perplexed by Pietro putting everything else ahead of Thierry at such a difficult time when he's supposedly falling in love with him yet can barely take time to ring him and for him to put it on his ADHD bothered me.
