About the author

When Steve Higgs wrote his debut novel, Paranormal Nonsense, he was a captain in the British Army. He would like to pretend that he had one of those careers that must be blacked out and generally denied by the government, and that he has to change his name and move constantly because he is still on the watch list in several countries. In truth, though, he started out as a mechanic - not like Jason Statham in the film by that name, sneaking around as a hitman, but more like one of those sleazy guys who charges a fortune and keeps your car for a week even though the only thing you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, he was largely disinterested in all subjects except creative writing, for which he won his first prize at the age of ten. However, calling it the first prize he won suggests that there were other prizes, which is not the case. Awards may yet come, but in the meantime, he enjoys writing mystery and thriller novels and claims to have more than a hundred books forming a restless queue in his mind because they are desperate to be written.
Now retired from the military, he lives in southeast England with a duo of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, he doubts he'll ever leave, the beer is just too good.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2024A big mistake that detracts from the story...
The author is British but the story is set in America. The author really needs to hire an American to edit the story. We call them parking lots, not car parks. And other things like that.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2021Steve Higgs writes some of the best stories I've ever read. His characters are real people in troubling times who fight to do what's right. He has a crisp, clean, fast-paced writing style that gets to the heart of the matter without wasting time. His characters are humans with flaws but a bone deep sense of what's right. There's plenty of drivel in the digital world, but anything by Steve Higgs is far from that. Read and enjoy entering a new world fraught with danger but bright with hope and humor.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2021This is by far my favorite series by Steve Higgs. Nonlinear and interconnected with protagonists these stories are great. I'm somewhat patiently waiting for them all to be tied together. Another solid entry in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2024You'd think the trio of Black protagonists were intentionally left as dimensionless, raceless high school girls, so little did author address this feature -- and what an epic miss to not even reference the joyful cultural phenomenon known as Black girl magic. But the worst of it is the Magical Negro crone figure which, of course, as a culturally clueless trope, was inevitably sacrificed to the plot. There's even a lit-crit term for this type of racism in fiction, and the author or at least his agent, editor and publisher should have known better. You may disagree with how much this should matter to an overall inventive series, but for me it was a deal killer.

5.0 out of 5 stars great read.
Another stay up late book, as was the previous ones. I’m glad I’ve started this series so I can read them one after the other. So immersive and routing for the good guys keeps me hooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spannend bis zur letzten Zeile
Leider ist die deutsche Übersetzung noch nicht vorhanden, so dass man das Buch in Englisch lesen muss. Aber es lohnt sich. Es ist so spannend, dass man vergisst, ins Bett zu gehen

5.0 out of 5 stars Suddenly...It Was Over
This is a good addition to TRFG, but what I, as a mother want to know now is what happened in those weeks after the battle of Chippewa Falls. Did their parents accept who and what their daughters turned out to be? Did they get kidnapped by the SIA? Did they run away? It is so frustrating to be reading series as they are being written because one always has to wait!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant read
Steve Higgs does it again. This book drew me in from the beginning. I started reading it last week and, because of Christmas and other distractions, didn't finish it until early hours this morning. Didn't want it put it down, but had to. Those girls are awesome, I was speed reading and when I reached the end, well it wasn't the end... the adventure will continue in a future book. Can't wait to see what happens.
Love this series.
