Takedown (Book 2 of the Take series): An accidental marriage romance Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 1,520 ratings

I hold up my hand, and right there, on my left ring finger is a fat, round, and crystal-clear diamond ring.

Mellie

I was not a gambler. No way. I’ve built an existence free of risk and adventure. From my career to a small life with my closest family. I was not going to do anything to jeopardize my heart. But when my neighbor and number one menace to my safe plans showed up in Vegas, I did what every adventurous (not!) woman would do. I got drunk and married the man.

Adam

What happens in Vegas is supposed to stay in Vegas. Then, I went and married Mellie Dupree. That woman I’ve been chasing for two years is now my wife. She claims she doesn’t remember our wedding, but I was there, and I know she’s not telling the truth. Then again, neither am I.

This is such a sweet read. The heat was heating. Uncle Finn was the best. The inner thoughts/self-talk at the beginning with Melanie. I loved Ethan as a main but as this side character is perfection.

I'm not gonna lie. I almost tossed this book in the DNF pile after page 25. The hero Adam and the heroine Melanie got married after a whirlwind night in Vegas. But things didn't go as Adam thought they would. Nope. She was mia the next day. And it got even crazier. His "wife" was a complete PITA!! She was a whiner, a liar and in complete denial about their marriage. I was ready to give up when my book buddies told me to stick with it cause it gets better. And I admit I walked away for 2 hours. But I went back and continued. Then it was like Christmas in July!! This book took on a while new life! Suddenly I'm reading about the link between Adam, Ethan and Elizabeth. Let me tell you how I couldn't put this book down!! And then Melanie's history started to show me why she was the way that she was towards Adam. This book just kept getting better and better. And this book had plenty of explosive moments!! I mean jaw-dropping stunned moments. I'm so glad my book buddies made me stick with it cause I would have missed out on a great story. Yes, in the beginning I wanted to slap the begeezus out of Melanie. But sometimes you have to get past the surface to get down to the bare bones of why a person feels a certain way. The drama from Melanie's family as well as Adam's family was epic!! I LOVE Uncle Finn! He's a hoot!
Evelyn Sola really got me in my feelings with book 2. But in the end it was worth it. It really was. I would've given this book 4 ⭐'s, but Melanie grew on me and the book was fantastic overall. So I definitely recommend this book. It may be challenging at first. But stick with it. It does get much better.

Mellie was a LOT. I understand the pain, but the flat out lying and unnecessary violence was a bit much - and this is from someone who reads books with darker themes. Adam was infinitely patient. He needs some anger therapy too, but he’s a good one. Good laughs. I love the connected stories. The emotions were felt. On to the next one!

Not sure how, but I managed to read the Take Series completely out of order and read Takedown last. Adam and Mellie might be my favorite couple out of the series. This one is set in Boston which is pretty cool because the others are set in New York. They meet shortly after Adam moves into his apartment and hears Mellie’s voice while carrying furniture upstairs. 2 years later they’re in a marriage of convenience that’s supposed to be over after a year but they are enjoying the umm…pleasures of marriage too much. Doesn’t hurt that Adam inherits a boat load of money and only wants to spend it and all his time & love on Mellie. A definite must read!

Great story that kept me coming back for more and had me reading into the wee hours. I loved Adam and his loyalty and devotion to his main woman. The scenes were spicy and the dialogue was spot on. Even though I read the 1st book in the Take series, I have to go back and read about Ethan and Tara again so I can move on to book 3. Love this author…she never disappoints.

I enjoyed seeing the story unfold and manifest with Mellie and Adam, eventually. Understanding the background of the H/h gives you some patience and understanding, but they both needed therapy long before each otherwhich resulted in some very emotionally immature adults... boardering on toxic in how they dealt with each other. However, you understand their background, A LOT of dysfunctional parental relationships dynamics on both sides, you see how this could be. So be warned if that stuff triggers you...I was triggered quite a bit with Mel's family dynamics. Her mother was brutally cruel, narcissistic and used all kinds of triangulation and manipulation with Mel and her brother. Adam had his fair share of daddy & abandonment issues too. The begging that went on with Adams siblings seemed a bit extra for who we know them to be in the last book too. Their "love stoey" seems a bit unbelievable. I don't believe that any man, let alone a millionaire, would be dealing with Mel's dramatics, lies, family drama and constant hoops to keep her. Mel was hella annoying honestly. Although, I usually want them to win and I definitely wanted these H/h to win it was kinda unrealistic. I did enjoy seeing the dynamics and realistic play out of Mel and her moms relationship, esp as therapy got some play because their whole family needed it...Lord😲. Realistic storyline in many ways, because these type of dysfunctional dynamics are real life...does it end this way with the level of trauma on both sides that is often not addressed well or consistently with therapy for healthy relationship...I don't think so relistically. Its usually a disaster honestly. But I appreciate Evelyn trying to address how it may affect men and women in romantic relationships and love.

Sometimes family are good for you. Sometimes family are bad for you and to you. Sometimes family will go that extra mile for good and or bad. You have to decide when you have had enough.

Adam has know Mellie was it for him from the first time he hears her voice. Mellie felt the fire between them but was not willing to take that leap. What if this was a mistake. What if Adam tha ought she was not enough. Adams was determined and stubborn in his own right. He had family issues just as Mellie did. The find that together they can stand and make it to the other side.

This was about family in more than one way. I loved it from the beginning when Mellie was in a false denial. All the way to the end when new family old family and friends all come together to be more than family.

This is officially one of my favourite books ever! I loved literally everything about it, the banter, the scenes, the humour, the tropes. The characters were flawed and amazing and that’s what made this book so special, I swear I couldn’t put it down!

Take down was amazing! Evelyn has done it again! Mellie is a tough cookie and I have to admit I hated a little at the beginning. But she won my heart once again. Adam steals your heart since the very first minute. I love their back and forth; I love the little details that make the characters unique; I love the connections with characters from the other stories from Evelyn. A five star read that'll make you swoon.

I really enjoyed this story. It is heartwarming and seriously entertaining. Adam is yummy, caring and goes after what he wants, even if it means going to Vegas for a friend's wedding and waking up married to the woman he has been after for two years. Adam will melt your heart along with your panties. He is possessiveness and determination is rooted at his core.
Melanie had a lot of insecurities, but it was not overbearing and stemmed from her mother, who got on my last nerves.

There is humour, family drama and great sex scenes. Yes, someone has an inner slut.😁

Evelyn, did not disappoint. The story's pace, the storyline and how things unfolded between the characters (not just Mellie and Adam) are excellent.

What an incredible story of Adam and Mel with both their developing love and trust in each other plus their relationship with their individual families. Adam and his father issues and Mel with her mother issues. One of the best stories of family dynamics and dysfunctions I’ve read.

Melanie is loyal, feisty, stubborn. She loves with her whole heart. And what better man to love her than Adam Flynn? The man who knew who she was the instant he ‘saw’ her. I think he’s pretty much perfect.

I loved Adam and Mellie's story from start to finish. Adam was everything in the book and Mellie's was annoying at first but I started to love her further on in the story especially when she explained why her and her mum was estranged.

Loved Uncle Finn he made me laugh out loud a good few times, Molly was a treasure. All the characters gave everything in this book. Brilliantly written story with very funny and very emotional scenes.
