Tequila & Tea Bags - A Small Town Enemies to Lovers Romantic Comedy Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 3,669 ratings

Shots of tequila in Mexico is the dream...Sipping tea in the Yorkshire countryside is my reality...

I got kicked out by my parents. Sent to live in the remote Yorkshire countryside with my cousin Elsie. I only have only one thing on my mind; joining my friend as a club rep in Mexico.

When I hear about a council incentive offering the promise of free flights to the person who clocks the most volunteering hours at the local care home, I've got my plan set.

There's only one thing in my way - Moody care home manager Will.

I also didn't bargain on bonding with the old ladies, going after the village bad boy and trying to persuade Elsie not to become a Nun.

Soon I'm questioning who my real friends are and whether my old life is one I want to return to.

Can the village win me over and will I win the chance to leave it behind? Will I even want to?

Crazy stunts, nights spent in random beds, and other crazy antics litter Rose’s life. Her parents have had enough and send Rose away for a while. ‘Banished’ if you will to a house in the country with a long lost cousin. The one thought that drives Rose is finding a way to head off to sunny Mexico to join her friend as a employee at a club. Which is every young gals dream….or maybe not!!!

Rose finds life a bit stifling living with her cousin Elsie. After all - who wants to devote their life to becoming a nun?? Rose quickly finds herself plotting a way to high tale it to Mexico, and the lengths she goes to are hilarious. After landing a part time gig at a local bar, Rose finds herself milking a contest at the local nursing home. The antics that ensue are absolutely hilarious!! Desperation calls for drastic measures.

As Rose begins to reap the most hours at the nursing home, she begins to develop relationships with some of the residents. Something that is surprising to herself, Will, and Elsie. Along the way, Rose begins to form new friendships, have a love affair, and continue to put her unique twist on making a mockery of life. Oh - when will the humiliation end? What Rose doesn’t realize is that during her quest to escape the confines of life in the country, other residents start to discover what a beautiful soul Rose possesses. Even if it comes with some unbelievable antics that leave everyone shaking their head!!

Oh my word….I must confess this is the first book I have read by Laura Barnard, but will certainly not be the last!! I discovered Tequila & Tea Bags on a whim. Amazon kept throwing it up as a Recommended Read when I shopped. So - the curiosity got me. After all - the title is certainly an attention grabber!!

What I discovered was a superbly HILARIOUS read that left me literally laughing out loud. There is no way to avoiding those LOL moments when Rose sets her sights on that trip to Mexico!! The insane antics are so far fetched at times you will shake your head and turn that page quicker than you imagined. A welcome relief when I had be lacking for a book that just made me feel ‘something’. Well - I got my wish when I opened Tequila & Tea Bags!! This is one hilarious book that you don’t want to miss out on reading!!

I have mixed feelings about this book. It has a lot of humor in it and the main character reminds me of someone I know. She is a total mess. Many of her antics are cringe worthy. Although, I think the main character manages to actually morph into a better person. There are a few things that will make your eyes leak. If you are a stickler about foul language, you are not going to like this book. I liked it anyway - probably because I know people who talk like this.
If you have an issue with consenting adults having sex, then this book might not be the one for you.
However, if you are an adult and realize that people do have sex and do use colorful language, then you might enjoy it.
One other caveat, the author often makes grammatical errors, typos, and other issues like incorrect word usage. She needs a better editor or proofreader.

Yes, this book is crass and crude but so are many young women. The author has written in the popular vernacular. The story is funny and I enjoyed the growth of the character. The writing needs a good clean-up. I was annoyed by all the plurals that Ms. Barnard made possessive. There were words missing and references made to the wrong character. Are proper nouns (especially commercial names) not capitalized in the UK?

Review Everything about this book started off on the right track from the first page. If an author can get me to laugh, cry, or be angry in the first chapter you've won my attention! There was so much to love about this book from the characters, dialogue, and the British accents always are funny to read to me lol! I couldn't stop laughing, and when it got serious I couldn't stop reading! I think that Betty's character is my favorite she reminds me of my Granny!

What starts as a punishment changes the life of twenty something Rose. The product of two doctors she parties incessantly with no real direction. Having been confronted by her parents and shipped off to a cousin's house in the country Rose schemes her way to a paid trip to Mexico to join her bestie. Or at least that's how everything starts.
Written in first person, derisively so, we join Rose on a disaster laden part of her life where she begins to care for others. From her cousins Elsie, the wanna be nun, to her charges in an elderly care facility to a horse! Her self serving antics turn around to bite her in the rear when she finds she wants to truly be a member of her new community. There are laughs and self realizations and lots of learning along the way. Have fun because I sure did reading this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious is the perfect description for this story. Sweet and hilarious.

What can I say? Rose, the main character, is hilarious. I download free books all the time, but never bother writing reviews, but I had to for this one because I really do not want anyone to miss out on a wonderfully sweet, endearing and hilarious story. The entire book is from Rose's point of view and Rose is hilarious so the entire book is hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud frequently and rereading parts again because no matter how many times you went over the words, they were still funny.

Rose is a brat at the start of the book. Her life revolves around going out, drinking and sleeping around. Then, her parents exile her to the countryside to live with her cousin who is determined to become a nun and Rose gets a chance to really shine as a wonderful human being. The poor girl is horrified to find herself in the countryside and finds it difficult to adjust to her exiled life. This results in Rose falling into one hilarious scrape and barely managing to get out of it only to fall into another.

This is a wonderful book. 100% hilarious from pretty much the start to the end. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good read. You will not only get a story that is endearing and warm, but you will also get a chance to laugh till you cry.

4.0 out of 5 stars A proper 'grower' of a book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 30, 2017
Surprisingly enjoyable. This is a hard book to review, as it is so unusual. I hate to admit it, but I almost stopped reading it. The main Rose character is so unlikable in the first few chapters, and not in a funny way. However, she quickly grows into a much nicer person, and by halfway through you just want it to all work out well for her. There are lots of other fantastic characters, and lots of funny 'why the hell did she do that?' moments. Lots of emotion in this book and it hits you right in the face with it. Once you start to like Rose, you will really enjoy it.
