About the authors
In the words that Robert Heinlein put so evocatively into the mouth of Lazarus Long: 'Writing is not necessarily something to be ashamed of, but do it in private and wash your hands afterwards.' Having tried a number of different careers, before settling in the North-East of England with family, three dogs, cats and a small flock of rescued chickens, I now spend a lot of time in private and have very clean hands.

The term genre-hopper could have been coined to describe me and my books, modern-day thrillers sitting side by side with sword and sorcery, wicked dragons, and short stories and verse.
In addition, I’m proud to be the co-author of the Dai and Julia Mysteries with my good friend E.M. Swift-Hook.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2021A Christmas Tail is the story of a selfish child who learns to be generous after meeting a magical mouse. With a lot of appealing parallels to A Christmas Carol, this little book would be perfect for a cozy, Christmas Eve read.
The only hiccup for me was a line that suggests Father Christmas doesn't visit poor children, which I thought was a bit too real for a kid's story. Some young readers might not connect the dots, but I suspect my little Santa-sleuthing-Sherlocks would have questions. :)
Overall, though, this is a charming holiday story with some lovely illustrated formatting and book design.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2017This is a gorgeous children’s story in rhyme that delivers the lesson of Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ in a simple and effective way for children and adults alike.
The layout and illustrations are charming, and the story is heartwarming.
This would be a great story for families to read together leading up to Christmas.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2021A Christmas Tail is a story about how a girl who had everything learned to share when no one came to her Christmas Party. She had everything but friends. When a short little mouse showed her the way to smile. It is such a simple but enormously important message.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2017I loved the flow of these lyrical verses and the morality tale (tail?) of this adorable little Christmas story. The main character is a spoiled rich girl with an enormously long name. She soon learns a valuable lesson from a magical mouse, and the entire story is really clever and cute!
My only complaint would be that I was hoping there'd be full page illustrations by the talented cover artist! But even still, it's a great book for little kids and adults who still feel like little kids, especially during the holidays.
