The mutual love and respect between two young men and their stepmother is the beacon of hope for the dysfunctional family at the centre of this story. Jago has masterfully created a loveable and realistic pair of heroes and very effectively positions the reader as a member of 'Team Holly' as the story begins to unfold.
This book serves to remind us that neither families nor individuals are perfect, and that those fractures that are often easier to overlook at other times of the year often come into acute focus at Christmas.
Its dark themes add depth and gravity to this powerful story, beautifully crafted with wonderful writing that draws the reader into the family home and holds them there, a silent witness of awkward, painful and tender moments alike.

Author Jane Kato has a distinct style of writing. It takes talent to draw the reader into a short story, but Jane does a great job of it. I look forward to reading more of her stories.

I love the single line descriptions on Jane Jago's short stories and this one tells us exactly what we're in for: a tale of obsession.
Well written, creepy, and ultimately cathartic. Another great example of Jago's wordsmithery.

A brilliantly dark twist on a tale set at Christmas and it's a great year-round read. By the end, I too was Team Holly. Jane Jago is firmly on my list of one-click authors and Team Holly delivers great storytelling, once more. I don't want to say too much (at the risk of spoilers, which I avoid in reviews) but there's a magnificent plot twist. If you like your Christmas "sugar-free", this is the perfect short story for you.

A story of obsession is true. What an amazing short read. This was my first foray into Jane's mind in this sense, and I was a little excited to get into it and see what spin she could put on a xmas tale. Brilliant read.

The short itself really hooks you in from the start. The prose and dialogue are concise and bounce off the page, without the need for tags, extra descriptor. It was very easy to follow, creepy as heck because if you don't identify with any of this at Xmas then something is wrong. We all see this in our own families. Where we can push thoughts aside all year, it's when cramped and supposed to be celebrating we see the cracks. I'm now a fan, who will be buying more books from her.

Thank you for the great read.
