Teaching Trust: Forever in Middlebury Book 2 Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 233 ratings

Sebastian ~

I screwed up and ruined a perfectly good relationship with my ex, Anthony. But my epic screw-up helped him find the happiness he deserved, and that left me truly alone. So my life became the gym I own, and doing the drive-of-shame home after my countless hook-ups. I cut out trying to have any type of relationship, because my heart just wasn’t in it. That is until Tyler walks into my gym, and I can’t get those sad, brown eyes out of my mind. Little do I know, the man who shot me down twice is going to become my best friend.

Tyler ~

Middlebury was supposed to be a fresh start for me. A place where I could begin a new life, a life away from… him. It was to be my breath of fresh air. But it’s hard to breathe when I’m constantly looking over my shoulder. When my personal trainer leaves town for family issues, Sebastian, the man who tried to buy me a drink twice, is the one I’m stuck with training me. Soon, he becomes a whole lot more, but as much as I want to, I’m scared to let my guard down... and let him in.

Sebastian and Tyler each have their own internal battles. But when an unlikely friendship forms out of one personal training session, it’s a different kind of battle they’re forced to face. Instead of hiding their own secrets and lies, they have to decide whether to trust each other and let their friendship blossom into something more. Can they learn to trust each other enough to stop fighting the attraction? Or will their own trust issues stand in the way?

Trigger Warning: While this book is intended for adults—with adult situations—one of the main character’s backstory includes an abusive relationship.

Sebastian doesn't do relationships. He tried it with his ex Anthony but then he screwed that up. His past still haunts him and because of that he is a book ups only type of guy. He has friends but none he hangs out with much, and only a couple people know why he is the way he is. Then he meets Tyler and finds himself wanting to get to know this new, sad guy who walked into his gym.
Tyler is running and hiding from his past. His ex was abusive and Tyler came to Middlebury for sanctuary. He opened his own paint school for children and is starting to rebuild a life. Little by little he is putting himself out into the world, like going to a gym and meeting Sebastian... And starting a friendship with this sexy stranger.
As their friendship grows, will they fight the attraction they hold for one another or will they embrace the chance at a new beginning together?

Teaching Trust is a well written, engrossing tale of two men fighting the anxieties of their pasta and learning to trust in a future. The characters are relatable and likeable, even though mistakes were made in the past, they are showing growth and make you root for them to find their happily ever after. I definitely recommend this book.
I received an Advanced Readers Copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

One man keeps his heart locked away by having a revolving door of men, another keeps his heart locked away by avoiding any kind of romantic connection at all. Both of them need something more, something deeper, but only if they can allow trust to unlock those doors.

We meet Sebastian in Teaching Tenderness as the cheating ex. Now, that's not exactly a way to endear him to us, but we're sure there's a reason. It takes a long time to get that reason and all along the way, outside of his care and concern and gentleness with Tyler, we have to wade through his many descriptions of sex with other men as well as his affirmations that he just couldn't help himself. Can't say I was a fan of that. What did open my heart to him was when he finally broke through his emotional barriers to be truly honest with his motivations and his past. Only then did I truly start liking him. Before that point I was tolerating him and hoping he'd redeem himself. Underpinning all of that turmoil was the way he took care of Tyler. There was a good man hiding underneath his abrading arrogance and philandering.

Tyler is the art teacher that helps little Jackson to bring about a completely adorable moment in Teaching Tenderness. There's a wariness as well as a weariness surrounding Tyler that's quickly heading to a breaking point. Only when Sebastian pushes many of Tyler's buttons, both good and bad, does he realize that his current way of living is unsustainable. I thought his reactions to Sebastian were honest despite them also being frustrating. It kind of took a long time for him to be truly honest with himself. Aside from that I thought he was cute and a good balance to Sebastian's brashness.

Their evolution together took quite a while to get to a point where I actually believed they'd make it together. By the end I was a full believer. Sebastian found his humility and an inner peace with his past that let him completely accept happiness. Tyler found his inner strength and self-confidence strong enough to eradicate his demons and believe in a future full of possibilities. They were a good match and a great continuation for the series.

Trust, forgiveness, friendship and love are some key themes of this awesome story. Both MC's have experienced loss and loneliness and run from their past in different ways. These men find friendship in a very unexpected way and together they start to heal and their walls start to crumble. I love the slow burn of this story, how honest the growth was and how much heart both men had. The had to learn to trust themselves and each other and only then could they find love. This story is well written and is just beautiful love story!

Sebastian and Tyler are really awesome together, i liked how they were strong for each other and how much care the took of the other. As a reader of book one, Teaching Tenderness, i had been introduced to Sebastian and i am so amazed at how easily the author painted him with a fuller picture and made him a really understandable character. Sebastian really got his redemption in this story.

i am so looking forward to reading the next in this series, Teaching Truthfulness, about Marshall and Peyton's story!

I wasn't sure about this book because of him in the last book, but having seen what was going on with him I must admit he is adorable. Really good story.

This was Sebastian's story and based on how he was featured in book 1 - I was surprised that I enjoyed his story. It was an easy read and both Sebastian and Tyler complimented each other and was just what each needed.

In book 1 (Teaching Tenderness) we were introduced to Sebastian. He was an arrogant playboy that cheated on his devoted boyfriend and seeemed to hold no true regrets over doing it until Anthony found someone new. In Teaching Trust, we finding the reasoning Sebastian had for sabotaging his relationship and not getting close to anyone. He goes from a highly unlikeable character to a man you want to give big hug to and never let go.
Tyler comes into Middlebury as he runs from an abusive relationship. He’s a quiet man who doesn’t go out much in fear his ex will find him. His art classes with the local children and his assistant are the only ones he really interacts with until he decides to try the local gym. Here he meets Sebastian and a reluctant friendship begins.
I loved watching how the two men navigate from strangers to a slow but well formed friendship and finally into a relationship full of honesty and true love. They fight their ghosts and demons together and capture your heart. I’m loving this series and can’t wait for book 3!
